Don't Copy The Pros. DO THIS! (Serve Tips)
In this video I share my advice on what you should and shouldn’t copy when it comes to watching professioals play. I use Hannah Smith’s serve as an example. Hannah is currently 18 years old and hits her serve at around 110mph.
Enjoy!

She has a really good serve. One area of improvement I see is that she jumps almost straight up into the air vs a little into the court.

Absolutely incredible video instructions. I needed this today as I’m needing to go from pin point stance to platform and to incorporate the fundamentals on my serve. It’s held me back in all these futures tournaments as I double fault around 25 times a match…yup. That much. And I break most every ATP ranked pros serve and sometimes a few times per set! I just gotta figure out how to serve good enough to not let it be a massive liability anymore. Damn. Im on it. Off to the courts to follow your instructions. Thank you Ashley. A big bow of gratitude 🙏

I’m glad you found this one helpful. It sounds like this is a great opportunity for you as you’re already doing the hard bit by breaking their serve. Have you always hit too many DFs?
@PrecisionPointTennis
@PrecisionPointTennis 7 месяцев назад
@@TheTennisMentor yes, even when I played a seniors ITF tournament (I won it easily), I pretty much broke every serve in every match and double faulted at least 20 times per match. I ended up serving underhand and forehand serving. When I was a pro at 20 (38 years ago), I was fine. I totally forgot how to serve after not playing for decades. I used to copy Lendl my hero. I’ve made adjustments and can go a match now with about 10 DF and a few aces, so I’ve progressed a lot for me these months. I’m going to the courts now to practice one step only: the platform stance with no jumping yet. Also, I learned back in the day to always land on my right foot. Weird. I learned wrong when I was young and I played baseball for years and I can throw the ball like a bullet. So I just have to find a way to use my great throwing arm and action INTO a serve motion. Thanks for your concern and great advice

@@PrecisionPointTennis I think it’s a wise move to practice without using your legs for a while. It sounds like you have good potential if you can throw well, just need to sync all of your body parts (easier said than done!) Keep me updated!

Another great video Ash! Here are a few conversation points to maybe build on: 1. Does the stance / set up change depending on whether you’re serving from the deuce or ad court? 2. On contact, where do you think the eyes should be focused? On the ball or down the court 3. After contact, if the player is staying back, where do you recommend they land? I think it’d be great for coaches to see the drills and exercises you used to develop this serve from when she started. Keep up the great work 💪🏻🎾

Love this video I’ve always had a half decent serve but the racket drop is always something I’ve struggled with to take my serve to the next level. Gonna try and get more knee bend now to help with my racket drop.

Thank you very much for this video, very informative. She's got a great mouvement! It comes just in time since I'm struggling to improve my serve at the moment and work on it almost everydays. I think It's quite hard to get it when starting tennis a bit late but I don't give up. I'm working on the shoulder's level and the role of the right arm. I would be interested in a future video to some more advice about the initial movement of the right hand during the 'trophy position' ; I think mine tend to be too high and stiff. I'm working on it, my serve is getting far better but when making video it doesn't show much improvements. I might be wrong but I feel this is the key to get a better serve! Thanks again, Julien

I've only just become aware of your channel today and subscribed......got to say Hannah looks like she's studied a lot of slow mo's of Federer with her service technique.....which isn't a bad thing.

The best video so far. I like the iPad in view so you’ve got pointers and doesn’t look like the typical coach who just “wings it”. However, Sampras copied me. So maybe you’re wrong about copying the pros.

Thanks! Don’t tell anyone, but I was actually live streaming the latest touchtennis showdown on my iPad! Yes, that was one of the famous examples of when replicating the pros actually DID work… Sampras copied it perfectly and it came off!!

Good video. Hannah has a nice serve. There are some elements I think she could improve on. She is a little stiff on the ball toss. She could be more relaxed there and this might lead to slightly faster serves. Also her racket drop could be deeper. Again an indication that she is not as relaxed as she could be. These are minor points but it could add up to 5 mph more. Thanks for the video.

I can't be the only one but I played baseball for 18 years and find the throwing motion to be almost zero help with serving.
