Don't Fall For This Bluey Scam 

I like how hes just like, "I know I know nothing about this" "I don't really wanna stick my nose into this" and then proceeds to disect and expose every lazy comm artist in the fandom. What a W lad.

Why pay a $40-$50 for a Bluey family portrait of my own family when I could just make one myself for free? Oh wait, I did.😁

I've done my fair share of tracing bluey characters to make ocs, but I will NEVER, and I mean NEVER, sell them, let alone even show them on the internet!

Honestly, I don't even care if all they're doing is editing stock images of characters in the show instead of drawing it by hand. For some people that's good enough for them and that's fine. But what does bother me is when they aren't honest. If what you're doing is photoshopping official art to fit someone's family, they should say that. The word "portrait" implies that they're actually drawing the art. If they would just be transparent about their process it wouldn't bother me at all. But it's very frustrating otherwise.

I saw these Bluey Family fan made OCs cost $15-$40! I was like F that! I made my own And I'm not disappointed!

This has been bugging me for a while, as a commission/professional artist 🙄 I keep seeing people posting that they are doing the commissioned Bluey art, when they are literally just taking existing characters and recolouring them. It’s not original at all, and just lazy! A year or two ago, I did one just for fun, for my daughter’s bedroom, and I did it from scratch, and it came out really good. But when I posted the finished artwork on Instagram I also posted the full process of me drawing and colouring it, to prove I wasn’t lazy 😂 I’m still really proud of it.

The Bluey fandom is a crazy place. The fact that B & B is talking about it is definitely proof it’s *CRAZY*

I’ve traced bases of Bluey characters to make my family as a gift for Christmas, but I would never sell it online.

I have been making hand drawn sketches here lately of Bluey styled OC’s because of boredom and the fact that I really love cartooning but haven’t done it lately due to carpal tunnel syndrome and other health issues. I now feel better about my own original artwork because of learning about how people steal or edit the artwork of others.

this has been one of my biggest pet peeves for a while. as a small artist who does original, stylized bluey art and even portraits like these, to see (mostly innocent parents!) get ripped off like this when there are so many better options is disheartening.

Yeah i was a victim of this scam, I'm out 100$. I even had to go back an recolor and fix mistakes and even reformat it so the image quality wasn't complete trash. It was done by a disgusting babyfur furry "artist". They took 4 months to complete it with multiple excuses. Smh, I'm still doing retouches on it. The only reason i didn't draw it myself is i don't have any drawing software on my computer nor is my computer working. So all i have is my phone and ibis paint.

I always thought the scammers just used the premade character maker "dress up games" online.

Due to ripoffs and scammers I just do it myself now 😅 if I can’t do that art style/type I learn how to do it. I understand most people don’t have that time or foundation in art skills but if you do it’s worth doing. Especially if you already have the necessary tools and supplies laying around at home

As a furry who is used to the idea of artists promoting commission prices of up to hundreds and even thousands of dollars, and yet they still sell like hot cakes every time they open, $40 - $60 dollars for a fullbody Bluey-style commission is pretty cheap in comparison. Though, living in a country where 60USD is 1/8 of my monthly salary, it's still very expensive to me. The sad reality of life and currencies. One day, I'll earn/save enough for one myself!

Some of those were made with a Bluey Picrew. That specifically states not to use it for monetary value. Insanity.

I'm not part of the Bluey fandom and have no idea how this video got recommended to me, but it's always good to expose a scam in any fandom.

Oh my god I always see the Bluey mums page on Insta so much and it makes me so mad that they’re trying to take advantage on the Facebook moms on there. They advertise the crap out of the family portraits and as an artist it’s frustrating to see that they charge almost $60 for stolen pngs and recolors. There’s so many other amazing artists that I follow that have charge so much more less than that and it’s worth it than whatever they sell lol. Not to mention the “memes” they post is just depressing and almost like a sign to never have kids 😭

Facebook is FULL of these sketchy family portraits, it’s hard to tell which ones are good or bad but the price of the work normally gives a pretty good idea…

I am an artist but my hand these days don't let me work on stuff sometimes. I do appreciate and purchase commissions but mostly when the artist has a distinguishable style. In those cases the artists are pricing a little higher but they truly offer a unique piece.

This might sound harsh but I’ll be honest that’s why I don’t do commissions at all yes I know there are good commissions but there are bad commissions too

This practice is not new, its been around as long if not longer than when Deviant Art was in its Heyday. Recolors have been always been an issue especially when people pawn them off as OG art or art for sale. On top of that doll bases have been around forever. People use to sell doll templates and people would draw over them to make their OCs and what not. It always has been and always will be a rip off, but its affordable. And for certain people, they don't care where the base got plucked from, or if it was stolen and recolored etc. Plus alot of it also has to do with fans who want art that looks exactly like the show, which can be hard as certain styles can be incredibly simple which makes customization a bit tricky especially if you're trying to stay within the tight guidelines of the style. Honestly, it would be nice if people could shop around for artists, look at their portfolio and and pick them to draw their ocs or families in a similar but different style. Characters are still recognizable outside their original style. Heck look at the variety of yugioh, final fantasy, animal crossing and avatar the last air bender art, all recognizable, but different styles. Honestly as much of a dumpster fire as it can be Tumblr is still my favorite place to find artists for commissions.

As a furry artist on Etsy, this is always a hellish sight lmao. People put time and effort into their work, only for people with no effort whatsoever to shove those artists below and claim that their recolouring is “art” in an attempt to scam folk.

Honestly, you will NEVER see me use AI to generate art or let alone support artists that JUST recolor characters with no real effort. But, I'm also very terrible at making art and sometimes even wish I could be good at it (spoiler: I get too busy to take the time to learn it). That said, I am more than thrilled to pay talented artists that draw with their bare hands that do the work and present great results. I've met and am friends with a bunch of them too, which I'd never thought I would be able to say. Lastly, great video as always B&B. It's time we've addressed that scam. I actually recently drew one myself of my own family, lol. I asked my friends on Facebook what breed of dog they thought I'd be, and a lot of people said Saint Bernard, so I did that. I even tried to incorporate my hairline and facial hair in the coloring, haha. For my wife I did a Great Pyrenees, and my daughter a Bernard Pyrenees mix. I did use pieces of existing characters for reference, like Frisky's ponytail for my wife, that one saint Bernard background character for the general proportions of my character, and used bits of Bingo and Muffin for my daughter's overall shape, then added her hair and looked up a Bernard Pyrenees mix puppy for color schemes. It was super fun, and some people in the Bandits Dad group I'm in on Facebook said they'd commission one from me, but I don't think I'd be able to do it very well for someone else's family 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nuh uh you do not use traced or copied or recolored works in your portfolio (example images for customers). Those are techniques used to learn, not products. You could use those as mock ups (along with the actual piece as comparison) but displaying those like they are finished pieces is dishonest and wrong.

A lot of times when people commission me to do bluey style portraits they always state that they want a dog from the show, I try to get them to pick a different color/fur pattern so that it’s not a rip off of the og characters. It’s hard to convince the buyer because sadly they rather have the dogs from the show. I even try getting them to pick dog breeds that the show hasn’t really used yet. I can say one thing my favorite part of doing the commissions is making the backgrounds from scratch, I’ve only had one person request a scene from the show but everyone else has requested things like a forest, or a field with a barn and fence or a certain place the really like, like their grandma’s old house in fall. Recently I’ve done a beach scene which was really fun. I even got a chance to design a dirt bike in what I think it might look like in a bluey scene. Brambles is one of my biggest inspirations when it done to doing these types of commissions.

The $40-60 commission is actually arround what the price of a 1-3 character commission might be for actual drawing. The photo bashing could work and look good, but gotta put a bit more effort than that for that price.

my mom wanted to get all of our family gifts and did this Bluey Family Portrait things. She got the art but it was really bad and didn’t look anything like us along with some poorly photoshopped accessories. I was really upset because she paid this lady decent money to make something that wasn’t even well made and you could tell no time was out into it. They also added clip arts of out dogs, but they looked nothing like our actual dogs, and made no stylistic sense for the drawing.

I’m kind of pissed because season four and the other seasons of Bluey are not on Disney+

I know this stuff is extremely dishonest and unethical but I saw a shirt with 2 badly coloured Mackenzies (similar to the thumbnail of this video) on it, each holding swords with the words “bye bye” written below (in a font that was supposed to replicate the bluey font, but failed). It was the funniest thing ever

This reminds me of the drama that happened some years ago in the MLP fandom, about using bases (God, I feel old). The usage of bases itself is (im mi opinion) not bad, a bunch of well knowm artist started like that, akd some still create really good art with them. The whole drama started when people started selling "adopts" that were clearly the main protagonist or any other charcter as an "original", with the only dofference being a few new colors or a new CM/Name...didn't end well, and pretty sure the drama will still continue if DeviantArt wasnt such a wasteland nowadays...
