One of my favorite memories of this game was telling my friend to turn all resources and creature spawning to max "for the sake of experimentation". As soon as it loaded in I heard him scream, then he got attacked by 3 spiders and 2 clockwork bishops. It was a magical moment.
Lol love the warning about messing with the spawn settings.. xD I'll never forget the day I thought to myself "hmm.. I mean, I would love to have more than 3-5 walrus camps in the whole world.. maybe I'll just set it to "more" I mean, how much more can there be?" Bad mistake. There was a walrus camp about every 20 feet and come first winter, those blood thirsty hunters amassed an army and turned us into very swift prey! hahahaha Never touching that again lol.
What you needed to do, was ALSO set the clockworks, spiders, and merman settings to high. That would have meant the Walruses couldn't hunt you because they were too busy trying to survive.
I remember when I thought "well, why do these giants take so long to spawn? What if I set their spawn rate to lots?" Basically I died to a Goose/Moose at day 2 on *autumn*
@@TBlackySetting something to more than default can cause mobs or resources to spawn out of their biome or season. I set the evergreens to "lots" and they even grow on the savannah. Also happens with enemies, had a friend killed by a deerclops on summer
I learned very quickly how bad it can be to set things to 'lots', when I first started playing I thought having lots of tumbleweeds would be a fun idea... My friend and I got all the way to summer (didn't know about wildfires/ice flingomatics) and we had one tumbleweed catch on fire and it just immediately set fire to everything in our base. It was pretty hilarious
Having troubles getting gears in the world.. I decided to put clockworks on more. Little did I know every inch of the world would be totally and utterly filled with them! Talk about broken!
A little PSA since Beard just scratched the surface of it: If you set ANY resource to more/lots (grass, twigs, cactus, i believe only Flint is not affected by this since it already spawns pretty much anywhere) will make world generation go completely bonkers, and you may end up with some stupid/funny things, like Tumbleweeds in the middle of the forest, alongside some cacti from both types, i think you get the general idea here, it might be funny, or it may simply ruin your experience, depends on how are you feeling that day, want world gen to go nuts? have fun messing with these, otherwise i'd just stick to the basics and maybe put more Flint only, since from my testing seems to be the resource that breaks the game the least since it can already spawn anywhere it damn pleases
Finally, the one thing me and my friend have been wanting to know. what setting creates the best kind of world we have once had. with the branches and loops generation settings. We never knew what caused it to be perfect. (We hate running distances and the worlds that turn into never-ending loops.)
Yeah, that's rather annoying. I don't have the technical answer, if there even is one, so all we can do is chalk it up to world generation being wonky sometimes.
I always assumed there was an option to affect how dark it is in the caves, but I might be misremembering it because of mods/how much it the lighting changes through the day in the caves
In wildernesses mode does the florid postern in the caves also get removed ? And what's the use for a florid postern in the caves anyways Well you can respawn on it in endless mode and make another celestial portal with it but only that
I play on console, and for some reason, I can't turn any of the settings up to more or lots. This wasn't really much of a problem, except being slightly annoying for tree guard spawns.
I sometimes just disable disease and wildfires Y'know those two settings are pretty annyoing and only in the game to destroy useful plants and forests in summer >:/ Edit: I have a world right now with disease and fildfires enabled so I guess ill better change the word always and swap it out with sometimes xD
I forgot what the thing is called but I think the the map marker that you can craft in magic tab is for wilderness mode so you will also know the locations of things despite death
6:16 yeah this is best bc it makes it where u can make your base at center and then u could go a direction and go to a specific biom bc when it branches it sometimes has one biom or 2 on that branch so u can go to a specific branch to a biom on that branch
@@TheBeard777 I always play with default. In my experience it seems like the world picks one of the two for each alternative resource (normal bushes or juicy / twiggys or saplings). However, there always seems to be grass AND gekkos, and even if you get sapplings twiggy's eventually show up later (I pressume through regrowth?)
Oh, that one time I got angry that I didn't have any Walrus Camps so I just made a new world and increased walrus camps just once. Just once! What do you think happened? Walrus camps every two steps -_- I don't think I've had a worse winter than that...
i am so stupid!!! When i make my world in DST i never touch settings at all and then i'm wondering why can't i find any sinkholes. Now i fell like a complete idiot.
If you set the creature settings for opposing factions too high the race war starts as soon as you show up. They don't fight if you're too far away due to data limitations. So you can always pick up the loot that left afterward. Assuming you don't die in the crossfire.
I once set my world to "more" mechs so I could get a few extra gears as WX-78 and jump start my early game. I figured normally I'm lucky to find 6 mechs total on the surface so how many could they really add? Turns out, hundreds. I gave up on the world as too OP. I had a maxed out WX on like day 7, with stacks of gears laying around. It's not like 20% more whatever, it's more like, there will be at least one of these everytime you pan to a new screen.
Quick question I’m a beginner and I’m trying to higher the amount of all the good things like rocks and trees and such but it’s not letting me anyone please help
I'll be honest never really tried messing with too many world settings, but those world gen options are very interesting, gonna have to give some world crafting a try :P
Can you recommend any settings (besides disease) that should just be turned off or set to low/less to prevent the world from becoming overpopulated and crashing? I'm still trying to find the perfect World Gen settings so that I can have a server to share with friends that won't crash and refuse to run around day 40. I'm already trying to cut back on the mods and only have the essentials installed to help me build a base before inviting friends in and some to add more content to make things better once they do come in, but I think my worlds (even with mods at a minimum) are just getting too overpopulated and complex to survive past day 40...
Can you do an updated guide about every single setting with all the recent updates? I want to know how to stop trees from growing but keep resources like grass, berries and twigs to continue to grow Thanks!
You mean you don't want more trees spawning after you chop them down? That would all be related to World Regrowth Settings. Turn it off for trees but keep everything else the same.
Question, how do I turn off hostile shadows and Charlie attacks?? I was able to in the original dont starve and on the ps4 don’t starve together, but I don’t know how to on the computer
5:36 Can someone tell me how to make 2 columns like here? I have 3 columns and the font is smaller. It's annoying. How to change it? Where is the location of this file and how to find it?
I set mactusk to lots in solo rog, and then proceeded to get a tusk first kill... What else are tusks for? I got a walking cane already. Now i just farm them for darts, meat, tam hats, and blue gems.... But my tusk pile is growing.
now I want a world that is a giant loop with the lunar island in the middle. Also what do you use/do to insta-reveal entire map for the purposes of showing us various maps in these videos?
Could you do a guide on the main mechanical differences between DST and RoG? There’s a lot of differences between the two such as, 1. You can overheat in caves in RoG but not in DST 2. Seasonal bosses have double health in DST 3. Dragonfly is replaced by Antlion as the summer boss in DST 4. Ruins are in the same level as the caves in DST instead of at a 3rd level like in RoG These differences, while seemingly small, can go unnoticed by players since they would do things like avoiding cave basing in summer since they still think that their buildings will smolder.
beard how did you get that season chart and the temp chart is that a mod or only on pc and on DST i cant change any mob higher then default is that only on pc as well i have just started playing and i hope this is not to much to ask
To add onto the wilderness gamemode: You will also lose your day count and all of your crafting recipes including special ones like mushlights, scaled chests, bundlewrap, etc so BE CAREFUL.
