I was in this scenario. I was a Senior and moved into a ADA Position for the team I was on, it was a hybrid team of Software and data engineers with a few BI analysts.
@@SeattleDataGuy I adapted ok. The hardest part was learning to let go of some of the programming and engineering to do more of the leadership of the team and the org. Going from working on projects to developing strategy was not bad. I could google to get templates to help with some of the things like creating long term roadmaps and estimating needed headcount based on various inputs. The harder part was finding time for all the meetings, balancing that with helping to mentor new data engineers to the team and providing feedback, and following up on performance plans to ensure that everyone was on track. I ended up finding a executive mentor to work with to help to guide me with some of the things like navigating politics (I reported to a COO so there was a bit of that) and how to balance allowing my team to have the empowerment they needed to learn and do the work but still be there to mentor and teach as needed. Sorry that was a much longer winded answer than you may have wanted.
Most of what you have talked about is data interfacing with business. How about the role of the head of data interfacing with their team. I would like to pick your brain on coaching and encouragement of the team.
