EDIT: I've been getting some questions so I'll answer them here. **Number 3 is SUPER IMPORTANT!!!** 1. What about announcement date? If SBR is aiming for an early 2026 release I forsee an announcement in 2025 (most likely first half of the year). In terms of an even later release date, I can totally see the show coming out later. That's why I keep saying "at the earliest" when I cite early 2025/2026. 2. What about the SBR trademark in 2022? Trademarks can be filed for multiple reasons including for the anime/merch/manga. Trademark != production has been going on since 2022 3. SBR was registered/trademarked in China (literally happened yesterday)? Again similar story to the 2022 trademark mentioned above. If you go to the aliyun website that "leakers" have been citing as the source, you can see that the trademark was filed (not approved) under "Category 41" which is media related services. However that includes many subcategories listed such as: events (think JoJoWorld), performances, books, games, live shows, and of course anime. This time it could maybe hint at production might be starting soon? However I personally find it unlikely that they would outsource the animation studio to a Chinese studio, but right now only time can tell. This could be a huge nothingburger tbh. I will keep this updated if any recurring questions pop up Original: I shared my findings. Now I am SUPER curious on everyone's thoughts on Steel Ball Run being pushed back and the release format (episodes, platform, etc)
Absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. Or vice versa, whatever. "Linkara, the great Linkara. What did he say about the Power Rangers video? It'll be out when it's out. And we love that. It'll be out when it's out."
Man I really hope JoJo doesn’t get scooped up by MAPPA. Their current schedule already doesn’t seem sustainable. I know David Productions (and the majority of anime studios) isn’t known for their good working conditions either, but MAPPA seems like an especially bad situation.
I really don't want David productions to be canned for part 7, their work has just been getting better and better and I would genuinely cry if we never get to see Johnny with it.
@@chasseur2dragon_282 Compared to what? Dragon Ball Super? hell even earlier jojo parts don't look incredible. Nah part 6 looks fine barring one or two strange choices in cgi
It shows so much too. I'm currently rewatching part 6 and it's the only part that had a lot left out and feels rushed, likely to make the events fit into the batches rather than the season overall.
If mappa does animate it, it think we’re definitely getting cgi horses. They’ve been using it a lot recently with aot and chainsaw man. But regardless, praying for those mappa employees fr
I've always told people it'd make sense to be split in two like part 3 while ending the first half after Sugar Mountain, I feel pretty vindicated hearing somebody say the same lol. Johnny and Gyro making a toast after losing the corpse parts makes a bittersweet cliffhanger that definitely sets up the story for Tubular Bells and beyond where Valentine has more of a presence.
I think the battle between Johnny & Gyro vs Wekapipo & Magenta Magenta could be the best way to separate the series considering after the battle, the Steel Ball Run Race will only has few checkpoints left
if it splits off after sugar mountain - i'd want it to be for episode 22 of 48 then. there is far more pages in chapters 48-95 than there is in 1-47. i don't want another DiU & Death Note dilemma where the first half of the manga is 24/25 episodes, the rest is 15/12 episodes where they cut out quite a bit of good sh!+ resulting in people feeling like the latter portions waste their time lol
If DP ever switched being the animators. MAPPA would be on that shit causing their employees to lower their meet time with their family from 5 minutes to 2 minutes.
I think the criticism Netflix received from JoJo fans over the batches of Stone Ocean was heard and that is why more recent anime releases in general have gotten weekly releases. Dungeon Meshi for example, that show has done so well in part thanks to its weekly release, it makes the few times it gets cliffhangers having to wait or strong openings after waiting hit more. And each episode becomes more memorable as well, and more importantly for Netflix, widely discussed and memed, exposing people who haven't watched to check it out.
I don't think they listened to or even heard any criticism to be honest. Netflix will always prefer to drop episodes all at once or in batches if the decision is up to them, it's just a matter of how much $$$ they threw at a studio and what kind of terms they got them to agree on.
Personally I think they have and are moving in the right direction. I mentioned the 2 examples in my video but I’m pretty sure Netflix has been doing more weekly releases than just those two
I wish that was the case. But the shows they fund like Pluto, project bon and the Grimm variations all get dumped and forgotten. I think it's mostly studio push back that we get weekly otherwise.
The tattoo you fight is probably the best place to end a season. It leaves the viewers at a somewhat low point and after it we go straight on the valentine half of the part.
I also agree when Stone Ocean official translations are done (winter 2024 - early 2025) we could get an announcement at next years expo, after Fire Force is released, or whenever they start translating SBR. And DP has been releasing BANGERS lately so I think they’re more than capable of SBR in terms of funding, animation, how it will go, etc. I just want a weekly release I never got to experience JoJo Fridays💔
Yeah hopefully an announcement in early 2025. Even if it doesn’t come out in another year. At least we’ll know when for sure to expect it. Also love DP for their polish when it comes to anime
I think sbr anime is gonna be announced after they finish localizing the stone ocean manga and then they will announce the sbr anime as well as saying they will release the sbr manga in the west officially as well
I'd be mixed on changing the studio. For one thing, I liked the first 6 parts, and I'd be expecting more of the same. But on the other hand, since part 7 is essentially a reboot, a different studio could help it stand out as such.
This was in my recommended and I thought it was a fucking Elden Ring run using iron balls only LMAO. The title was written like an Elden Ring message too holy my brainrot.
Honest to god, as long as SBR is in the pipeline i’m fine waiting. This is really the part they can’t be screwing around with, so if it takes a bit to get everything working right in terms of production and structure, so be it.
To put it simply, horses are really fucking hard to animate consistently. They have so many moving parts and factors to take into account like momentum, anatomy, camera angles, and so on that all combine into one animal that has so many complex moving parts that interact with each other and the world in small minute ways while needing to be moved every single frame that having like 5 horses on screen at a time would be next to impossible for one studio to animate in a reasonable amount of time. so TLDR dont expect weekly releases ever unless they prepare an entire season in advance
It’s crazy how sugar mountain ends right in the middle of the part and it feels like the half way point. I do agree we will get a part 7 and it will most likely be david productions. My only fear is the batch release of scheduling.
it is the halfway point but i don't necessarily want that for the anime since the page count at the start wasn't as big as it became for the latter half, lol. that would result in a rushed second half just like the fate DiU & Death Note had ended up suffering & not for the best
They’ve been saying “this part will never get adapted” since like part 4. And ultimately we get an adaption every time and they are highly successful. This will be no different.
Man I just gotta say your voice is so comfy and I'm thankful there wasn't any bgm or sudden sounds disrupting the audio, it was very nice listening to this as audio, I'd definitely be back for more jojo vids with this style narration
As long as SBR and Jojolion are animated by the same studio I’m happy Seeing as it’s a different universe I wouldn’t be too mad if a different studio did 7 and 8
exactly. i dont mind another studio as long as it's the same studio. honestly finally seeing a different studio's take on jojo would be nice, as long as it doesnt suck lol. nothing against david production though i honestly wish they got more work, jojo's is really the only show by them that ive liked the story of (still watched fire force because the fights and animation were good) and they have the best sound design in the industry imo
I was thinking since Steel Ball Run is from a different universe, it would be cool to see a different style to the animation kind of separating it from the original 6 parts. And it could be a separate series also.
As someone who only just got into JoJo about 3 years ago; I'm just happy to see it finally happening, and feeling like I jumped on this bandwagon at right time because I haven't read the manga (now probably won't). Can't imagine what it feels like to have been around for the OVA and up till now.
When they were talking about only planning to animate up to part 6, they were planning this back when part 1/2 was in production and JoJo was no where near as large as it is now. DP is definitely going to be doing part 7.
Thanks for the video. As a person who copes for the anime every single day, this has been really cathartic. Probably the most insightful video I have seen on this topic. I also expect that we should start receiving some sort of info around 2025-26 but thats way into the future. All I really hope for is that they do it justice. Studio should be DP cause I absolutely want to hear steel ball's SFX. Would be better if they do a collaboration with another studio. Also no batch releases.
Somewhat above lukewarm take: people need to stop crying about CGI animations. We've come a long way since stuff like the Berserk CGI anime and there have been some beautiful animations using the technique since then, like Houseki no Kuni and Dorohedoro, not to mention the Guilty Gear anime that is coming next year and already showed off some amazing scenes in its trailers. Not only that, but a lot of the JoJo fandom seemed to get really attached to the CGI openings some of the parts got, so I don't see why there could be any complaints about using 3D animation in SBR
Agreed. That’s why I’m opting to make a separate video on this topic because there’s a lot to be explored including how it affects jojo’s production and visuals
Fire force goes absolutely insane after season 2 in the manga. Like it’s absolutely nuts. I hope they are able to adapt that well in the coming Season 3.
Considering SBR is more of a new start than "Part 7" My guess is that if we get some official announcement after a few months, then the quickest would be late 2025 If we get the announcement in winter 2024, then somewhere in 2026
Oct '12 Part 1/2 start to 3 start: *One½ yrs* Apr '14 Part 3 to 4: *Two yrs* Apr '16 Part 4 to 5: *Two½ yrs* Oct '18 Part 5 to 6: *Three yrs* Dec '21 now imagine the compositing/fidelity of what could be Part 7's anime...
I think the sugar mountain arc would be a fantastic part to end the first 24 cour on. Spoilers Since Johnny and gyro lose everything, I think them riding off after they toast would be a great finish to the first half. We would be anticipating their redemption in the second half, which would be cool
Very well done video! For a while I've been thinking that an announcement would be in late 2024 or early 2025, with a release in late 2025. I haven't read the manga, so I'm really excited to see where the story goes from here!
I don't think people understand how important an SBR anime is. It's not just the best Jojo part. It's one of the most universally praised works of manga in general. They need to take as long as they need to make it perfect.
mappa animating jjba is NOT a good idea at all, mappa is a very shit studio, they focus on getting as many anime as they can, too much they can handle. they dont train their staff and it ends up being a huge mess
Yeah even though they have 400 employees like I mentioned in the video, I didn’t mention they still also outsource work with freelancers cuz they have so many projects they’re working on
I believe they're slowly drawing some episodes while David Productions is working on their other projects. And when they're fully done, they'll focus more on the steel ball run. Which will probably start to happen in mid-2025, and the anime will be done in early or mid-2026. That's my theory, of course; I don't have a lot of information about SBR's adaptation; I'm just making logic out of little information I know. Hopefully it will be like how I said in the first statement.
I kinda agree with that. That’s why I said at the very earliest late 2025. If they wanted to ride the wave that has been the 2 year releases, then 2026 will be the likely soonest date. But if they want to hold off a little longer for more of part 9 to come out, it totally can come out later. I will update my pinned comment to clarify my stance
i feel like the amount of pressure of people wanting sbr and the studio seeing we love the anime so much will just make them make sbr im not gonna believe that they just stopped
given the main issue i'm seeing and agreeing with is getting the horses to look good, im supporting the idea of letting whoevers animating sbr take their time and not overwork themselves just for deadlines, if it needs more time it needs more time and i can certainly wait
they're trying to get James Baxter himself to be the animation director for the horses, this is why it's taking so long is what I tell myself to feel better about it
i really don't want part 7 to be animated by mappa. i think they've done a great job with series like chainsaw man and jujutsu kaisen, but i feel like every show mappa adapts loses it's personal style and just becomes a mappa show. like there's something about their artstyle or animation style that makes everything muddy and distinctly mappa. steel ball run has a very strong visual identity that i'd like to see preserved in an adaptation, so i'm hoping david pro works on it again. not to even mention the fact that mappa would literary sacrifice lives to get this adaptation done if they get it, although i'm not sure if david pro has better working conditions necessarily
Aye they cooking - it’s especially peeeeeek akrakiiii so u know they gotta bring their aye game !!! If definitely in production- their probably not gunna talk bout till it’s close to 75-90% done
I've already taken the liberty of reading and finishing SBR after Stone oceans ending knowing it'd take forever to animate it from all the horse back riding, but my god after this video I'd be surprised if it comes out in the next decade 💀
i think mappa sbr could go hard i already love mappas animations and tbh at first i was a little shocked but sbr is starting a new story so i think a change in the studio isnt all that bad
@@wongdiggidy yes thats what im saying i loved the animations on jjk season2 but sadly mid way they had problems and stuff happend but i can imagine a mappa sbr looking gooooood also i tought about Ufotable they did a awesome job on demon slayer but i think mappa would fit the jojos more
Give the fans 6 months, and a warehouse and part 7 jojo is going to get finished before the official anime. Unless araki made in Heaven the entire Milky way and we lose it 💀
David Productions has worked on the JJBA anime for years now so it'll feel very strange if another studio work on Steel Ball Run. I guess it remains to be seen who'll be in charge of production and direction for the anime going forward.
the high fidelity mappa is famous for might be detrimental to a jojo series due to how stylised it is but I'm still excited at the idea. Sbr has such beautiful art so mappa could be the perfect fit?
I can't think of JoJo without David Production. Their attention to details and sound design is incredible. If I really had to move the production elsewhere, my wish Is Madhouse
As long as netflix doesn’t get their grubby hands on it, I’m perfectly fine with waiting another 5 years it. The longer they take the better it’ll be, and for steel ball run, it deserves to be as peak as possible, like it deserves
I don"t know if this would be a good idea , l was thinking that it could aldo be adapted through a colaboration between 2 studios , but the questions would the fans like it ? Also l was wondering if 3 chapters per episode would be good enough or would it be better if more thank 3 chapters per episode .
19:46 If SBR was split into four part I think it should look like this. First quarter is from cali through the desert ending with either sandman fight or the first set of bounty hunters the president sends. Second quarter leading from last would end with catch the rainbow fight in Kansas. Third would then be getting to Chicago then end with the Gettysburg fight. And fourth being the final stretch of the race. P.s it’s been a year and a half since I read SBR excuse me if I forgot the timing of the fights in the first half.
this is hilarious... They would never consider announcing it so late. They would want to build up hype for the better part of a year if not more than a year. This is probably the single most important part in the show, so having it be reserved for a surprise short-term drop would be asinine on the producers part.
About a week ago a couple twitter accounts posted a leak from Reddit of shueisha greenlighting the anime back in 2021. What you are your thoughts about that?
Personally I think if that’s true we would have gotten an announcement for that. Take Stone Ocean for example, the announcement was made that the anime is in production with a teaser. I don’t doubt that Shueisha probably has plans but I don’t think they’re concrete plans (basically not coming soon) at the moment.
@@wongdiggidy ok , yeah it was some licensing and copyright things that secure it as being animated so if that is true I’m satisfied with it coming eventually
I dont think it would be with netflix because they always lose their rights to their anime like shaman king, eden zero, great pretender, knight of sidonia, and takagi san. Sure there are baki they stay for long but it been months since announcement of baki dou anime, Netflix haven’t say a word about it yet. But if it with netflix, it would be great because they dont have to care about episode counts or episode length.
I think Davidpro are still behind part 7, but it could get delayed to 2026. The reason I say this is because of the other main shonen series the studio handles, Fireforce S3 is set for next year as a split cour unlike the first few seasons and they also made the unique choice of leaving Undead Unluck as a one hour special that will only release at the end of 2025 instead of a quicker 2nd season announcement. This makes me assume that David pro is focusing on Fireforce and part 7 from the leaks while leaving Undead Unluck for an announcement of either 2026 or 2027.
Im kinda sure that Steel Ball Run will come in 2027-2028, i mean there's a lot of stuff going on in part 7 and it has some pretty complicated things to animate, im very excited for part 7 but i want it to be animated as late as possible so they can take their time and make it the best anime of the year or even the best anime ever
