Sweet corn is one type of vegetable that is good to keep an eye on even BEFORE it emerges! I plant on a time schedule and sometimes have to compromise on field conditions. Usually this works out ok except sometimes, like here, it doesn't. The field was a little too wet when planted and with full sun right after, developed a crust on top. If I had been on top of this, I could have saved a bunch by poking holes in the row for a way for the plant to emerge. Once it starts to curl under the crust, it stands little chance of survival. So my bad...stay on top of what your field is telling you!
