Great question - In this video I am using the word "songs" very loosely - maybe the terms "ideas" or "beats" or "sketches" could also be used. In other words, I think it's extremely important to, among other things, have recorded at least one new idea everyday. This idea can be one or two simple loops, with or without a bridge or intro, etc. My perspective are very limited, but in my experience, it is not uncommon for a producer to create 3 or 4 of these in a day. In extreme cases, some do up to a dozen. Some only do one or two. Of course, everyone has their own process. For me, I make one or two everyday, unless I am touring or in "album mode". "Album mode" is a time where I"m completing an album and I temporarily cease making new ideas. But honestly, of all the producers I know, I make the least beats.

Honestly probably not the best for the piano because the felt can be negatively impacted by humidity and temperature changes, but I can't help myself - it sounds so good

Lol! I don’t hate Prince’s mixes, I love them - but they are definitely weird, harsh, or sloppy sometimes - but that doesn’t mean I don’t like them!

It is definitely possible to do great things in music even if you are not full time - but if the time you have to work on music is limited, then 1) organizing your time, 2) working on the right stuff, and 3) developing long term consistency will be extremely important. If everyday you 1) spend one or two hours, 2) working on the right stuff, and 3) extend that out to multiple years of development, you can become a very strong musician.
