As a Vet and Defense Plant Retiree, talking to current Active Military our future seems lost. We are riding on a good pile of mil spec supplies but the clock is ticking and in a war it would be too little too late. DEI has destroyed our Military and Def Supply chain. It's been purposely destroyed. Pray for our nation.

I am almost 80 I am retired from law I have two sons that are veterans. My whole family says that the United States is in the worst condition it’s ever been in especially my boys who served overseas. It is estimated that the Biden Harris administration has spent nearly $1 trillion by the end of this year on illegal immigration. If we had taken that money and put it into our defense system, it would be much more secure than it is now. I don’t know where the priorities are with his Biden administration but I will tell you one thing, they put our national security at risk. These Chinese have come over illegally into the United States do you think they’re here for their advancement and they’re making a better life, no I do believe wholeheartedly that they are a sleeper cell or so, ready to be activated at a moments notice. The Biden administration has put the American people into Dire Straits.

More emphasis on 'hi-tech' than hands-on basics. I've got a nephew nearing the end of his mechanical engineering program and he doesn't know squat about front-line stuff like machining &fabrication of metals, plastics, woods, or other materials. He's great with computers and CAD and math, but really lacking in actual front-line fabrication of stuff. Its what Mr. Forbes mentions in that 'lack of skills' that disappeared as the USA went to a service economy in the last 40 years.

How many people receive unemployment? Give them these necessary jobs and Train them. I'm a 72 year old handicapped MARINE. Can't walk train me and other older veterans train them. Women did a ll this during ww2. High school graduates can learn many of these jobs also. Stop saying we can't but we can and we are. That's what happened before ww2 . Go on a warranting now. Cut social programs move to war footing now!!!!

Somewhat correct in my view from the Vietnam War forward. A lot of emphasis was put on hi-tech weapons expansion during the Cold War/Reagan years, including consolidation of manufacturers so they got bigger and bigger. That further contracted during the last 30 years (Repub and Dem administrations both guilty), which included basics like artillery pieces and shells. The Ukraine conflict has had the bonus of getting those newer systems out on an actual battlefield to see how they work under battlefield conditions and how fast you could train troops to use them. As for the Russian war machine you also have to look at the number of men they are conscripting with minimal training and that they are pulling some very old equipment out of 'mothballing' for quickie rehabs and then deployment with the new and reluctant recruits (not a good idea).
