FCM was my intro to Splotter, and quickly became one of my favorites. I have since played Bus and Roads & Boats, and love both of them, but I don't know if those would have pulled me into other Splotter titles like FCM did. There's just something about FCM that really does it for me. I can't wait to try Antiquity and The Great Zimbabwe, and, of course, Horseless Carriage.
I started with Food Chain Magnate as a first Splotter. However, of course it wasn’t my first heavy game. Coming from Twilight Struggle, Sekigahara, SW Rebellion, Blood Rage type games FCM is fine. Don’t make it your first heavy game or if you prefer low interaction but I think for many it’s a very fine first choice.
I agree. I feel like this guy kind of just prefers to avoid conflict or anything difficult. He brings in people to teach games and held onto Food Chain Magnate for years before he played it because he said it was too complicated and he couldn’t find people to play with… while running a board game RU-vid channel.
Food chain magnate was my first splotter game... just play with someone that wants to teach.... and then play through first round until bank busts... then start over and play from the beginning... you will be much better off...
I think that being in the business of constantly reviewing games leads to a clustering of organizing and buying of games that are not of value to most people. People just want games they want to play. Publishers and designers can inform, but I do not think most people want to play "some games by X" like a designer or publisher. They want to play games that ARE X, not BY X. Of course someone churning through games like a reviewer, is going to churn and have an interest in clustering by a designer or publisher. This being said, Fast Food should in no way be the first economic game someone tackles. But, it can be the first Splotter game if they played Brass: Birmingham or some games by Lacerda. If I want to play a cut throat economic game and played more complex games, then why not?
Hmm This is their best game ( the most popular one) so the most people appriciate and like it so I should say that if you want to check Splotter FCM is the best way to do it. After Lacerda's, Mindclash's and Pax's I think Splotter is same in case of getting how to play. I think the problem is thaht people buy 50-60 games and play 1-2 times so then yeah don't play FCM casue you will not see it's magic. So I competly disagree :P If you want to start with some author you should always check their best title first Pfister -> GWT Wallace -> Brass Lacerda -> On Mars so for splotter is FCM
Splotter = crazy prices. They are one publisher putting out noted games that once people get into the hobby want to play but then they miss the window to get it. About all their games are like that. They get cult followings that cannot sustain continued runs. Tabletop games increasingly can reach grail status due to how the business works.
