Went to a popular skate park the other day and there were some kids on scooters. Tried to wait for them to take their turn on the tiny drop in, but they went down the ramp and sat at the bottom in their scooters watching me. Their parents stared at me and they all left within a couple minutes. I think some people think of them as playgrounds, idk.
@@mx_nana_banana I didnt care to be honest, was just a weird interaction and it kinda felt like they were almost upset with me for wanting to skate there. Wouldn't say they were selfish though as they did leave pretty quick. Woulda been happy to just let them have their turns on the vert ramp, but I just got stared at and then they left. I was just trynna learn how to drop in :')
Unfortunately this is my local skatepark, I live around the corner. If you go early in the morning nobody is watching the park. I’m there usually around 9am and never have any issues. The park staff rotates over the days I’m assuming because nobody wants to watch the skatepark. There has been tons of conflict from locals with the park staff and almost even a few fights. I would love to see you try to skate it, It truly has no flow.
Absolutely wild, y’all have no idea how many generations of skaters it harbored. This was also one of the only places that skaters and scooters kinda got along when the Scooter thing popped off. To say this park has no flow is a pretty big claim. It’s literally one big oval. The park was a transition heavy build with big street features. If you only skated street you either hated this park or this was the park that taught you about transition. The big quarter pipe in the middle that leads to a fence, one of the only places in the park with metal coping. I will give you that I too thought it made no sense but when the truth revels it’s self, and it will to anyone, it’s both the most fun transfer and the most fucked rollin. Over all easily the beast features are the trees that over hang the fences and the concrete coping. Long live Culver Skate Park.
This is why I like desert west skatepark in phoenix arizona . You just go and skate you don’t have to wear a helmet or pads and nobody is there supervising
This park had no pads required back in the day. It was full skaters of all skill levels. Such a fun place to hang out. Whoever was out in charge of this should be fired instantly. They added all the rules, now it’s a deserted waste of space and money. What a shame.
Bro if you ever read this, You should definitely consider taking a trip to Bradenton Riverwalk Skatepark built by TeamPain. You'll also get the chance (if you haven't already done so) to visit SPOT -Skatepark Of Tampa. Stay dope!! Ocala FL.
Looks cool, for an adult skatepark.👍🏼 However, I’m 100% agreeing what you’re saying about this. Probably ain’t as fun like many skateparks I saw plus my home turf called Ward 3 Recreation! Mine sure was fun to skate but the bowl was deep!
This is my “local” it’s not that great of a park and doesn’t make functional sense. Now if you like pools, our pool is actually really great, but that’s about it and that mega quarter he talks about is actually one of my favorite spots to hit. You have to just come at in a hard angle. Doesn’t mean it’s good, I just had to force myself a way to make it work.
This is my local, they stopped enforcing the helmet and pads thing so much only really on wednesday when they have an event or something ive never seen anybody come and think it was a playground, every one is really respectful and it has a ton of cool stuff, its just not beginner friendly at all i would say out of the 10+ times ive come here there was 1 time where they kicked us out for not having pads, i dont go much anymore becuase its really inconvinient and far away from the school so me and my friends just skate street most of the time. Its not that bad
I went to a park like this in LA. I was visiting from the UK and cycled 50 mins to a park cos it had a nice bowl, only to find basically the same thing as this. It was completely deserted and there was a guy outside who told me I can't go in without full pads and a helmet. I asked if they had any to rent and they didn't. Same thing happened to me in SF funnily enough.
I used to work at the college up the street and passed this park every day. Never once stopped to skate it. They probably wouldn’t let me in anyways haha
There’s one in Ocean City New Jersey like that as well. The park looks sick but when I drove an hour to get there they wouldn’t let me without knee pads, elbow pads, and a helmet which is rediculous. I hope 0 people ever go
i think it’s alright to bring kids to a skatepark as long as they understand basic skate etiquette and their parents teach them what to do. kids that think of it as a play park and sit on ramps and run around should either be taught the right way to act or not go
@@avistryfe4534 yeah, as long as they realise when they are in the wrong and don’t refuse to move when politely asked. there are situations where it would be plain rude to sit on a ramp. Especially if it stops someone going down the ramp intentionally to ruin their day then that would be taking it a bit far. but if they are out the way and it’s not too busy, i guess it’s free for all and there’s not a way to stop them. i completely understand your point haha
You should’ve threw your phone on memo mode and secretly record a conversation with that dude because I don’t understand is he a volunteer because who the fuck would just sit at a table for hours doing nothing is he getting paid?
I used to go there every weekend when I was first learning. I reacently went back to have some fun. The park does have a weird layout though. It's really a hit or miss if the gaurd is there at the park. I also only love about 5 minuets away.
"skate within your skill level" and "wear appropriate protection" signs are all they need to avoid liability. That and the fact that I don't think a single skater has ever tried to sue the city for landing primo off a rail grind
Its not a liability issue. Its a stupid over protective parents rule. Find me a case of a skater successfully suing a city over a skatepark because they got hurt for not wearing pads.
@Tynan Barnes It's to protect from Karens who complain to the city that little Danny tried to kickflip off a 3 stair and whacks his shin. Skaters understand the risks. Parents don't. If they keep making complaints without any changes, it could get the park shut down completely.
Me personally I always wear protective gear I feel that it's the choice of the person who skates. I've fallen and my helmet has saved my skull. I actually wear a helmet to save the skatepark from becoming a extra large sinkhole 🤣
Who is employing that guy to sit there day and night to enforce that silly rule? How much does he get paid to do that? Where do I apply for his job? Would love to just sit there all day and enforce stupid rules on skateboarders
Omg why do cities make rules that have nothing to do with skateboarding. when anybody learns, they usually understand that learning will only come from risk of getting hurt anyways
I wouldint even bother going or talking about a place like that. im a 80s kid and been skating all my life without any kind of protection, even had a picture with Hawk and Glifberg from when i was 11 on the biggest vert in Europe at the time where i at the bottom of the vert then Glifberg and then tony flyin over us in Trasher magazin. I was the proudest lil kid back then ahahaha, and to see these kind of places...yeah they kind of make me sick, cause that takes the whole point of skating away from people. Most of us go in to face those things we fear, and learn to overcome them, and trust me if i take on any kind of protective gear i will get bodied like crazy. i can skate with backpack full and heavy, and with bags no problem! but put a helmet or knee pads on me and you will see me crash 5 meters from start ahahaha, not even joking its soo fucking weird to have on protective gear when u have tought ur self not to need it. plus i also go pretty hard on Aggressive rollerblades, cause man nothing beats doing flips from a bowl an on verts on blades. not even a board can fill that part of life for me besides them rollerblades ahahah
Are skaters really that butthurt about wearing pads? I mean I don't wear them personally but it seems wild to not skate a fun looking park sometimes just because of some pads lol
@@skatetheorist what is worse is building a public park worth hundreds of thousands of dollars that will not get used because you are enforcing pads at a public park. Been skating for 20 years and if my local park had those rules I would drive to the next city 10 times out of 10.
lately there’s a surge of brief, deficient content, either a whopping under a minute short, or just longer but never over 6-8 mins, length is better, make a point don’t point out that there’s nothing memorable about a short and sweet video.... unless it’s funny af
I hate to say it I bet skaters harassing the workers will make them stop coming. Give them what the asked for if they believe that there needs to be enforcement that bad at the skatepark give them a reason too
I dont care what anybodys saying but a 3 year old with strider push bike shouldnt be allowed in skateparks no matter how many people aksating or what time it is. and to make an exception is always a bad idea. people gonna come over with there kids and say "ohhh but 3 days ago this kid was allowed to play over here"
"Children using it to do stunts" 😅 That's hilarious........ "Hey mom, look at this new sKaTe StUnT I learned!" Well thinking about it now, I guess mega ramp tricks could be considered stunts. And if you're managing to get over that orange sign, with the obstacles in that Park, I guess it also could arguably be called a stunt, lol... 🖤🛹🤙✌
