Me, my brother and two of my sisters do RU-vid. We're lucky, though, because only one of us edits and then we get to watch the entire video together and both enjoy and review it before uploading.
Great video Morphologis, I've been rocking the first model for a couple years on a very simple single PC setup. Hyped for the updates coming on this model so I can switch to a dual PC setup soon.
Also, on the first version, theres an option called usb mix-minus, which stops the gameplay audio going out to discord. Not sure why they removed that, for now.
The Ethernet port is used in professional audio mixers for Audio Over Ethernet (typically Dante). It may be used for that, but don’t quote me since I’m not very familiar with the Rhode Mixer product or line.
Thanks for this video Morph. I would love to see more of your opinions/reviews of equipment used for streaming/gaming. I know there are other RU-vidrs who do this as well, but getting multiple viewpoints really helps when making a purchase decision.
enjoyed it Morph, nice contrast to noobs quick fire reviews on flight set ups in the day & perfect topic chosen. I have always absolutely loved your audio, you create exceptional presentations & can only imagine what a pleasure it must be to see you create said magic. A long time fan humbled by your approachable professionalism, cool demeanor & ever present positive attitude.
Hey, so issue on 13:50 can be solved if you press mute on the usb fader, they wont hear anything but you can still hear your usb line as long as the green button is also pressed. I believe they said they will fix it on the next update with the route tables in a few weeks.
As someone who plans to start streaming video games in the future (target November) I appreciate this content. I know enough to know that I don't know anything yet.
I know with modern Linux we have something called Pipewire, which is the new Core to connect different things together like separate audio- and video-channels. And you can very easily route them together and away how you like e.g. through software like Ardour (very nice, specially because its open-source and has a Linux native client) Not only that, you can also create virtual plugs on-the-go and send stuff over the network with a few clicks. I know dedicated Hardware can do this at native-quality, but "Software-Defined" stuff is getting more and more popular for a reason. Because its so versatile and now we have the resources so all this mixing doesnt need alot of resources at high-quality. So a setup like in your overview would pretty much look exactly like that without all the messy cables.
Thanks for this Morph, I am rubbing pennies together for a HQ PC after being a gaming laptop user for years, and I am looking to do things like Machinima and possibly streaming, perhaps podcasting, and as I am eyeballing gear for when the pile of pennies gets large enough I am appreciative of videos like this. Cheers Morph 🍻 🤜⚡🤛
This was a great review. I appreciate the negative and positive feedback. It gives a better perspective of the device. Thank you, and please do more like this one.
If all the problems are Software related, It's not that bad, Also, A good cheap option is Voicemeeter + a Midi controller, Sure you don't have a fancy touch lcd but It can do quite a few things this can do at a tiny fraction of the price, maybe 10% or less
This has been my solution for years. I love voicemeeter potato. Currently using a simple VST enabled DAW as an effects processor and my 20 year old Korg Mikrocontroller as the midi controller. Does everything I need.
Mate, fantastic video. The whole production looks and sounds fantastic. I’m a single pc streamer and I think I can get this working for what I need. The new routing function in the beta update should help with most streamers.
Nicely done, Morph. Very well balanced, and excellent points. I hope the maker will take the constructive criticism as intended and make the device even better.
Nice work Morph. I'm a YOOOOGE Rode fan. I use their chonky-boy Broadcaster mic all the time. I'm not 100% certain they're the right guys to go to for mixing, however. As I wrote in your longer post a week or so ago: I'd stick with the mixer pros when it comes to that aspect of production. I *do* agree that there's a vacuum in the mixer product lines for the Streamer/Gamer/Content Producer market. I'm not a big advocate for the one device that *has* filled that vacuum (leaving it nameless... they get touchy) and would love to see other companies like Mackie, et al, step in. Convincing them that there's a market worth serving is the tricky part.
I’m using a Rode shotgun mic just off camera. It’s above and in front of me, angled down towards my chin and chest area. I was taught this by someone in a professional production company that used a lot of shotgun mics for movies and commercials. It takes a lot Of adjustment still though with the processing the get the audio clean and the pickup range just right.
Morphologis, My unit’s metal top plate is also delaminating-near the QR Code. It’s getting worse over time. I’ve seen this issue reported numerous times and in various locations, including: Reddit, RU-vid videos; RU-vid comment sections. yYM
Ohhh look at you man, very beautiful work man, and showing yourself on camera really adds more focus factor in the watcher's brain, amazing B-roles dud, I known it's a rip off, but if you're planning on continuing on this beautiful style, remove the light source in the background it got me looking at ot for a good 10sec, check Piter mickinoun lighting tutorial, how to use most efficient lighting with simple light, heck you do it witha a light bulb, take easy man love the content .
You can solve this issue by using one of the probably many unused audio devices you have. Your monitor probably has, so does your motherboard. Mute those on the hardware side and use them as "virtual" audio devices. You can go into windows audio settings and set specific applications to send their audio to specific devices. This solves this entire issue. Not enough audio devices you can use something like voicemeter to make those devices. This way you can have your own headphone, game, discord and music mixes you can adjust individually without the need of any additional hardware.
That might work just fine... until a windows update hits. Because if the experience of Windows 10 is anything to go on, every time windows 10 updates, it resets all your carefully-created audio settings. Oh and some applications (like Uno) can do something similar, to a lesser extent. TL:DR, "Windows being windows will mess that up, you know...."
Also had the top plate lift plus early firmware usb issues so sent it back, I will wait to see if only a few have issue or it becomes a bit more of a problem. I may end up getting it again later in the year but I feel mk1 is better made. As the mk1 does work for internet radio and I wanted better pre amps for voice over work, it may be better to go for something else like Mixpre 3 or Zoom F8 just for voice over stuff.
Uhhm, maybe i'm dumb, but are the shows you mentioned early on not just different mixing setups ? i mean, as i understand this, you can make different "shows", right ? and isn't each show a different mixing setup ? i have to say though, i only saw your vid about the rodecaster pro 2, so i really don't know, just asking.. cheers and compliments for the, as always, great video
During this video I didn’t hear you mention the mix minus capability. I would hope this cabibility would address the issue of streamers hearing themselves
It didn’t work in my application, but it’s not important anymore as they’ve update the firmware to be able to route all inputs and outputs as you please.
This looks so close to perfect, but yeah, judge on existing product, not future promises. Would you be willing to give it a review in 6 months to a year from now to see if they kept to those promises tho and if it allows output mixes? (atleast, assuming there is anything to update on)
i would learn everything about streaming setups from this thirst trap gosh. legit tho, considered a basics on architecture? i would be greatly interested
I'll be honest I'm quite confused why anyone would want to buy hardware like this for streaming. I understand there are a lot of people streaming nowadays that don't fully understand how to utilize a computer but hardware like this really makes me scratch my head. Everything that piece of hardware does can be accomplished by scripts and freely available software... plus you can't even plug balanced headphones into that thing
luckily I don't need 50 different sources to 50 different places. Just a podcaster. honestly with having to manage all that audio, how do you have time to play the game? lol
The real way to pronounce it, I've been told, is actully VERY hard to pronounce. It's not just changing the o to a U sound, the r sound is also different. I'll stick with Rode :D
It only works for the USB Main out chat input and not on the second USB out, but that's a moot point as they've just released the beta firmware capable of routing audio on each output.
