5:28 You where just in front of the ancient roman temple of the jupiter, which is hidden gem full of Croatian history. Place of the baptism of a few Croatian kings: Krešimir and Zvonimir :) Thanks for posting this video of my city !
Pravo remek djelo. Fantastic effort, please continue with your channel Sarah!
For language learning purposes may you please explain the meaning of the "mrak"? The dictionary says that it means "dark". I guess it the phrase above it has a positive context. Hvala Unapredi!
@@Qvantro , in the Zagreb city and it's surroundings, 'mrak' word means COOL, OUTSTANDING. It is frequently used as a street language and jargon. It denotes something good and positive
We loved split! The city was amazing and we were able to walk to marjan for rock climbing and to beaches for a swim after:) it was also super easy to access nearby areas like omis
I am from Split but living in Germany. I always wanted to introduce my town to German people but didn’t find good video . I think you made this video just perfect informativ , fun and above all interesting ( no just talking much crap interrupting like other RU-vidr ) respect . Just the way one video should be like . Thank you 🙏
Split is beautiful! I visited for a day when visiting family in Sibenik in June 2019. It’s nice to see some “normal” returning to Croatia. I can’t wait to return!
the name of the cafe bar on Marjan is Vidlica, not Vidalica. If it was Vidalica, it would have something to do with the screw :) Nice video btw, Croatian tourist board should hire you
Prelijepo deaga Sara. Veliki pozz ❤️😘🌸
Interesting fact: KK Split is the best European basketball team of the 20th century, voted by FIBA, the International Basketball Federation. Also: At one point in the 90s, Split was the city with most active NBA players (3) born in it, in the whole world, including all U.S. cities.
That's a very good video. Split is a place I would love to go (when I can travel again) so thank you for gaving me a tour of the city and you all are a beautiful family.
I hope you visit Split when things get back to normal (pandemic), have a proper experience, and maybe even attend Hajduk - Dinamo football match :) Thumbs up for videos. Hajduk zivi vjecno!
Split is the capital of Dalmatia. The most beautiful part of Croatia. Actually Dalmatia is the cradle of Croatia. This is the ancient part of Croatia where the oldest ancient churches and monasteries are and where 80% of Croatia‘s poets, writers, musicians, top sport stars are from. It is the historical and cultural center of Croatia. This is were in 925 the Kingdom of Croatia was founded and where Croatia’s kings resided. At 13:24 you can see the Monument of Marko Marulic ...Croatia’s main linguist, writer and intellectual from the 15th century. He was also from Split. The monument is a master piece by world wide famous Croatian Genius Ivan Mestrovic who also created the sculpture for Gregory from Nin at 13:37
@@Caleidus in Dalmatia Croats have always been the 95% majority. Italians haven‘t even lived in Dalmatia . They moved there during Habsburg times. And only in minor numbers. Split was always a pure ethnic Croat city and the cradle of Croatia and Croatian identity. Šibenik didn’t even exist during Roman times. Šibenik is a city founded by the Croats. Read again „de administrando imperio“ from 950 AD by the Byzantine Emperor Constantin VII. You’re just a serbian chauvinist🤡
I stayed in Split a few years ago as I had a Croatian friend living there. Can you understand Croatian dialects? Our common language was Esperanto, but her partner couldn't speak Esperanto or even English. A while before my trip I spent quite a lot of hours trying to learn Croatian which was a bit easier for me than for many other English speakers as I already know quite a bit of Russian. But my friend said that she doesn't really speak Croatian at home, but a dialect. That meant that I understood nearly nothing! It seems to me that many people in Croatia, even young people don't speak Croatian at home, but one of many dialects.
Prelijepo .i super objašnjeno .... Split is wonderful city..../ and you are Sara amazing with all explanations..... 10+.... thank you and keep going 🙋🏼♀️
One of the reasons for this is acoustics of the space, and this is also not by accident. Vestibul was designed in a way for emperor to "show off" to guests which he would meet there and where he would speak. Ceiling of the Vestibul was in colored glass. So you can imagine colors and acousotics there when emperor had a speach
Guys, Croatian Tourist Agency ("uhljebs" ;-D ) should pay you extra for promotion of our country. They should promote your (and similar) channels on their social networks. Your videos are so tempting for foreigners to visit (or even for something bigger - move in) Croatia. Even domestic people get the urge to visit some places you guys promote. I mean, video quality, drone shots, mrs. Sarah's eloquence, kids runing around, croatian natural beauties and heritage, extra videos where you explain life in Croatia and differences... whole thing, very professional and, I guess like I wrote, tempting and relaxing. Big thumbs up! Keep doing great job... and God Bless :-)
Wow, thank you so much for your extremely kind words and support!! It means a lot, and we really appreciate it! We're so happy people are enjoying the videos, and we have fun making them :) Veliki pozdrav od nas!
@@RoyalCroatianTours Old Lemming is absolutely right, wants me to write it too but I didn't want to be a troll 😀 picture your kids running around almost without any supervision, your free movement completely alone even in basements of palace give a picture of security and complete calm while staying in our city, that is also true ! so THANK YOU for that Sarah! ! A promotion that no one can record artificially or pay enough for, especially in this difficult Corona time. Many people who are engaged in tourism now live hard, be sure that you have done a lot for them and for the city of Split and for Croatia! I can't do anything but send you a kiss! 😘 God bless you, you personal, your family and your sweet children ☺️🙏
Thank you sooo much for this video and the way you embrace any place you go to. I was born and raised in split, love the beauty of the city and crazy about "The Cellars" but - I LOVE visiting Zagreb ! Absolutely love the capital. Split in summer time - ZG in all the other seasons 😅😉 p.s. Diocletian Palace survived all the centuries but was destroyed by nazy germany during the second world war.
Love how clean it is!! Compared to other more Western located European cities.. Maybe a bit more landscaping, apart from the boulevard Palm trees, would be nice around the occasional squares.
Thank you for all the great videos about Croatia! Can't wait for our trip in July! Sara, would you please share a bit of information about the current situation, are people generally relaxed about this whole thing? Are there still a lot of restrictions? thank you!
Actually Split is over 1700 years old. And the Cathedral St.Domnius is the oldest or the second oldest Catholic Cathedral still in service world wide. Emperor Diocletian even moved the capital of the Roman Empire from Rome to Split for a couple of years while he was ruling. He was initially from Salona (today Solin) . De facto a suburb of Split.
What a wonderful city Split is. When I watch your videos across Croatia, I could say: whereve you lay your hat, that's your home. You can see that and feel it. ;) Canada, thank you! (funny fact: I almost wrote by mistake "....da bi moga vidit STARU snimat grad..." xD)
Hi! I am a Croatian living in Canada since I was 5yrs old. My father recently returned to Croatia for his retirement and he is loving it. I love watching your videos. Have you been hearing about what is going on in Canada in terms of housing prices? It's completely nuts but now I can't stop thinking about moving back. It's like the perfect storm is being created in Canada and I keep thinking maybe I should sell my house and use it to live in Croatia. What do you think? Would you tell a Canadian (I am 40yrs old) to take a leap and sell everything and move to Croatia (I am single and have no pets or kids).
Most of my younger family members there have degrees and have a tough time finding well paid work. I also want to move there but I’ll be taking my retirement money.
I'm on Vir on a small island. It is a very nice island full of beautiful houses and the sea is warm. But we don't take a bath. We really spend every year in our apartment. And in the summer every year. Sometimes we go in In winter, here in the spring we are here now. Sarah please pass this message. I love you and enjoy Split
common misinformation, it's not just Diocletian's palace under UNESCO protection, it's the entire old town of Split (like Trogir and Dubrovnik). But great video altogether!
Tako da ja tada nisam imao vremena za "the most beautuful sunset in the world".
Kad sam dosao u Hrvatsku, zelio sam otici u Vukovar. No ministar odbrane (ne, nije to tada bio Gojko) poslao me je u Split. Tocnije receno prva moja stanica bile su "Radmanovve Mlinice". Kasnije "Mala Luka / Omis" a poslije toga Dracevac u Splitu. Kad nismo bili na terenu. Kaj se tice rata i pricanja. Djelimicno ste u pravu.
Christianity came to Dalmatia from the very beginning of the apostolic age. Saint Pauls disciple Saint Titus was sent to Salona by Saint Paul, you can read that in New Testament - Epistle to Titus. Greetings from Split.
that is exactly true, Salona was then one of the largest cities in the Mediterranean. Diocletian himself was born in Salona. By his command Saint Dujam was executed in a colosseum in the same Salona, when the remains of the saint Dujam were transferred to the Split Cathedral, the coffin was carried by 6 young boys who were considered to be completely sinless and innocentat, every place where they stopped for a rest from Solin to Split and where they lowered coffin to the ground a chapel was built because it is a holy place...
Hi, if i have 2.5 days in the Split area and have a car, where would you suggest is the best area to stay and what is the best way to spend this time? I want to explore Split, Trogir and Omis. Thank you
