You can also make keyholes in the wall of your hay storage. It cuts down the time and effort for you each time :) Plus hay that falls on the ground while they eat, stays in hay storage, and doesn't mix with dirt, poo, urine etc :)

Smart idea. You then could stack it up and it will constantly refill itself.

I think it's great how Grace helps you and how did you learn so much about goats. You and Art are great to watch and learn from!

I've heard some bad things about keyhole feeders. They are supposedly very dangerous as the goats head is stuck in there and they can not see if another goat comes upon them. Make sure you are sure you want to go with a keyhole feeder

Yall should look for free cable spools. The big wooden ones that are used for wrapping cable around. The goats would love those

It was good to see Grace helping and learning to milk! I was wondering if Art had done the milking at times. It's always good to switch up the chores so everyone knows how in case you are unable to do it, such as if you get sick.

D. Blocj grace receives the lessons on life skills that most kids don't know how to do these days...I do not PAY my kids either...unless they do something beyond thier everyday chores, because let's face it, not one of us adults get paid to take care of our home, we just do it. and kids should know that too
@Brifromscratch

She gets paid when does extra things. She will often ask for ways to make money and so we give them to her. She has to do a job every day to pay for her chicken's food.

We've found that goats will eat hay off the barn floor especially when it's raining or super cold . We try to keep the barn picked up now knowing that. I like the keyhole feeder! I'm thinking a four sided one would be awesome.

I chuckled when you said your barn was super dirty. I thought it looked fine but I give you an A+ for keeping it as clean as you do. As for the goat with the poopy butt I feel she just ate something that upset her tummy. They can also get the poops like that when they eat to much grain or something they aren't use to. If she had coccidiosis she would have super watery poop and there would probably be more then just her with the same symptoms. It is still a good idea to keep and eye on her though.

Good job, Grace, helping your Mom! You barn looks nice and clean! My concerned is where you dump the straw against the barn. I'm thinking of fire hazard here, perhaps dumping them away from the barn would be safe for the structure and animals. Just a thought. As for the playground for your goats, how about the see-saw that Agility dogs uses on their obstacle course. I bet they would have fun going up and down on it.
@sweetheartsmom

also keep an eye on the free section of craigs list for old eagles nest type playhouses; these kids would love that
@akindofmagick
@akindofmagick 7 лет назад
Better yet, fix up the tree house they already have!! Taking apart, moving and reassembling a used play structure is a big job (BTDT). Every child should have a treehouse, if there's a suitable tree handy, tho!! ;)

If your goat is still active but has diarrhea, its been getting too much feed. Fermented alfalfa helps.
