They want to make it sound complicated so you think their coaching or books are needed to make it happen. I heard a quote once that success comes from willingness to do the boring, hard work day in, day out for years to achieve big results. People want to skip to the end & believe there’s a quick trick so they can cheat time, or they want an excuse for not doing it.

The trick some of these influencers are using is considering walking as a "non exercise activity", even though it's perfectly fine low intensity cardio. Most people don't see that exercise as cardio though, since they have been told cardio consists of running on a threadmill or bike in the gym. I have come back to the gym after a few years of sedentary life and I'm using walking as a very efficient tool to lose weight. I enjoy it so it's easy to incorporate into my routine - a win win situation .

Another good tip that I figured out is instead of being frustrated with the scale shift your focus. I've been on a weight loss journey since February of 2021, started at 264 and now I'm down to around 191. I did it by running 5 times a week and I gradually increased the distance as I hit my goals. While it started off as a way to lose weight at one point I decided that I wanted to see if I could get to the point where I could run a marathon, for no reason other than a personal goal. Although my weight goal was 180 I've been at this plateau for a few months, while it's frustrating I focus more on increasing the distance more than the scale, I'm up to 14 miles a day now. Of course I would love to hit that scale goal but I always remind myself that this plateau doesn't negate what I've accomplished up to this point and again the goal is the distance. If not losing anymore weight gets me there than so be it because when the day comes that I do hit that 26 mile mark what I weigh isn't going to matter, the fact I kept going will.
@_mark_787

I commend you on your fitness, but thats wayy too much. If you train too much, your body tends to hold on to weight. . Are you training extremely hard bc your diet isnt good?
@RenegadeGamer89
@RenegadeGamer89 Год назад
@@_mark_787 my goal is to run in the Los Angeles Marathon next year. I want to get to the point where a 26 mile run isn't a challenge, not saying it would be easy but not my limit either. You're right I am doing an insane amount of volume, I've actually adjusted it over the past year because I wasn't recovering well, but my mentality is that if I can hit my distance goal everyday I've earned the right to train harder. I won't lie my diet could be better, consistency has always been my issue, but the running isn't so much a weight loss thing anymore it's a personal goal. If I'm still overweight when I run the marathon but I'm able to finish then who cares right? My current training regimen looks like this Sunday: Full Distance Monday: Half Distance Tuesday: Rest Wednesday: Full Distance + 1 Mile Thursday: Rest Friday: Half Of Wednesday Saturday: Rest After 4 weeks I give myself a rest week. Right now because it's Summer I've gone back to shorter runs overall, right now I'm going between 6 to 10 miles. I'm sure that this isn't the most efficient way to train but it's what works for me and I enjoy it.

I think people often forget to mention is that strength training can help with cardio. Doing squats, deadlifts, presses and rows, along with mobility exercises, has helped get rid of a lot of pain when I do something like running. A lot of chronic low-level pain has largely gone from my lower back, IT band, rotator cuff and adductors which means I can run easier and so put more effort in when running and doing rugby training. Of course you have to make sure you are doing the exercises correctly and selecting mobility exercises that work best for you - I found Ben Patrick's exercises and ideas very helpful in that regard, but there is loads more out there. Strength training can of course make you feel stiffer and tight but you can find ways to deal with that and moderate intensity with periodisation - for example do mainly strength training for a couple of months with some cardio and then swap by doing mainly cardio with weights still there to keep your strength up and help make sure your body remembers the motor patterns. So I reckon, anyhow.

This whole “your body goes into starvation mode and stores fat” thing is a taken out of context. Sure. It happens…. Eventually after a significant period of severe calorie restriction. It’s so minuscule, it might affect one week of progress. It’s not like you can’t physically starve. It wasn’t a healthy way to do it but it’s what I did at the time. I usually eat about 1200-1400 a day, lift 4 days a week, and walk a minimum 10k steps every day. No supplements, eat better than most people but not ideal or anything. I have to periodically eat more or I'll sometimes drop weight too much. I'm at the low end of healthy. Bumped it up to 1600-1800 calories a day. I do this sometimes, when advantageous. I usually gain a couple pounds from the additional food and water weight and then ultimately not or less maintain on that. I'm a female in my thirties. I have a low BMR, and also happen to have PCOS. The reality is, you may need to make adjustments, but as you said, her claims are physically impossible.

I'm sick of society tricking people into thinking that their body shape is completely unrelated to eating and exercising habits. The most annoying thing though is them calling you out for eating too much (happened to me working as a waiter) when you have a muscular physique, visible abs and train your ass every day and who's critiquing you is an obese middle aged woman whose knee joints are begging for mercy. Unbelievable.

I think NEAT is quite under talked about and a big reason why people are misled to reject calories in calories out. I have AWFUL morning sickness right now and am sooooo much less active. Without exercise my steps would be about 8500 and I'd burn about 2300 calories according to my fitbit. During some of my most horrendous days, my steps dropped to under 3000 and I burned 1800 calories. My NEAT went down 500 calories a day from feeling good, moving around with the kids and cleaning the house to when I laid around as much as possible and felt like junk. Some people feel like if they exercise they "deserve" to lay around. If your job is sitting at a computer...you might be incredibly sedentary for all but your exercise time. If you are a short unmuscular unfit female, your "running", which as Coach Greg said was probably interval jogs, might not burn much to make up for the rest of the day. But if you eat a bit more, feel better and subconsciously increase your neat, and feel better about exercise and do it for longer low intensity...it can look like eating more helped you lose weight.

I worked with a coach recently. Weekly check-in's and adjustments to the diet. We went from 205lbs to 182lbs in 7 weeks. What did I learn? Caloric Deficit + regular exercise = results.... It's actually very simple to do.
@bri-manhunter2654
@bri-manhunter2654 2 года назад
It’s not that simple for everyone. Some of us have a super efficient metabolism. I’m one of those people coach Greg talks about. At 165Ib male my calorie bass is 1,700 with regular workouts and cardio. For me it’s very hard to get below 20%, and I even did a bunch of blood work and dietician consultations to figure out what was wrong.

We only saw quick snippet, but the food with cake she ate was probably around 1000 calories, that for one meal so did she not eat anything else that day? Clearly under reporting calories.
@Hoezi02
@Hoezi02 2 года назад
To be fair, if you have a huge deficit, your body is gonna adjust faster (relatively speaking) because you lose more weight, faster (so you're lighter), you'll also lose muscle (resulting in less calories burned throughout the day) and you'll feel like shit really fast (probably reducing your NEAT). So yes, it "takes longer" but at the same time it's also "faster" than with a moderately aggressive deficit.

I did this for a year and went from 300 to 180 pounds. I ate 1200 calories a day for 2 weeks and then I’d have a cheat day eating 2500+ calories. The 1200 calories didn’t starve me at all because I ate extremely high in protein. I was full after every meal. And I only ate lunch and dinner. I never hit a plateau except maybe it would slow down some at about the 11th or 12th day but I’d eat high calorie and high carb after 14 days, weight would go up by a few pounds, and it would go back down 2 days later and weight loss would be faster after that.

If you are a really small person you need to be careful about how you go about losing weight. At 1700 maintenance, trying to drop down to 1200 or less calories a day is dangerous and unsustainable for most people, and good luck not feeling like crap everyday, unless you're working out consistently and intensely (doubtful) with enough cardio only to raise those daily calories by 3 maybe 400, I recommend going on a much smaller deficit and accepting that you will lose weight slower than you'd like for the sake of your physical AND mental wellbeing, but you will eventually get to your goals.
