Bardcore with actual lyrics, not just someone taking the vocal track out of a regular song and shifting instrument trypes around in an audio editor program. This is true bardcore.

Pretty sure those are real instruments too

@@ThePorpoisepower Look, if you're going to call this a genre you need people actually singing the lyrics and not just replacing them with a flute or something. If it's entirely dependent on the audience being already aware of the entire song then the song fails as even a cover. I'm not enough of a purist to insist on live instrumentation all the time, personally; but if you're just shifting an instrumental to outdated instruments then you're doing less work then a garage band or a guy that remixes music. There should be at least some element of novelty in the work.

@@morganrobinson8042 Don't be genre Nazi... j/k... I think there's a difference between good examples of any genre and poor examples. Good examples will generally always display actual skill that may be in represented with real voices or instrumententation. But you could MIDI it up and it still be real bardcore, if you were to change the signature to 6/8 and make a galliard out of it or something like that. I do think we need to celebrate the better representations more than the cheap shots though.

Wait is bardcore even supposed to sound Elizabethan though? To me the lyrics go well with the music, but are they emulating the same culture? Either way, if it comes up when I search bardcore/medieval/tavernwave and I like it, that's usually good enough for me, although I do see how some would need more. It would be different if I was working on a film/documentary/play or if I was learning the music, so if I do something with less effort or just plain different, it's an educated choice.
@moniquesalazar1708

The plain modern English lyrics with bardcore instrumental do sound weird though, less satisfying. The instrumentals are fun to sing to, even if all I have is the modern lyrics.

The initial fad was months ago, now it remains to be seen whether this will translate into a movement with staying power. This is a good indicator though.

What do you call a Tiefling cleric? A Beliefling, of course.... Just a small town priest Newly ordained and quite naive She joined a wagon train goin' anywhere Just a city bard Life on the road can be mighty hard He joined a wagon train goin' anywhere A dungeon lost in smoky gloom Smelt of death and certain doom For a while it would test their might This went on and on and on and on.... Undeadies waiting Up and down the corridors Shadows, skellies and some wights.... Low might, unclear goals Pressing on on sheer devotion They tried the passage on the right..... They had sacks they hoped to fill Treasure always brings a thrill Magic toys would be awful nice Yeah, really fine Will they win? Will they lose? Will the bard die singing the blues? Seems like this dungeon never ends It goes on and on and on and on... Monsters waiting Up and down the corridors All led by someone named 'Bryce' Brief fights, good rolls Nothing left but sheer devotion Will that do? Well it might..... Don't stop, Beliefling Your songs are your holy symbol, yeah Brief fights, dead gnolls.... Don't stop, Beliefling Your songs Brief fights, good rolls.... Don't stop, Beliefling Your songs are your holy symbol, yeah Brief fights, dead gnolls....

If you’re giving a command to someone in Elizabethan English, you don’t use the conjugated form of the verb, but rather the infinitive. So, you wouldn’t say “Holdest to thy feeling,” but simply “Hold to thy feeling”.

Also, English has never, at any point, legitimately used "be" in place of "are" Only ignoramus modern people do that be because they think it sounds more like what a commoner might say

I’m sorry to be nit picky, but so many bardcore covers do this, where they use “didst” just to sound fancy and old fashioned when it really just is an archaic way of saying “you did”. The city knave and village girl *did* take a caravan goin’ anywhere, not *didst*, unless you are directly addressing one of them. If you’re addressing both, it should be *ye took*.
@EstoversMusic

for me bardcore has 3 properties 1/a great modern song 2/a great singer and musical composition 3/historical accuracy (for the given time period and culture) it doesnt have to be perfect, the effort alone is astounding and i loved this and look forward to more!
@danielcrafter9349
@danielcrafter9349 13 дней назад
Yep, everyone gets this wrong The suffix 'st' indicates "is/had" Had'st is therefore "did have" "I Hear'st" would mean "I have heard" Where OP is wrong is that "did'st" means "did have" You can't "did have take a caravan" - but you can "did take a caravan"
