The Carlinkit 2 works perfectly in my 2018 navigator. Auto dim works, sound is great, no freezing up, etc. Not sure why you had so many issues but I have not. Highly recommended.
Yeah so does my Ford. He clearly has something that is not supported. I had the Calinkit for 3 years and just recently gave it to a relative and bought the newest one with usb-c and some updated hardware.
Yep, mine is good in my 2013 Amarok with aftermarket android head unit and my Samsung S20 Ultra. I have seen that more problems seem to happen with Apple, but, in this case, I think it's user error.
Manufacturers charge premium for wireless CarPlay. If Apple offers an adapter, it would immediately chew into their profits and could open Apple for yet more nasty lawsuits.
@@MrSLonoed they certainly will in a year or two when they remove the lighting port. that or they will need to allow bluetooth as the sole connectivity source instead of wifi wireless CarPlay. but I firmly believe they will release a dongle for CarPlay the day they release the portless iPhone.
@@Brian-jv8iy those cheap ass cars already have Bluetooth. Wireless CarPlay uses Bluetooth, so there really isn’t anything extra they have to do to enable wireless CarPlay
Bought the product a few days ago, I have used it for a couple of trips (+- 20min trips). I have NO issues with sound, touch, screendimming or any lagg. I use spotify for music and waze as gps. All running on IOS 14, I drive a Skoda from 2019. So I think this product depends heavly on the car you are driving. Also startup times are 15-30 seconds.
This is my experience too. Works fine, no freezing, sound is fine, screen dims fine, and touch works fine. It does take about 30 seconds to connect, but since it takes way longer for my kids to buckle their seatbelt it seems fine. Honestly, 30 seconds is absolutely worth it for me. I usually hid my cord in the armrest, so by the time I get it out, connect the phone, and settle the phone in - well, that 30 seconds is a couple seconds difference, tops. I think it’s terrific.
I am using a white CarlinKit 2.0 for the last few weeks in my 2017 VW Golf and I am happy with it. It does connect a bit slower than the wired option but it has wired pass-through so I can connect with a cable when I choose to. The wireless option works great on short trips, even with music and navigation and for longer trips, it makes sense to connect with a wire.
Thank you for the honest review, too many paid reviews with heavily biases. I thought maybe the 2.0 would be the one to get, but doesn’t look like that’s the case.
After having 2 wireless native CarPlay units from Alpine and Pioneer, while your descriptions on both of your wireless CarPlay adaptors are informative, what you are describing (latency, muffled sound, unresponsive ness) are just general wireless CarPlay “features”
I have CarlinKit 2.0 on my lexus nx for 6months now and its worked flawless every time. It connects in less than a min and no delay, no voice issues, no freezing. screen dimming is fine. I think all you mentioned is related to the car infotainment system.
I tried this on multiple cars with the same issues. One was a Hyundai OEM dash and the other was a third party. Both had these issues so I can confirm it’s not infotainment related.
@@VittorTech if you are using cable. You are fine. If you are using wireless and Bluetooth. You will have problems but not as big headache. Honda Civic 10 gen has worst head units on earth.
I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and just bought this device - it is working fine for me so I will keep looking out for any issues - but so far so GOOD for the CarLinkit 2.0 with an Audi SQ5 2018.
Wireless carplay use wifi hotspot to communicate with the iphone. I think all these issues are common with all the devices providing wireless carplay even if they are OEM. It’s something like the wifi hotspot doesn’t have enough bandwidth that is required for the head units to communicate with the iphone. I have an aftermarket radio unit with wireless carplay. Though it connects really fast and works okay if I am using navigation or listening to music. but it badly lags and sometimes gets disconnected if i try to change some settings from the settings app.
I have 2 USB ports for my F150. One in the front under the dash and one in the middle under the arm rest/seat divider. When I use the one under the arm rest, it will not play carplay. It will play my mucis and play my device just not CarPlay. When I use the port infront of the gear shifter under the dash and I use the apple cable it plays CarPlay no problem. But when I use an after market wireless charging bracket to house my phone using the same port it does not play carplay, just plays my phone. Crazy how the cable changes that.
This may have been a Don't Buy in 2020 but here in the Future (Sep'21) I've got one and it's been working fine with my 2019 Mazda Mx-5 Infotainment system (v70.00.100 EU). Was flaky at first but after a firmware update (and possibly choosing CD Mode instead of DVD mode in settings) it has been stable all week.
The car is a 2019 Honda Insight. The phone is a SE2020. Auto-Dim works, as does the display's manual dimming. My system boots up in about 20 seconds, before I can get out of the garage and to the street. Slight latency and a few audio stutters, but otherwise OK.
This is good to know - while my original vehicles were listed as “compatible” I still had issues. I’m trying another unit next week on two new vehicles to see if they work. Hopefully I have the same experience as you!
This may be a firmware change since this video was released, however in my 2017 Audi A4, the Day/Night mode works great! (And of course the button selection issues aren't an issue given theres no touchscreen!)
Agree. I used Cplay in a 2018 RAM 1500 and it cost €150 back then which is definitely not particularly cheap. It froze constantly and there were no updates available. Then at some point, it would just not boot at all or if it finally did, a message “hardware error wifi” popped up, which to me indicated an actual fault in the device. Cplay2air support has been the most useless people to deal with ever. I used it for less than a week before it stopped turning on. Another drawback was that I couldn’t use my cars wifi. Not a big deal and also not really this particular adapter’s fault, but it’s free and available, so yeah... It did go into night mode automatically for me when I entered a tunnel. I don’t recall if there was a delay when playing a song, but I do remember using my steering wheel buttons to skip forward or rewind a song didn’t work anymore, it’d just go to the next or previous song.
I was able to get CarPlay auto connection with my Carlinkit wireless by 1) upgrading to iOS 14.3 2) Setting AutoKit to automatically connect to Bluetooth (in Android settings) 3) have hotspot always on for AutoKit to connect to (in Android settings) . The menu has the secure wireless CarPlay demands. Can’t ask for more. - my iPhone 7 stays in my pocket. Have xTrons BMW E46 8.8” head unit with px6 - it delivers 100%.
What head unit exactly and which sw-version does your dongle run on? In my 2019 VW Golf GTI, MIB2.5 it runs fine for about five days and then starts to freak out with freezes and various connection issues. No matter what firmware I'm on, I even tried all of the custom ones by now.
Took 3 minutes to setup in my wife's 2021 Palisade. Connects quicker than what the factory load up screen does. Hasn't frozen, skipped, or missed a beat so far. Haven't noticed any difference in audio quality vs any other MP3 source. Only issue ever was when my wife handed our daughter her phone to play with... Obviously we all got here what she was doing! ;) I really think your title including "Don't Buy" is misleading, biased, and loosely based on your inabilities. P.s. Also gave it a quick test on my own Kenwood unit and worked a treat. (Unfortunately I have an S21 and waiting for Samsung to fix their Android Auto issues!)
Took less than one minute to setup the Carlinkit 2 even though carlinkit support said that its not guaranteed to work on my truck. The Ssangyong Musso 2020 Carplay is a bit hit and miss when just plugged straight into my phone often giving me just a black screen but so far using the carlinkit has been as good as wired in the Musso. I have not yet had the Black screen or problems connecting. also not experiencing any of the problems mentioned. voice calls are perfect and no delay noticeable.
I have used my Carlinkit 2.0 for about a year on my 2021 Forester and now my 2022 Outback. For me I have had no issues and it works very well. I think twice it did not auto connect and I just had to unplug and plug it in. So from my experience I love it! I wonder if some performance might vary based on vehicle manufacturer?
I just got mine today and installed it successfully in a 2019 Honda Accord Touring, with wired CarPlay. I haven't really had a chance to use it in my daily routine yet, so I can't comment on the freezing or lighting problem you mention. My biggest challenge was that the setup screen for the CarlinKit 2 was in Chinese, so I just kept trying combinations until I got it to work. Presumably, if you bought it on Amazon, it would default to an English menu. I'll try and report back after using it for awhile and let you know if my experience is different from yours.
I bought a bootleg carplay adapter very similar Carlinkit, same firmware, and used it on my 2018 honda civic. I had no issues at all. Doesn’t work on my 2019 subaru legacy but all those issues are apparent with wired carplay. I sometimes have that hi lighted issues with wired carplay.
I have an aftermarket wireless CarPlay Pioneer receiver in my car. It works really well. The only issue I’ve had is with wifi. I turn my wifi off when at work to preserve battery charge. If I get in my car and turn wifi on after I turn my car on it won’t connect. I was looking for a wireless adapter for my wife’s car since an after market wireless CarPlay receiver isn’t possible in a 2019 Toyota C-HR. Looks like I’ll be waiting for a while.
My CarliknKit 2.0 worked until it didn't. I had it working in 2 cars with an iPhone 6s Plus, then iPhone 11, then a 13 Pro. First I had a Pioneer head unit in a Corolla linking the 6s Plus and the 11. Then a 2021 RX350 with the Lexus installed CarPlay. After a few months it stopped connecting. I thought it might be the recent iOS 15 update. A week ago I emailed support asking for the file to update the CarliknKit firmware and have heard nothing.
My experience on Volvo 2019 is not great but it is not sooo bad too. - Sw crashes when mobile switch from 4G to Edge - Music plays on the phone instead of through Carplay connection on going - Does not at all connect to headunit when car starts, needs disconnecting and connecting again - sometimes does not connecting with mobile Some of these issues might be related to Volvo headunit because I was using the adaptor within a Mercedes headunit and it was working much better. Last night by disconnecting and reconnecting the adapter just died. :) Made in china
I can confirm the 2 second lag. I also work for a dealership and have been able to test the OEM wireless CarPlay on the 2021 Ford’s and the same lag exist. It’s a Bluetooth thing not just this device
I’ve installed two Kenwood DDX919WS head units, one into a Subaru BRZ the other into a Subaru XV. The wireless CarPlay works faultlessly, quick to pair, almost instantaneous, sound is crystal clear too. I’m just looking to get a wireless option in my Hyundai i30N. It has wireless charging but not wireless CarPlay unfortunately...
3:00 I don't know if you had a faulty unit or if your FW version was out of date, or more likely that corrections and updates have been made after your video, but in 2021 CarPlay2Air and CarlinKit 2.0 both dim and enter automatically in dark mode at night (dusk).
2019 Audi S3 (non-US version) and working beautifully. Connect is under 20 seconds. Almost zero lag. If I had to be picky, sometimes I might need to push a button twice instead of once. Otherwise pretty much flawless!
I have carlinkit 2.0 on 2020 hyundai sonata and works well. When it is a little glitchy then I just plug it out and then plug back in. Solved any problem with this method 100%.
Hi, I have a question - If my car doesn't support Apple Carplay, if I buy this dongle (or any other dongle that does this apple car play) will it work? Or the car needs to have it.
The problem with these adapters is that car manufacturers have no reason to be willing to cooperate with smartphone operating systems' carplay/android auto developers (Apple and Google), the manufacturer of the adapters. Auto industry might have made cynical/deliberate design choices to prevent these head units to work with wireless adapters. They are selling the same car with head unit with wireless capability for thousands of dollars of a premium.
I recently got one imported and it is working fine except for phone calls. Though call is received, outgoing voice is not transmitted. I can hear the voice of the speaker on the other side clearly though. Can't figure out what's wrong with the set up. All other features are working great except for connection drop once in a while :) Please suggest if there is any solution to this problem.. thx
I really wanted this to work but I also had it freezing up. It seemed to work for a while then the Carlinkit 2.0 would start getting fairly warm then could freeze up or the directions on Waze would start stuttering severely.
I have the same problems on my Pioneer Sph-da120. I use an Iphone 7. No update for Carlinkit 2.0 available. Darkmode doesn´t work and that´s very disturbing.
Doug Millar Unit worked fine but after ten minutes it dropped out and reset itself It did this four times in a twenty minute drive. Looks like back to wired connection for the iphone
I was on the fence about wireless car play. The model after mine has wireless built in. I own an Acura MDX 2020. But what I was trying to do was use my magsafe charger for the iPhone 12 into the USB port for CarPlay. I’m having issues finding a USB adapter that is compatible for CarPlay.
Does auto dark mode on the Hyundai work for you with wired carplay when you turn the car lights on/off or does it get the signal from the phone based on time of day?
Yep it works with wired CarPlay no problem. It’s based on a signal from the vehicle, not the phone. For some reason this dongle doesn’t pick up on that signal.
I have a kenwood 2017 model..I wanted to use the mirroring option for RU-vid..and do this wireless..but kenwood does not use android software..so can’t download the apk file to stereo..so I wanna use the 2.0 wireless...thank god I watched this video..NOW WHAT ?? can’t seem to figure out a work around??? Anyone know how to hack a kenwood double din stereo,a way to install the apk file ??
I spent months vehicle shopping for a 2021 vehicle and could not find a decent vehicle with Wireless Apple CarPlay. They all had like poor backup cams or weird things I didn't like. I had to settle with a wired Apple carplay vehicle.
At the moment I wouldn’t recommend any wireless adapters. Most of the are relatively the same internals with different branding on the outside. For my next upgrade I’m purchasing an after market with wireless CarPlay built in.
CPlay2air was great in my 2019 CRV but not at all in my 2021 Pilot. I so want wireless CarPlay. I run a lot of quick errands around town so I would love it. Honda has wireless CarPlay in the 2021 Accord EXL and above. Wired in the lowered trims. Hopefully will be added to the 2022 Pilot and CRV. I wish Apple would come out with a dongle.

biggest fail is to understand and read... this adapter was for CarPlay Systems!!!!! to make CarPlay to Wireless CarPlay! not other! the adapter doesnt add carpaly to your device! second the system must fast enough to dhandle the information of the adapter and the iphone! look some videos at youtube, its running fast and working really good.
After watching so many videos saying to not buy, i took a chance for myself and although it's only been a couple of weeks it's worked great with my iLX-W650 car stereo. I feel like the issues arise depending on the type of car stereo, the iphone model and. maybe the vehicle type?. I'm using an iphone 10, iLX-W650, in a 11 honda civic - No issues. Will see how it goes down the line
I think it does depend on the vehicle however I will note that at the time of making this video, both my OEM and third party systems were listed as compatible on their website. So if anyone is reading this proceed with caution.

I’ve never tried factory wireless CarPlay. I’ve only used adapters like CarPlay2Air and CarlinKit. I wonder if wireless CarPlay from the manufacturer is better.
It's incredibly glitchy. I've tried android auto and it's clicks on/off. Again I think it's not the dongle but depends on the phone model and stereo being used.
I have a 2015 silverado. It does have bluetooth for my phone and also pandora seems to work with it. It does not have car play. do you think this might work for me? I do have a touch screen.
Work for what? If you're trying to get Apple Carplay you will have to buy a new media unit, this product will not provide you with Apple Carplay...it is a wireless adapter for cars already equipped with wired Carplay.
Once I heard you used it for a peasant iPhone 10 I paused it, commented this, now I’m leaving. iPhone X had connectivity issues via Bluetooth which is probably where all your problems came from lol.

Sounds like the reasons you're giving are pretty petty in comparison to the alternative of not having anything at all. Really not trying to come off as a troll whatsoever, Just the way you are giving your reasons to not get one are coming off as a spoiled / entitled / first world problems child. lol And no, I don't have one and don't plan on getting one for myself.
