We going to cast like that! Dude I love this channel. Stay tru. Me and my son are shore fishers in Guam. Our favorite catch and cook on the beach is Mumulan (trevally), Palakse (partotfish), Tataga (unicornfish). Don't stop your thing Bro.

Love the Channel, and this tutorial, i made my kid study it :) Coming to Oahu in June 7-27.2019.. would gladly join you guys on an adventure!!! I was always too broke back in the day to afford to buy lead so I just looked for certain size and shape rocks on the beach with holes in it to run the line through and tie a knot, and if it got stuck I wouldn't feel bad losing it because theres usually lots more where that came from also the rock gives the leader a natural look👍 im sure I'm not the only one who was broke and did that 😂

Look up how to tie and use egg loop knots, your bait will stay on longer multiple cast you wont run out of bait as fast now you'll be able to fish longer👍. I use it for king salmon casting out roe (fish eggs) which is delicate to begin with so the egg loop knot is key to holding on to those eggs longer and I'm able to make more cast, with other baits like shrimp or squid the egg loop knot will hold for a lot longer than without it and you can cast with confidence knowing the bait wont fly off from casting 🎣 🤙🏾

I dunked a veke at puoko bay yesterday, no luck. I had to move it like 3 times because the whale watching tours kept coming and going. At the end of the day it was gone. But my son caught his first fish with a bamboo pole. A decent size kupipi. Nice video, I do the same technique. It’s all about being as gentle as possible. What do you recommend for the weight of the lead compared to the bait? I tend to cheap out and buy small dunking leads or just try and find a rock with one puka inside.

2 oz seems to be my favorite size as of late. Ahhh yea the boats can come in hot and get lines alllll messed. Stoked you son got hooked up!!!! Those are memories right there.

Just started getting into dunking more. I gave a 12’ Shimano and 8k reel. Besides live bait (oama), what is the biggest fish you’d use with a spinning reel dunking setup? Would a dead 5-7 inch Halalu/akule or Weke etc be too big?

Since living in alaska ive learned how to fish with floaters or "bobbers" properly, and i bet it would work good back home in Hawaii. Bobber stoppers can control and adjust the depth of where you want the bait or jig to be fishing at in the water coloumn depending on what kind fish you're targeting, either up high down low or too slow nah😂 mid depth. Check it out how to use the bobber stopper set up its a great technique to use 🤙🏾

@ShakaFishing check out the braddahs at Addicted Fishing, they have a really good how to on bobber knots and float fishing as well as how to tie an egg loop knot which holds the bait on the hooks longer and you can cast with confidence knowing your bait won't go flying off as easy

Try using cannon ball weights they will stick but you can reuse when your bait gets plucked. Then not losing a weight every time you cast.....🤙

Boys if you’re going to the islands on spring break like me MAKE SURE YOU WEAR SUNSCREEN. First day out fishing I got second degree burns on my neck hands and legs now I’m covered in blisters and can’t fish the rest of the time. Reapply and stay safe guys 🤙

This is the most common cast but the right casting method is by holding the rod upward like a sword " jodan no kamae " stance for example and then by pulling the butt of the rod as hard as you can by using your left hand. Because most people common mistakes of casting is that they using their right hand like you throwing the rod and the result is shorter distance. It's a simple physics like trebuchet catapult, when I go fishing people compliment me of how far I can cast and I thought them the right way of casting. If you know the place of Kewalo Basin harbor if you know the fishing spot I can cast my 11' rod and 60 lbs line also lead weight is 5-6, casting it around 400 ft to other side of the restaurant. Try this technique and you find out how far you can cast also you improve it the distance by doing the swinging the lead which in this video. This is my opinion but I approve this technique because I've been doing this for very long time. By the way great video and see you again if you visit Oahu P.S we see each other on Kewalo before! Oh right on dude thank you for the in depth response! I do like the katana style method, it is a prime way to get a good blast into the cast. It is the way I always end up casting my whip for the most part and how I explain it to people when teaching them good posture for casting. Like you are cutting with a katana. Mahalo braddah!
