I retired last Feb 29 2024. Yes, Chosen retired at age 60 - after working since 1987 at the same place..... Luckily,I have so many hobbies (from DIY renovation tasks, to ATV/UTVing, to boating, to snow nobiling, to driving my wife around, to swimming, to helping my son with his house renovation projects, etc. etc.). During last few years (before self retiring), my "full time job" was getting into the way of my personal life.... Yes. I'm lucky to have other hobbies / interests in life..... For me, retirement is less stress and huge amounts of freedom!
Thank you Thank you! I’m 3 years from retirement and was watching March Madness games, then the wife said a something that hit hard, “is this what you are going to do in retirement watching tv all day?” I shut off the tv storming mad, then looked on RU-vid on retirement and this vid popped up, I think you guys probably saved my life, subscribed n now watching all the rest of your vids.
We are so glad you are here @WuddupRAY. Great story that you shared and we hope you spend the next three years getting ready for your retirement. Lean into what you learn here and please ask us any questions you like
Working part time has been a common thing I am seeing with my "retired" friends. I plan on doing the same so I can maintain a routine and a sense of purpose. Work, as hard as it is at times, gives a sense of accomplishment that's important to my self--esteem. Not sure that I will want to fully retire until my health changes dramatically. Time will tell.
Exactly. We're even told it's important to let kids fetch bored so they learn to occupy themselves. There's the mental health side to it too. Its not being bored per-se but spending time to decompress
I love that they do not suggest to go back to work. Most retirees have health issues and cannot return to work. This is so real! Great ideas for daily life!
Great video. I almost feel like I'm supposed to get bored. Nearly two years into retirement and I haven't had the opportunity to get there yet. I think being curious is a great cure for boredom in retirement. Nothing is out of the realm of possiblilty. You can do anything or be anyone. Retirees need to break out of their old mold, detach and move on, and not be embarrased or ashamed to redefine themselves. Sorry, this video made my mind start rolling! LOL.
This is all so true Tom. Your RU-vid channel “Evolutionary Tom” says it all. In retirement we have time to do what we want. The key is to find some things that bring us joy and fulfillment. Great advice you gave, thank you
I enjoyed the video on fighting boredom very much. It is very informative. But I notice no mention of Church activities. My wife and I are wondering why?
We did not mean to skip over Church activities. That is a wonderful community of like minded people so thank you for reminding us about that. I think we should do a specific video on that topic.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re thrilled you enjoyed the video and found our advice helpful. Sending warm greetings right back to beautiful South Africa! 🌍😊
2 months immediately after retirement, I booked bus tours for seniors at least once a week, sometimes twice. Coupled with home chores, taking care of my pets, etc.
at 3 mos I was stir crazy. Couldn't spend money because I would spend my money too fast... So I went back to work. I missed it. But now what? I am on the verge of doing it again. I need clarity.
I’m sorry your in this state of flux. Let us know if you would like us to interview/coach you through the process. The only caveat is stat we would publish the Zoom call. But it could help you and many others who are stuck too. Let us know
Starts in earnest at 6:00. Not very useful advice for singles without a business. Friends went AWOL with politics and covidiocy. We need real meaning in our lives, not just hey I can plan on tidying a closet and then i can tidy a closet today. 😏
Sandy do you volunteer locally? You don’t have to start at 6:00 that’s the beauty of retirement… it’s up to you to find your people and your passions … hopefully the two will connect!
I’m not religious, but generally in generations past, when people reached the end of their life they generate became more serious about their faith. Religious faith helped grow their social circle and gave them something to do.
We surrender the weekends to the working families. We avoid shopping and restaurants. We do take advantage of the weekend activities like ballgames and shows. We often just hit the road with no planning. Our route 66 imitation.
I've not worked since 2018 and apart from a few months being tied down by covid i have enjoyed every minute of it. What did i do? .... Pretty much nothing, because doing nothing makes me feel relaxed and happy.
Wow , i am in a real pickle . Retired very comfortable at at 59 . but live alone in far isolated northern Canada . Worked very hard through life but never married or had children fell in love 3 times but now solo . no family and few friends left with anything in common . Just don't want to be here anymore but scared to leave . All the trappings of cruises and laying on a beach don't interest me . I am looking for a purpose anywhere in the world that can use my skills and creativity . Any ideas welcomed ??
Church has been a very important part of my life (especially after retiring). Church provides great Christian fellowship, important sermons, and opportunities for ministry/service to others. I have some of my closest friends now in my church (Grace Baptist in Birmingham, MM). That is my #1 suggestion. Thanks for asking. Best regards, John
@@CheckThisOut77 Thank you John , i have been considering such a direction and may find something to be of service overseas . I have prayed for guidance in my time of confusion . Thank you again for the wise response
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x93_INDZCEk.html Here is a link to a video on solo retirement. Maybe there are some tid bits in there to help you.
Feel the fear & do it anyway. Pick a location & go visit. Don’t have money for hotel rooms, look at vanlife/car camping and set yourself up & spend a week moseying around somewhere new, see if it has something to offer, if not next time try somewhere else that interests you. This is an adventure, not a destination. This will leave with the safety of home to go back to if it gets too scary but it will also build confidence to step away from the life that’s not what you want.
Here it is the end of August, and I retired on July 1st. after a heart attack in February. I put off retiring because my wife is six years younger. But, I realized that we aren’t promised tomorrow. I have spent the last few years buying some toys I would need when I did retire. So I now do photography, and do some kayak fishing. My trophy activity is watching my grand kids a few mornings each week also. New sub!
We don’t assume that. But at the core for most humans is having strong healthy relationships. There are always outliers that are different and that’s fine.
I've been retired for 2 months. I early retired at 60 yrs old, before my husband and friends. Yes, I am bored and lonely. I'm searching for clubs, groups and also things that I can do solo safely.
I have been retired since 2020 & am not bored. I walk 10000 steps daily, swim at the gym, read books from the library, day trips with my wife, & normal day to day living activities. I enjoy retirement.
I’m in my mid-40s and looking forward to very comfortable retirement in a year. Continuing to work a stressful career just to keep making money when it’s no longer necessary feels kind of silly, but I am concerned about the boredom. In my line of work, no one needs a part timer, it’s all or nothing. What a quandary.
Janet we have a lot of clients who end up going back to work in various capacities after trying retirement out. We did that and that is where this business came from. Each of us needs to chart our own course for sure!
