If anyone noticed, he pushed the lense protectors down with his thumbs and did not wipe them clean afterwards so yea, of course it will be blurry.. the protectors do downgrade but ever so slightly and no alcohol does not affect the oliophobic coating that comes from the factory that is on the glass to prevent finger prints.. it takes a LOT of wear and tear and time to wear it down.. also the protectors are not plastic, they are tempered glass.. unless you got a super cheap set off of eBay.
I was shocked that he didn’t realize that lol I agree on everything you said but I have tried alcohol on phones before and I don’t recommend it. It doesn’t take much alcohol to wear off the coating. You do you!
You say ‘slightly’ but I disagree - from personal experience. I’ve owned a 14 Pro since release date. And since day 1 I’ve had the same case, screen protector and camera protector on it. Anyway… I took the camera protector off yesterday as my videos of planes weren’t focusing properly and I couldn’t figure out why. Took the protector off and boom it fixed itself. Furthermore, I’ve never been able to get super close up macro photos because the camera would not focus properly (especially on Snapchat). But shock, it all works spot on now. I’ll never be using one again! Just need to make sure I remember I don’t have one on now though.
The camera glass on the iPhone isn't actually made entirely of sapphire. They are only coated with a thin layer of sapphire. I have seen a lot of IP that have been damaged at the camera lens very badly. Although I also do not use a lens protector. But users should be careful when using it because the camera lens on IP is also easy to scratch.
A few points: No, alcohol will not remove the "anti-scratch-layer (what ever that is)" from the glass. Apple and every other manufacturer uses oleophobic coatings to reduce fingerprints, but only on the screen. And to top it off, that again doesn't rub off with alcohol. You can use the pads without worries, no, you should absolutely use them because otherwise you'll have a much harder time cleaning the fingerprints. The reason why the camera protectors don't work is, that they don't stick to the glass. A normal iPad screen isn't laminated to the glass - if you go to the store, you'd notice that they have a much more washed out look than ipad pro or air. The same thing is happening here. You get an extra layer of air between the glass. If the protectors would fully adhere, there wouldn't be a problem. The way they are designed however will definitely impede on picture quality. Haven't seen an iphone lens cover that fully adheres yet. So until those appear on market, use a case that has a raised camera bump. Oh, and also: The sapphire apple uses for their lenses doesn't deserve it's name, it's really impure and scratches as easily as the screen.
My phone was dropped on an airplane, it hit the seat rail and the result was a broken lens. This was about a 24" drop, a slight bounce on the carpet and then impact with the metal rail. This was a very minor fall and it shattered the glass lens, so please don't believe that you don't need protection.
I think it’s been proven the lenses aren’t pure sapphire. Like the front ceramic sheild, it scratches at a level 6 with deeper grooves at a level 7… Real sapphire should make it to level 9.
Hi James, Yeah, I came to learn that later on from you guys. Thanks for the correction! I'll make sure to be more precise with my preparation next time : )
You make a great point. I was going to go with the square lens protector instead of the single lens protectors anyway. In case a phone case doesn't have the lens protector (like for me there's a cute phone case on Velvet Caviar I want but the camera lens is out) you can just buy the square lens individually.
I got one that protects the entire camera bump and is tempered glass n not plastic and is perfectly clear. No glare or anything and the pictures and videos are, to me, the same quality with and without the glass protector. To anyone wanting to protect their cameras, I would suggest going that route over the little circles over the lenses.
@@kirkitkakeeda is it any good? I’m looking for a back glass protector myself. My wife dropped her 13 from approximately 2-3 feet onto the tile floor (in the case) and it shattered the back
Funny thing is I didn’t even know there were little ones available I just the first time I saw a camera lens protector bought it and it was the whole full tempered glass piece, dropped my phone and it protected the cameras and was still usable for a month until I got a new one.
I’d say getting a 9H camera protector and installing it where the rear camera is would be worth doing instead of just facing a direct risk of damaging the camera lenses. A slim case will do good enough to handle and absorb the impact as if the thickness is the same height, there will also be a better chance of having the camera in great shape and condition. The lens protectors I am talking about are not on the lens, but attached all around where the camera is.
Very true. I have a high quality 9H protector. Plastic is useless - that’s he correct about. A 9H tempered protector is a different story. He’s also not considering that the lenses CAN get damaged in many situations, though unlikely. What’s more likely is that minor scratches will occur over time from items in pockets and bags if the lenses aren’t protected. I had horrible annoying line in my iPhone XS Max lens and had to take photos upside down in certain cases to avoid the line being visible (mostly). While lens durability has improved in newer models and surely aren’t like the good old original iPhones, they will still get minor abrasions over time - and I think having a 9H protector is the best of both worlds. A 9H protector can be removed if damaged or worn, while the phone lenses are fully covered and protected.
I’m always grateful to see someone’s video. As an amateur photographer with a new iPhone 14 pro I am interested in a lens protector. I noticed when you put the lens protector on your phone in the video you used your fingers to press the lens covers onto the lenses. You then did not wipe the lens protectors off thus leaving oil from your lenses. You did not wipe the oil off the lens protectors before taking the demonstration picture of the lens protectors clarity. Naturally the oil from your fingers would degrade the quality of the picture. Perhaps you should clean the lens protector caps before taking the demonstration picture to get a fair comparison of the lens with and without the lens protectors.
My lens cracked and broke when it fall and land on a small rock from waist height. I'd say get the protector. Better have it when u need it. It'll save you the expensive replacement
Same, I remember watching these videos and ended up not buying one. Few months later my iPhone 11 fell between the seats and the only thing that cracked was the camera lens. You could imagine how mad I was specially because I had the option of buying a protector but opted out. Anyways, that was 2 years ago, going to buy the new 14 pro max and will definitely be getting lens protectors.
My lens cracked and fell off and it’s 600 dollars to repair so I’m Just gonna use these until I decide to replace it. It works pretty good so far it’s much better than the clear tape I was using before.
That's really a bummer. Sorry to hear that. And those darn camera lenses are very expensive as well. That's where I find Apple comes up short. They do have great products, but those repair costs are just absurd. Hope you will get it fixed soon brother.
I'll gladly sacrifice a bit of photo quality in exchange for protected lenses -- I like to get the adhesive ones that cover each individual lens, like those seen in the video and they have not failed me yet. I know two people who have damaged and cracked their lenses and they did not have camera protectors on 'em.
I always like to put a camera lens protector on my iPhones. An apple employee was telling me that if “you have apple care you don’t need a case”. Look here you’re buying a $1,100 phone lol I’m putting on everything I can to protect it. Even with apple care I use the case the camera lens protectors and screen protector. Once they’re there they’re there.
Couldn’t agree more. The iPhones are too dang expensive (and easily breakable) to not invest in some $50/$60 phone case as well as screen/lens protection.
iPhones are sleek- so sleek ,they slide out of or across most everything. I just went to the 14Pro from my trusty 5S (9 years old- 3 batteries). The 5 had good InCases, no screen protector (kept original screen), and was rarely dropped- cases made it safer and easier to handle- always case on. I've gotten another layer of protection with the 14 with screen protector and lens protectors- they may be scratched at some point, then I'll change them out. He offers not proof that photo quality is lowered, except by his full plastic case.
@@ktkt1825 I’ve never had issue ever with camera lens Apple Store workers told me they do absolutely nothing to harm the phone I always put them on it’s a $900 phone
I got a big scratch on the black rim and it came off when I put the protector 😅 my cameras were fine the entire 2 years with no protector with the 12 pro max.
I had a purple 14 PM max and purple camera lens protectors on it. I haven't had any problems with photos.. And if the camera lands on the back during a fall, your camera is definitely damaged.
sometimes i feel like channels like these dont understand risk management. “the chances of it falling directly on the lens is very low” yeah but i can still happen. personally i dont like the way a case feels on my phones. i typically just put a screen protector on my phones and leave em and theyll be fine for years as long as i replace the protector when needed. the new lenses are made from sapphire (or have sapphire properties to prevent scratching) so thats not the issue. the issue is so the actual lenses themselves dont crack, and also to prevent the metal casing around the lenses from getting scratched (which happens all the time, mine are pretty rough).
That's actually a pretty good argument. I definitely think twice before I advise people to do (or not do) something. When it comes to these camera lens protectors, I weighed the pros and cons and found out that having a case is a better solution to protect lenses from scratching/cracking. With that being said, if you are someone who doesn't like putting a case around the iPhone (which I definitely understand), then you might consider using these lens protectors. Just pick one with good quality, and you're good to go. Thanks for watching and commenting bro.
Mine is different because mine doesn't cover each individual lens. I have a square lens that covers the lens all at once and doesn't stick over each individual lens. So removing it is less likely to do damage.
Am I the only one that noticed he used his bare hands to press the lens protector on there leaving behind oils from his skin then he wonders why there's a glare 🤔Ultimately I do agree with him and the plastics will get worse and worse over time. Use them don't use them it boils down to personal preference.
tbh these lense portector offer very small benefiits and more downside that it can benefit. its much better to use a better case where the lense part is potruded
I know on my $10 K Nikon lens I put usually a UV or skylight filter (similar to these if they are of good optic quality) Replacing a scratched filter is much cheaper than $2 to $3 K to fix your lens! Seems on a $1500 phone it could be a smart investment! As long as it is good quality!!
The lens cover makes sense especially by using no case , also if you get premium ones it does not BLURR AT ALL AND YOU TOUCKED THE FIRST one Lens firstly
I put my phone down screen up , so I got one that just covers the whole thing. Not going caseless yet but I’m protecting it for atleast 6 months completely
i can tell you from my own experience i always had a case on my phone then one sunday i was cleaning my iPhone when i had to go outside real quick to the car to get something.. well guess what happened when i got back out? you can have a case on for years and never drop it but as soon as you forget the case or dont put it on THATS when sht happens
They are not made of sapphire. They are made of a synthetic material that mimics sapphire. And it is pretty prone to cracking. Very very hard which eliminates scratches but if you drop it you risk cracking sapphire glass. Trust me. I am a watchmaker. That type of crystal crack all the time.
There is a test in RU-vid and it's ether not a sapphire or poor quality sapphire as on MOHS hardness scale sapphire is rated 9/10 which is practically impossible to scratch by metal. The test showed that iPhone camera lens glass is ~6/10 which proves that it's not a sapphire. Material having 6/10 MOHS scale can be scratch with metal or even glass. So lens glass can be damaged if you put it your pocket with your keys.
I personally do not use protector too but I’m using case with a drop mount attached for lenses camera like sandmarc and the was protected under those drop mount just in case of fall but the chance to hit direct was slim unless it’s a pointed object that poke straight the lense. If you really like to use one and not so worry bout glaring of lense then use a tampered glass type of protector and not plastic.
Thanks for sharing your approach! Using a case with a drop mount sounds like a smart way to protect your camera while keeping the lens clear. And great tip about the tempered glass protector - definitely a good option for those looking for extra protection without compromising photo quality.
What are you on about. Sapphire still scratches (not so easily but it still scratches, just like gorilla glass, Razer blade won't hurt it (marketing)but a basic book staple will tear it apart). Also you need to protect it from it's main impact issue, which is the lens edges, any slight tap on the edges will play hell with whatever is inside as well as with the very thin lenses themselves, the little metal ring won't protect them, that should have been molded as part of the shell.
1. Apple doesn't use pure sapphire. And it is not even close to being as strong as real sapphire. It's BASICALLY GLASS. IT'S LITERALLY NORMAL GLASS. 2. Even if it was pure sapphire, a fall on rocks or any hard surface would crack or damage it.
I only bought a complete square lens protector, because I am afraid that the camera will be damaged as in my iPhone XS Max that, due to humidity, I took the photos with black circular spots, I do not want the same thing to happen in my iPhone 14 Pro.
Not all sapphire is the same. The sapphire used on the iPhone camera lenses is not great quality like what you'd find on a watch crystal. I've seen several cracked iPhone cameras which were inside cases when they were dropped. There is also a ring around each of those 3 lenses in the pro models which is made of glass. I got a small chip on one of them in my 13 Pro Max and Apple refused to do anything for cosmetic damage. Thankfully my camera lenses are fine, but I'm not taking a chance anymore. The iPhone cameras are quite fragile and expensive to fix, especially the pro models so some form of camera protection is absolutely necessary.
Anyone else not so pleased with their iphone 15promax camera? Just curious because I do and I saw some people do too. I just removed my lens protector(the square one) and yes, I do realised a difference but yet to use it outside… so… just wondering
I bought a 20$ lens protector only cause I didn’t like the aesthetics of the camera lens sticking out considering I usually put my phone facing back side down I got the protector and instantly made my phone look better more solid instead of sticking out it looks flawless now
For me it’s safe to have camera protection on my iPhone, because before accidentally drop my iPhone and broke my lens of my iPhone camera,I noticed my co workmate drop his iPhone with lens protection and it make sense didn’t broke his camera
I just bought one just in case because the lenses are only part sapphire not 100% also I do see the pictures being not the best but most times my 13 ProMax auto fixes it
i honestly have camera protectors because i have an iphone that has a dark color, scratching the lens is not the main issue for me but scratching the metal rings that surround the cameras and revealing the raw steel underneath is what bothers me.
It really comes down to having good quality photos or protection on your lenses in the event you become unlucky like others. I haven’t been able to enjoy the amazing camera since I put on the case-mate lens protector. I began to theorize that the shitty videos and some photos were due to the protector. Every video I record has a “trying to focus” quality to them. Extremely frustrating. I get the glare in photos which then results in me having to wipe the lenses almost every time I take photos and have to retake them with wiped lenses. I fear breaking the lenses but also want to enjoy my iPhone 14 Pro. 😩
@@misskitty3448 I was venting to my niece about it and she began to complain too. Then I look at her new iphone and what do you think I see? A lens protector!! Coincidence? I think not!🤔
Use a case with drop mount like sandmarc it has protection as the lense sunk inside case and it’s a good quality case like pro case or their leather case. That’s one reason glaring you better just lean your lense and not having on top protection that might affect glaring and focus. I have a tampered glass in my screen protector but I did not install it because of this reasons but seems tampered glass is better than plastic for sure but still I don’t wanted to waste this expensive phone and it’s capability just because of this cheap lense and just be careful always as possible is the best protection you get give to your phone.
That brand of protectors is obviously not great… not all are created equal. Apple themselves in store install quality ones for customers as accessories according to many Apple techs & test & know they don’t effect quality… Not all are created equal, same as not all screen protectors are created equal
Can't agreed. If you drop the phone on an irregular floor can damage the lens. Have seen many iPhones with broken lens. Even tho it's cheap to repare lens my advice is wear lens protector. I always use. If you clean your lens properly before putting the protectors you don't have any problems. And if falls you break the protectors not the real lens.
Have the iphone 14 for a month only and on it’s first fall, the lens cracked already. So i would also recommend the lens protector 🤦🏽♀️ or a good phone cover
I had to get my iPhone 13 Pro Max exchange because one of my camera lenses broke. I did not drop my phone I keep a phone case on at all times. Yet it still cracked
So I have protective lens on my camera, I notice trying to take moon shots or night time shots when lamps or other light sources it’s turn it into a star access whole photo or blurs the moon, Would it work better without them on or any other fix to sort problem out ?????
If it is worth apple will sell the protector too just like phone case, but they didn’t sell it it means unnecessary bcz they have good quality of camera lens, i was using that protector too but now I removed bcz of quality of image
Hi Ainun, I'm sorry for the late response. I definitely think the same about it! Besides, having those lens protectors around your camera lenses just diminishes the aesthetic look of the iPhone. I hope you have a great day and if you have any questions, please let me know.
Hey man one quick question,I just got the iPhone 15 pro max and washed my camera lenses with a small towel and alcohol will that damage it for cleaning it like 5 or 6 times ,because you mentioned you don’t wash it with alcohol cause it removes the scratch resistant coating on the lenses
Apple advises against using alcohol-based products directly on the lenses for this reason. It's best to use a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with water or a lens cleaner specifically designed for coated glass to prevent damage.
The iPhone camera lenses ARE NOT sapphire. As shown in JerryRigEverything's durability tests, these lenses scratch at a Mohs hardness scale level 6, which is glass, whereas sapphire is a level 8. DO NOT rely on the "sapphire" to keep it safe. Even if it was, sapphire isn't some invincible material. Its still a gemstone, which may be scratch resistant, but it is still brittle. Apple does this really dumb thing where the lense itself is the most outward protruding component, meaning that the camera lense is the most likely thing to get damaged. In fact my own personal experience tells me that this is true, I have recieved multiple iPhone Pro models where the lense is cracked but nothing else. If you can find a good, high quality, temptered GLASS screen protector, not plastic, they are greatly beneficial while almost never interfering with camera quality. Also, for the sake of your very expensive phone use a good case.
Yup yup I see it ahaa how bout the front screen???? They only had. Screen protector thst covers the whole selfie cam I don’t see a difference but I’m paranoid do they make good screen protectors without covering camera?? Now I gotta return these back camera lenses ahaa I’m scared it’ll scrape idk but we’ll see
Very informative although sapphire glass isn't 'sapphire' or even glass but a transparent, crystalline, technical ceramic made of pure aluminium oxide Al₂O₃.
dear you speak by hypothesis and that's it. Yesterday my iphone 14 pro slipped off a table and ended up on the asphalt from a height of about 40cm. Do you know what happened on the phone? The first thing that hit the ground was the camera lens and the glass was irreparably chipped. Probably because Apple uses Chinese Sapphire... Which evidently is certainly not as hard as a diamond but certainly softer than asphalt. So if I had lens protection nothing would have happened! So please don't say stupid things. Sorry I forgot, to repair the damage Apple told me that I have to spend 500 dollars.
I’m sorry I disagree with you having this camera lens protectors saved my camera from a 2nd story drop in my apple case only thing damaged was my screen protector and camera protector
If a drop is bad enough to break the glass, that protector won’t do anything. It’s like putting a peace of paper in front of a wood board. Don’t degrade the quality of your images for the illusion of protection. If you’re worried get Apple care.
It scratches extremely rarely has a 9h rating and almost nothing can scratch it, however breaking from impact is at average but even then thats rare too they usually dont break
Have you considered wiping off the lens protectors before taking photos because you've actually just rubbed your fingers all over plastic, then tried to take photos and mentioning the expected glare. Yes, you will have glare and blow outs. Especially if you rub your naturally oily naked finger all over sapphire glass.
