Thank you for posting this video. Most people don't think about getting sick while cruising. Glade you two are alright. Maybe when you two are back to full health you could do a video about what to do when you get sick onboard. And talk a little about solo vs couples getting sick onboard.
Thank you for sharing this. If I haven't put it in another comment, I really appreciate the dates on the videos. They add a lot to the overall story that you're telling. Stay well.
Glad to see you made it through. My wife got it, maybe last year, and she was in a rough state. One of my daughters got it more recently and wasn't as bad. I never tested myself but if I had it when wife or daughter got it, it was just a mild cold with some coughing. Doesn't matter what it is, it just sucks being sick. You may be negative now, but you still need to rest up and continue recovery. Take it easy, take care.
Ha! Sail to Ireland and get Covid is probably not the promo they want. 😂I'm sorry to hear that you had it as well. Yes, we're feeling better and are about to get another booster, so that should be good. And very much hoping not to repeat that! Hope you both are well! -Mo
@@drakeParagonThanks, Mo. Definitely not the sort of promo Ireland welcomes. Covid was EVERYWHERE, and is still (2024) breaking out here and there. Glad you’re feeling better.
I thought about you all when the whole covid outbreak started and wondered how it'd be. I'm glad you made it through it! I'm still catching up on your journey, but your videos are simply the best.
Thank you so much! If you haven’t seen it, we also published this video I really time while we were under a Covid lockdown in the outer Hebrides of Scotland.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nkIsRauBq68.htmlsi=m33ruo_tWNAJBuJd
I finally caught it in April of this year, I think when I went to a hardware store that was poorly ventilated and I was starting to get too casual about masking. It was a work trip to our boat in Washington and I woke up in the morning with a scratchy throat I was really suspicious of, and I put on a mask before I even got out of bed, told my brother I had a really bad feeling about this, and he left the boat while I hurriedly packed for the two-day drive back home. Thankfully he didn't get it from me. I had one horrendous night in a hotel on the way home, but I pushed on so that I wouldn't get stuck there. I then quarantined on our boat in California while my wife stayed up at our house in the mountains. It was 19 days till I tested negative, and I stayed two extra days knowing that we would be right next to each other in bed and I didn't want to infect her. I got down to some of the weirdest foods still left on the boat during that quarantine! I wasn't going to go out shopping and infect somebody else.
To be clear, I did actually get one food drop off from a friend toward the end. Still, you can imagine the odd food items lurking deep in the lockers! And yeah, I was "up-to-date" on vaccination, but the current vaccines don't have sterilizing immunity, and the current variants are highly infectious. You're way less likely to die from it even with a rather stale vaccination. I was only really sick for a couple of days, then really weak for a month or two. I also got shortness of breath which is only 80-90% recovered now, 9 months later. I have a couple of moderate risk factors, and had it bad enough the first time that I do still mask in high risk areas - often I'm the only one doing so, but that's what my risk assessment says to do.
Thank you. Were just kept saying how lucky we were to be in a harbour that had a marina that we could both fit into and was safe in most conditions. Our plan had been to continue on south along the west coast of Ireland, and the next several stops would have left us in extremely exposed anchorages. Not happy we got Covid, but we were lucky to get it where we did. 😊 -Mo
Glad you folks are on the mend. This video is very timely as my wife and I are just testing negative from covid after 15 days of positive results but still have symptoms. We managed to avoid Covid for almost 4 years now, even have all our shots but it caught us now. Covid really sucks, take care.
They own the SCIENCE, MEDIA, JUDICIAL, EDUCATION SYSTEM, PRESIDENCY and MEDICAL. With that much control..... we should be #1 leading the world since March of 2020 when Fauci said, “If you look at the curves of outbreaks, they go big peaks, and then come down. What we need to do is flatten that down,” Anthony Fauci @@chrismostert4394
OMG so sorry you two caught covid. I cannot imagine going through that. My daughter caught it and lost sense of smell. She is ok of course; however my ex-wife and her husband caught it around 2 years ago and he passed away from it. It is a horrible thing to go through.God Bless you and keep you safe. I have been lucky not to get it and I don't think I would make it because of underlying health issues.
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your ex-wife's husband. That must have been incredibly hard. We were extremely careful for many reasons and very much did not want to get Covid, but it can be so difficult especially as cruisers. At a certain point visas run out and we have to get on the move, and that involves a lot of interactions with people. Take care of yourself and I hope you continue to avoid this. -Mo
Glad you're better now. Covid sucks. I got it when it first hit the states. Lost my taste and smell for 2 weeks and I was 150 miles offshore when I realized I had it. I run a commercial fishing boat so I suffered through the 10 day trip and most likely got it from my crew who didn't social distance by any means( they are all in their 20's and invincible apparently). I got double vaccinated almost a year later when the vaccine came out and then caught the DELTA variant and then Omicron a few months after, but at that point I didn't even know I had it if my daughter didn't test positive I would've just thought I had a cold. I had so many antibodies at that point I would jokingly tell my wife I can see them when I pee and maybe we should see if Pfizer wants to buy some!
I'm so glad you two are feeling better and you had each other to help out each other. In the last three years I never caught it although there were a couple times I had a low fever and felt something coming on, I think I was really lucky plus I lived like a hermit and didn't go anywhere. Most people couldn't do that. One thing that might have helped me was when I went somewhere and was around a large number of people when I came home I used Listerine mouthwash and then I used a nasal rinse with half a teaspoon of baby shampoo and squirted it up my nasal passages. Apparently, the virus enters the upper respiratory system through entryways in the mouth to a large extent. so according to some people brushing our teeth and mouthwash was supposed to help a lot. But who really knows. I also started taking a lot of vitamin D and K to raise my D levels, but I imagine you guys have pretty good vitamin D from being out in the sun. On the good side, both of you should have a lot stronger immune system against the virus in the future. Better days ahead
Hi paragon .A question about the hydro-vane .Do you recommend it? Is it fantastic ? Or just useful if the autopilot conks out? If you guys have the time, id love to hear your thoughts on it.
Good to hear you got over it unlike Patrick. I have had it twice. First time it knocked me flat similar to you and I was abed for a week. Don’t know about you but I now have a wheeze in full expiration which wasn’t there before getting Covid…. I went through the Pandemic in Vietnam and it killed a lot of people there including some people I knew personally. It was no joke for me even after 3 vaccinations.
Thank you, we were incredibly lucky to be in a place where we could move into a safe marina. If we had to get Covid then I am so glad we got it where we were. There are so many places along the west cost of Ireland that would have left us in an extremely exposed position, and it would have been hard to get to safely get to a protected anchorage. Small blessings I suppose. -Mo
So lucky you got it once you got to your destination imagine having it and having to still sail . Glad you survived the dreaded covid very much like a sever flu 😷.
I was positive for 14 days but had to keep working as a pilot as we were in a remote part of the world. 6 weeks later, I still have a dry cough and low energy. It is a terrible virus. Sorry you had to go through it.
Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that. Ugh, I cannot imagine having to work while being that sick. Yes, after we both tested negative the continued low energy was pretty shocking. We did an overnight sail several weeks after and it wiped us both out in a way that was very unlike anything we had felt. I hope you get to feeling better soon and take care of yourself. -Mo
Sorry you had such a rough time with it? Out of curiosity, have you had an updated vaccine? I had my last one a couple of months ago and I'm currently down with Covid. Two rough days but I am starting to feel a little better.
Glad you are better. Covid is no fun, and it can have some longer term affects in terms of getting ones energy back. You state that you are replacing your current vane with a Hydrovane. What do you have now and why are your replacing it?
glad your feeling better mate, moving forward all you gotta do is sterilize your hands. My wife also likes to wash all our groceries too but i think thats a bit over the top. Im surprised covid is still a thing thought we sorted it already with all the lockdowns and such
Several news outlets published an article over 18 months ago about COVID. Try searching with the phrase: Most COVID transmission is still asymptomatic.
I attempted to reply to the comment on my previous comment, but three times my reply was deleted. This time I posted the title of the article rather than a link. As almost every, if not every, variant has been more infectious than previous variants, it is reasonable to conclude the numbers of those who are asymptomatic would also go up.
Oops I just saw the rest of the video, frankly I knew you were going to catch it, and I’m very happy you came out ok, unfortunately it seems like a horrible rite of passage for living in today’s world
About 10 months ago I'm pretty sure I got covid, it felt like a really bad cold, like a different kind of cold. The worst was the first 3 days, headache, nasal stuff up and weak, after day 7 was back to near 100% Like you, I dodged covid for a few years, at least we didn't get the original Delta strain
Oh, I am so glad I didn't have the headache because I heard it was awful! Someone I know had a headache for over a week and said it was the absolute worst they have felt. Bleh! Yes, I'm glad we managed to avoid it for as long as we did, and I'm hoping that we don't have to go through that again. We actually getting boosted again next week which is good. Nasty business. -Mo
Cold air reduces the number of immune mediators in your nose, when I’m out in the cold air I try to breathe through my mouth, preserving my nose defenses,
Hey guys, it's Christina. We all had COVID in our family, I had it twice (both strains) and we had the vaccine (which also almost killed me.) So glad you guys are ok and can't wait for the videos to start from Morocco. 🎅🌲😀
With the current COVID variants, more than 70% of those infected stay asymptomatic. For many folks who catch COVID it can be two, or more, months before their energy fully recovers, so be careful not to overdo it! All the best!
Dude! Yeah, I got covid for the 2nd time this year. Sounds like even though north and south hemesphere ought to be 6 months apart, my 2nd time was so so much worse than the 1st. I describe it as in the body? Being rolled down a medium size cliff with big boulders to bounce off. That was the good news. The head "effect" was what I imagine having an axe buried in it feels like. .....If I'd known the benefits of 2 paracietamol and 2 ibuprofen would be, I'd have dragged myself out of bed to the tallboy drawer and scoffed them days earlier. Oh the joy of no longer being unable to sleep because every surface of my body could not take the pressure!!!! My apocolypse kit now contains a month worth of both per persona!!
Later I went to a thanksgiving dinner and got it, that was delta, I literally almost died from that thing , had every symptom, sats of 82%, lost 35 lbs, hallucinations, nausea from hell, and then coughing for a straight month without stopping, refused EMS twice, etc. there’s a big variability in how this effects people, and I would say don’t forget eye protection in addition to the N95,
Dude, don't just wear a mask - wear an N95! There's not enough people wearing masks for it to work, otherwise. When that titlecard said "17 days" I had to go back and check. I let out an "aw, buddy!" just so empathetic for you two. I had covid bad like that back in March and I've had some long symptoms, too. Watch out for over-exertion, because I've been bed-ridden for days after just 1 or 2 long days. I lost part of my beard and it's just starting to come back now. I hope you both get away without any long-term symptoms!
We did have the vaccine plus three boosters, and we're about to get our fourth booster next week. I'm hoping that protected us at least a bit and lessened the severity of our time being sick. We also still mask, especially in crowded places or when traveling, and I'm very much hoping we don't get this again. -Mo
