1) Crockpot foods used to give more hunger than normal but that seems to have changed. 2) Attacking a beefalo during domestication will have it lose 30% so not good. 3) Overfeeding also drops a beefalo's obedience by 30% 4) Attacking or shaving it will decrease it by 100% and anything else hitting it drops it by 1% each 5) Yes, you can pick stuff from the back of a beefalo DO I NEED TO CONTINUE TO RIDE AND FEED IT AFTER 100% DOMESTICATION? Yes, but barely, especially nowadays. Don't even worry about it, it's why we don't even talk about it here. Why not mention these in the video? Well, cause you shouldn't be doing more than half of this anyways! :D
@@eduarddumitru2645 Only in combat while riding the beefalo give you ornery tendency, but it's ok because you can always switch between tendency if you perform enough action to raise the other tendency which will return you back to default tendency and then switch whatever tendency you prefer to have.
@@darkmoon4135 as far as I know, taking damage while riding increases the ornery tendency as well, not only dealing dmg, meaning picking cactus and spiky should increase it, but I am unable to test if this is true
I feel like fully domesticated beefalos should have their own stat trackers when your riding them, there's no client sided mod for this so when your playing on public its not really an option. I like knowing the health of my ornery beefalo for combat reasons naturally.
Thank you for this guide. I’m a big fan of beefalo and having a pet beef would be great. Side Note: Great job naming the example beefalo. If I read correctly, you named it Beeftholomew. :) See for yourself: 3:34
Damn,i just remembered my first time with ds , and wishing i could play with another player, and a desire for the game to become great, which it did and im glad for it :) even tho im a casual player and still a noob,i enjoy this game on so many levels ,mostly playing webber
Sometimes I forget about this channel for like a month and then I come back and it's unbelievable the amount of content that has come out thanks again Beardo.
What mods do you use? I just want to know the thing that tells you all of the stats about everything in the game, thats the only one i dont recognize Edit: Insight
in short, yes its worth it -Profesional Beefalo Tamer PD: i just call myself "profesional beefalo tamer" because i started taming them from far before the year of the beefalo update lol
Hey Beard! Simple questions; How can you tell if the beefalo is tamed? It hasn't been 20 days, but I have one with a rider tendency. Also, what takes precedence, a beefalo bell or a salt lick?
If you're nearby them when it happens they poof in this whole animation thing and it's meant to indicate that they are groomed now. They should have better looking fur than a non-domesticated beefalo. And I am pretty certain a bell is higher on the priority list, yes.
Thanks for the guide Beard! Just wanted to ask (anyone here really if they know the answer) - does riding a beefalo whilst it's well fed (hunger > 0) produce a higher rate of domestication than just having a well fed beefalo without riding it/riding the beefalo whilst it's hunger is 0? I hope that makes sense..
One does not help the other naturally however doing both is still going to happen in natural gameplay regardless. There will be times where you are not doing one or doing one over the other. Hence why I say just do both regardless.
Specific question about Salt Licks - please help I understand Salt Licks, in that they are supposed to prevent Domestication level from dropping while you aren’t riding / feeding the beefalo, however I’m trying to understand the specificities a bit more, and would love some help. - Does the beefalo use the salt lick while the player is multiple screens away? - Does the beefalo need to be penned with the salt lick to ensure it doesn’t walk too far away? Or can I just place the beefalo bell on the ground next to the Salt Lick? - Does the beefalo “use” the salt lick if it’s sleeping? - Do beefalo’s sleep if they’re left idle in the caves? Basically, I want to start taming a beefalo immediately on a new server, but since I’m playing Wanda, I need to go to the archives at some point and mine/hammer a lot, so I’m hoping to be able to leave the beefalo at the archives entrance by a salt lick while I clear the archives. Basically I don’t want to lose Domestication while I take care of this necessary task. Is this viable?
Yes No and Yes Not that I know of Yes as night cycles still count down in the caves Also, Klei slowed the timers down on lost domestication anyways just for this reason so you don't have to stress as much as you used to.
Does anyone know why I can't go with my tamed beefalo in the caves? Does anything change when this video was done? He is 70% tamed, and I have the Beefalo's bell, but he doesn't follow me when I enter the cave.
Riding will get the job done alone if you do it often enough although most won't so that's why I tend to feed them a bit every time I get bucked off or climb off myself (besides, you have to keep their obedience up anyways) but yes, it's a process that you need to maintain consistently. Perhaps not as consistently as it once was but it'll take time.
I am on xbox and numbers don’t show like PC players for things. Unless there is a way to see numbers-status on xbox I don’t know about. Know anything about that? Can you help.
Remember when I said to pay attention to when a beefalo is begging for food or not? That is one the only ways to have any idea where anything is going unfortunately. Keep it up though, domestication loss is so slow now that you would really have to neglect them to ruin it.
My last beef I literally said screw it and destroyed the hound set piece that puts 10-20 caves in the desert and repeatedly killed every tall bird at a tall bird set piece near the rock biome. It was a combat beef until stars around it popped and revealed that a deafult tamed beef. I know I'm messing up but how is beyond me.
Do domesticated beefalo reproduce? How do you take a beefalo to another part of the map and start a new herd there? (Two of the three herds on my map got wiped out, and I'd like to get them back.)
thanks for the vid! Question: what are those machines you are using at 2:05 and 3:05. I'm relatively new to the greater expanse of the game, just sitting here with my alchemy machine wandering what is going on.
I wish they added more visual cues to let me know what state my beefalo is in so I don't have to download mods. I don't know why Klei has so much content that they know the vast majority of players don't use, but they don't see fit to change it at all. They're just an unbelievably incompetent company.
Not nearly as much as before with the hunger but if you want to ride then obedience will matter down the line. Again, not nearly as much as it used to though. The decay is almost non-existent now.
Have the mechanics changed substantially since this video? I don't see any of the taming stats on DST, and have a saddle on that theyve never taken off.. but the duration is so short. Either way thanks for the helpful videos!
You either ride it as often as you can or you make sure not to keep it at 0 hunger for too long. Or some combination of both. That's the simplest explanation.
Damn, I tried so hard to get the ornery beef and insteed got average. And now I'm being I feel attacked after being told just how hard it is to manage failing and getting the standard insteed.
Wait, so, keeping the beefalo hitched to a grooming station stops domestication from decaying, just like the salt lick does? Or is it only to stop the beefalo from roaming?
No, that's why I called them alternatives in theory and not actual alternatives in entirety. It and the bell could simply be used to keep your beefalo planted in one area or even very specific spot to save you some trouble. The salt lick is still what will pause domestication however again, it's not even needed that much anymore.
If the player riding the beefalo takes in warly volt goat jelly or chilli food, the beefalo also gets the dmg buff. So an ornary beefalo with a war saddle and chili volt goat can deal 198 dmg per hit against wet enemy. Garlic buff doesn't apply to beefalo tho so thats a shame.
Yeah, as much as I love the jelly it is still a super, character specific thing that isn't that easy to make so it can be hard to add to things like this. Things that are meant to keep things bare minimum usually. Great call though!
Oh also another tip is you don't get stuck from ewecus while riding a beefalo, essentially meaning you can fight ewecus solo without any followers easily.
Here is the mod i recomend for new players to beefalo taming it tells you all your relevent info steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1852257480 Called beefalo widget.
Hey Beard! Im trying to find the best thing (vegetable wise) to feed a beefalo. I noticed that when you fed the beefalo a carrot opposed to a pumpkin the carrot gave less hunger than the pumpkin (or I did the math wrong). Do you think it's possible that if I were to feed a beefalo 15 corn that I'd be able to keep the beefalo satisfied for that day?
@@TheBeard777 Hey Beard! I tamed my first Beefalo with the rider tendency. I made a war saddle for him but I wanted to see if it's possible to increase his damage output through other means. 41 damage is okay but it would be nice to see if I can have more.
