I love how he breaks the Cigar by accident, throws it away and at the end changed the text from "Can someone light my damm cigar" to "Can someone find my damm cigar"
@@lynarielle I was thinking about that and I think that was staged with the original lyrics as well, like he is looking for a lighter, either way tho it was quick thinking
One thing i noticed is that one of the dancers adapted to the change in lyrics "can someone FIND my damn cigar" and he frantically checks himself for it THAT IS GOOD IMPROV ACTING it shows attention to detail when the spotlight isnt on them and i find that amazing
It wasn’t just one of the dancers and they weren’t adapting or improvising. The choreography has them looking for lighters. Why would they be checking themselves for his cigar?
@@Masonj919 no its, if you watch when he says "ha ha" he accidentally broke the cigar he entered stage with. in the orignal number the line is "can someone LIGHT my damn cigar", so he changed it to find since he threw the broken cigar behind him, around 1:37
@@m0xxie-pr7ju8ex4u I know that he broke the cigar and I know that he changed the lyrics to “find my damn cigar.” I’m saying that the dancers were not improvising by searching when he sings “find my damn cigar.” They were just doing what they would have done regardless, which makes sense with the original lyrics. They were supposed to act like they were looking for lighters
1:24 kills me every time, because the original version of this number on the show he NEVER would have stood like that, but he’s so used to Shakespeare he’s like “this is how you take center, right?”
Let's be honest. We may admire high belts and dramatic ballads, but these are the kind of numbers that we truly LOVE. And incredible professionalism of course. Even for 'Ha ha' he didn't break the character and continued like it was all part of the plan😂 It's the best things in theatre when sometimes goes wrong and performers improvise like it's nothing.
@@RLucas3000 The gayest thing he has ever done is probably Falsettos (it's an amazing show you can find a pretty good prosh... Slime tutorial on RU-vid) but he did play a very zesty version of Shakespeare in Something rotten lmaoo
I will NEVER be bored of watching this. Of course, the first few times, I was just marveling at Christian. But the choreography and the men who perform it are so impeccable, each one such joy to watch with all the facial expressions and minute moves, I can find new delightful details every single time. Damn, what a piece!
i love his mess up at 1:38 idk why im madly in love with him (i dont mean the cigar breaking but i love that too, i meant the original lyrics are "she needs to learn shes only skin, the next girl's waiting for a spin" but AAAAAAAAAA😖😖💕💕💕)
i've been analyzing a number of moments from this video as a previous dancer and director and i'd just like to say a major props to the dancers who accounted for time and a sub not fully knowing their counts. y'all were so professional, sub included, i didnt notice certain things until i slowed it down in certain moments to watch how the minor flubs were caught & remedies. again, major major props to the pros all on that stage you all did amazingly
okay can we point out that this man the god damm man the king mr bore literally the night before won the Tony now most people would be in their bed the next day hungover basking in the glory not him - he is a king x
Ummmm..they did. It was called SMASH...but it was a TV show. Now....if you're talking about "BOMBSHELL", the musical (within the musical SMASH)...it's heading to Broadway soon...
@@axelkyster2642 actually bombshell isnt coming to broadway, but smash the musical is!! theyre turning the tv show itself and its storyline into a musical but not the musical made within the show. its weird but im very interested lmao
Okay while we all love this performance, we can all admit this felt WAYYY less energetic than the original version. Maybe he had done this for multiple days in a row and he was tired today but while the ensemble felt entirely choreographed and excited, Christian looked like he just wanted to go home 😭
it was the day after he won his second Tony. He was running on chugging coffee to deal with the hangover and lack of sleep. In the zoom reunion a few years later he described this concert as a 'one of the most happy and sureal moments of his life with everything coming together and a 'very beautiful, very difficult long day.'' He looks like he might pass out during some of the finale.
I originally only watched this cause of the hot men with nice bodies being in their underwear, but the dong was actually really nice and fun, and i loved the choreography!
It was. It was in NBC and detailed the lives of writers, actors, dancers, producers, financiers, etc., of Broadway and Off-Broadway productions. It had an ensemble cast to die for, including the above Mr. Borle. The initial vehicle for production was an imaginary show entitled “Bombshell,” a musical biography of Marilyn Monroe. The two main (& at times rivaling) actresses vying for the spot were Megan Hilty and Katherine McPhee. Anyhow, if you get a chance, WATCH! It only had two seasons, but it was phenomenal. It’s on Amazon Prime and Apple TV.
Yeah, the premise was that the characters are all involved in putting together a new musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe. Christian Borle's character, Tom Levitt, was the musical's composer, and Debra Messing played his partner, Julia Houston, who wrote the book and lyrics. The show went through the musical's production process from workshop to Broadway. There was a lot of really good original music throughout the show. This particular scene is one they "produced" for the musical, and is supposed to be one of the studio executives meeting with his employees (in a steam room, apparently as some kind of power play)
It's from the fictional musical, Bombshell. In the early 2010s, a tv show called Smash aired on NBC. The show followed a theatre group making a new Broadway musical.
A short lived TV show from about 12 years ago. It was lively and fun drawing in a diverse audience because the show had something for everybody. It's a shame how the show wasn't given a good chance or moved to another network or cable to keep it going. I never until now saw anything about it again after it was removed. This scene with the good looking guys dancing/singing in boxers was a SMASH...that's also the title of that great jewel of a show.
@@whatshappeningtodayfolks Well...sort of..... This was a charity "staging" of the musical "Bombshell" from 2015,,, BUT the musical IS finally coming to Broadway this/next(?) season...
@@rrtolkein4221 It happens all the time. I admire him for being able to improvise so well with the lyric change. You cant expect humans to be perfect, its a live preformance. EPIC WIN CHRISTIAN BORLE!
I once laughed off people who said women degraded themselves by taking part in performances like this. Now I see men doing it I realise what they were talking about.
