DON'T BUY this WHEEL for this WHEEL BASE! Why? Watch this VIDEO! SIM RACING Moza R5 CS V2

After the two saga videos about the R9, the time has come to revive the R5 which was collecting dust. After a subscriber of the channel asked me how does the R5 handles the CS V2 wheel, and even though I own both of them, I have never tried them in this pair, so I didn't know what to answer and led me to this video. In this video i`ll test the CS V2 on the R5 and see how it performs in WRC 10, but this has a negative impact on the R5.

For everyone whingeing ... here's a Tldr; The R5 is great for the small (stock) 11" ES wheel and the 12" round / Formula mod rims. Once you move to 2.5 kg + rims, you are overworking the R5. ... You lose FFB, overheat and get a bunch of clipping. The only exception is with the truck wheel, ironically. Although it's 15" and weighs 3 kg, ETS2 and ATS has barely any FFB. The R5 is fine. You're welcome.

It’s not whining, man, but useful information so that people know what to buy or what to expect when buying such expensive gear. Not all people have pr should have knowledge in this field, or how much something weighs, just to enjoy a lap on the track. ‘Though thank you for the useful info. I appreciate it.

Feedback from my experience: for me never had overheating. I've GS V2P wheel and RS V2 (which is super heavy). R5 works wonders with GS V2P, I've played 4 hours with Assetto Corsa Competizione, FFB Max Torque at 85%, in game at 60% (GT cars have power steering, there's no need to have the wheel super heavy and hyper-frictioned). Measured the unit temperature with IR thermometer too in several areas, max temp was 34.5C, with ambient temp of 20-22C. With RS V2 the feedback is a little bit dampened due increased inertia and weight and longer sessions would probably lead to higher temperatures (I haven't tested it properly yet). R5 is more than capable in my opinion to handle both wheels, although probably R9 and upwards would probably deliver better performance in terms of feedback with the RS V2.
@JulianNDL

Yes, it’s all about FFB. As I said in other videos too, if FFB is set under 95%-90% they’ll never overheat. (I’m talking about the R9 too). From here on there’s an entire subject of discussion. If you want more power, more torque you should get a more powerful wheelbase, but maybe not everyone can afford one, and they’ll want all those 5nm , 8nm or 9nm they bought… And it’s not about GT3 have power steering, it’s all about user preferences… Not everything should be 1:1 with the real cars, even though a real GT3 car get up to 12-13nm torque.

I would be really curious to see what happens if you use the csv2 in Automobalista instead of thr Rally game. I suspect the overheating is happening more in rally use due to the extreme wheel rotation/drifting/force feedback fighting you a lot more
@JulianNDL
@JulianNDL 11 месяцев назад
Actually that's a big possibility. I will do another video in AMS2, with the CS V2, to see if I get the same result or not. Thank you for the suggestion.

For the rev bars. You need to have Pithouse open at all times. You also need your game telemetry to be confgured in Pithouse. That's specific to ea h game but only needs to be done once.
@JulianNDL
@JulianNDL Год назад
Yes, I mean as long as it works once, it should always work (of course once the telemtry is configured), but, at least in my case, that doesn't happen. In one of my old videos, in ACC, i started recording with the lights not working, Moza PIT house was open in background, and like after half an hour of gameplay all of a sudden they decided they should work. 😀 I mean, this is not a deal braker for me, somehow I find it funny, and mostly, I don't care about that, but I was curious if anyone else has the same odd experience with the rev bar as I do.
@wisllayvitrio
@wisllayvitrio Год назад
@JulianNDL Probably worth reaching out to Moza support for that. I had issues with my rev bars in the past, but that was mostly me forgetting to turn the wheelbase on before starting the game.
@JulianNDL
@JulianNDL Год назад
@wisllayvitrio I'll do it just to see what they say about it, but again, I don't care about that, hehe. If i turn on the wheelbase after i start the game, the game isn't recognizing it, so I have to retsart the game.

If you used the formula ES wheel on the rally game, as you did with the CS, the bease would also overheat.

Of course I have tried it and it doesn't overheat. The CS is just a huge and heavy thing which puts a lot of pressure on the electric motor.

Yes, that was a test rig. It looks worse than it was. During gameplay, you don't feel it that much.
@splatracer7726
@splatracer7726 Год назад
Yeah the GS is pretty heavy. I’m surprised the R5 felt OK with it. I am left wondering what your ambient room temps are throughout your tests. Do they remain constant ? My room is pretty small and can get pretty damn hot when I race. It’s just another piece of the puzzle for an enquiring mind………
@JulianNDL
@JulianNDL Год назад
The new room is not that small anymore. The old one was indeed tiny, and yes, it gets hotter, mostly from the heat that the PC is creating. But I don't think that is the problem, mostly because the facts i presented in the video are chronological, and it cooled down and stabilised with the ES formula wheel, when the room had the highest temperature, after many hours of gameplay. I honestly didn't expect it to happen. I thought it would be somehow the same case as with the R9, but it wasn't. Yes, regarding how the CS feels paired with the R5 i was impressed and I still am, because that thing is huge and heavy, i think it's the heaviest wheel I own, but the R5 is just that amazing. Like i also said in the video, even with limited FFB, it still felt amazing. The last gameplay footage, at the end of the video, is with limited FFB, but you can still see how great it reacts and how fast it turns back to the center.

I use Moza R5 with ES steering wheel in 100% FFB. I installed two 12 cm case fans from the right and left. FFB drop problem disappeared due to heating. 5.5 NM was quite enough. In the Radical option, after 2 hours of gaming, the room temperature gets warmer at 30C to base 46C. Base 41c at 25c room temperature. This is how I play with peace of mind.
@JulianNDL
@JulianNDL Год назад
It's funny enough that for me, it did not overheat with the ES formula wheel, even more it cooled down, even though room temperature was higher than it was when I had the CS on. FFB and torque in pithouse were at 100%, and ingame FFB was set to 96% in AMS2.

@Djaym0 I mounted them behind the wheel base on the monitor stand. It all depends on how your setup or sim rig is. I've posted some pictures on the community tab, here on the channel, that I've received from a subscriber and his simple solution for mounting a fan to the wheel base.

@JulianNDL
@JulianNDL Год назад
@Djaym0 It also depends on which coolers fo you have. I bought some really bad ones that created interference on my monitor, but they have a small stand, and with the help of that, I attached them to the monitor stand. I would recommend getting some Noctua USB fans because they're dead silent and easier to attach them to the wheelbase, unlike mine that sound like a jet engine. :))

How does the different wheel make it hotter ?
@JulianNDL
@JulianNDL Год назад
I really have no clue. Maybe the wheelbase boosts power a little bit to handle the wheight of the CS V2? I really don't know, but I would have expected that the R5 would feel weak paired with it, but it didn't at all. That is why I think it somehow boosts its torque. I may be completely wrong, though.
@Duomatic84
@Duomatic84 6 месяцев назад
Quite simple, the weight of the wheel does very little. What however makes a huge difference is how hard you are fighting it. With a bigger wheel you get alot more leverage against the motor. So the strain on the motor increase massively with you getting more leverage against it.

These are real life scenarios, man. You know, the temperature differs all over the world and these wheel bases are a global product and they should be developed to work in all these environments. And let's be real, these are not desert like temperatures. Further more, there's no where in the manual book of these wheel bases that you should have aircom in the room where you're using them. I don't think there is one single person in this world that turns the aircom on before turning on the TV, or the computer, or you name it!
