Getting a yellow / red card for kicking the ball away is one of the stupidest rules ever. How does that rule promote or enhance the game? Can’t the premier league afford another ball? Don’t they have ball boys to throw another ball right back onto the pitch? Can’t the referee stop his watch and restart when he blows his whistle? What about stopping the clock NFL style?

I'm glad Cundy read the rules out loud regarding the delay of the restart but the question remains where was those very same rules for Sbozlai, Doku, Joao Pedro and others? If they dont enforce the “dont kick the back away” rule then what will happen is that players will be kicking the ball away at every stoppage in the game and the game will grind to a halt and be a dog to watch.

The problem isnt that he is sent off, its the inconsistancy. You wanna be overzealous, fine, but its twice now Arsenal players are sent off for less agregous version of what the opposition did in the same match. Rules are meant to uphold a fair game, if they apply to one team & not the other its an inherent injustice worse than having no rules at all...
