This is why my cameras are all outside. The inside ones are powered off (physically) unless we are away. It’s also why the cameras and all IOT devices live on a separate wifi network. Since my routers support multiple networks it’s super easy to do and worth it.

Use wired camera systems, and don't run the cables outside, like down a wall. [Or mount them inside a conduit]. It is also almost a law that the easier it is to set up and use a device, the easier it is to hack.

Other suggestions from my side as extra precautions: 1. Don't put cameras in sensitive areas where someone is sleeping or changing clothes and in bathroom. Indoor camera in kitchen or hallway is ok, unless, nobody is doing strange things there. 2. Create subnet with different IP subnet for camera network with separate, cascading router for it, if going cheep way. To get to camera network, hacker first need to hack main router, then needs to guess what listed device may be second router and then needs to hack it to get to camera system or NVR.. 😂 Yeah, hiding or changing device default names is always great suggestion, including, default passwords and default admin names.. 👍
@FruityHachi

it's mind-boggling to me why would anyone want indoors cameras where someone is sleeping or changing clothes or in bathroom if you don't need a camera in a public bathroom and wouldn't want to find one in a hotel room you stay, then why put them indoors in your own home and essentially rob yourself of any remaining privacy?

Thanks, Liron. We don't have a security camera -- yet. And I ran my modem and router passwords against a password "strength" checker to be sure that they are "strong" and don't give away who we are. I have outside cameras and have taken the device admin steps you mentioned. I am really not concerned about the camera being hacked because they are outside and can see what anyone outside can see. When on trips I do activate inside cameras that view the paths to doors primarily and inside the garage. It is always good to anticipate risks. The worse smart products are the smart locks. The smart locks focus on tech but always have backup access with horribly weak locks. It's not smart to buy a smart lock. Giving access to exterior doors is a higher risk than cameras.

Its a crime in most developed countries to obtain access to a computer system without authorization. Its also a crime to instruct another person how to commit a crime. So! Two crimes in one video!!!

That is why my security camera system is all hard wired and DVR is not connected to the internet. At all. Completely Stand Alone. DVR has a relay contact output that goes to separate phone dialed to notify me of any camera alarm condition sending preprogrammed text of DVR camera in alarm condition. I’m home almost 24/7 so no need to view remotely. Just as a fire alarm system monitoring company notifications of alarm condition with fire alarm panel in alarm/trouble condition would notify you of problem with fire alarm system panel. Up to you to find out what the alarm condition actually is and take care of the problem in person not remotely. People put themselves in trouble all the time with internet WiFi. What if someone Cuts your internet connection or someone crashes into a pole knocking out internet to you. Or you loose power and the modem drops out?? Your wide open for invasion cause loss of internet, of cameras hence loss of notification. That’s just dumb to me and wasting all your investment. Ring is the worst of them all. Convenient but bad idea

The couple are elderly and havent touched their WiFi since their son installed it for them them mayb years ago. Why is it so difficulty to belvie that not everyone is a technology nutter and must have the latest iPhone? Also, I really don't give a single shit if you believe me or not. My mission in life isn't to please any self entitled narsassist who thinks their opinion actually matters. K bye

if you don't need it, don't have it. I still use simple light bulbs and have no need for "smart ones" in my home.

Only use hard wired CAMS !😎👍🏻
@LironSegev

much better! Just remember if a wired camera is connected to your network, technically it can still be hacked via the network. So its much better than wifi, but not perfect

deauthing devices to capture handshakes is not difficult. Heck, even a script kiddy with a dolphin can pull it off without putting any effort in.

Today in things that didn't happen: this whole video. You may fool the technologically challenged but there's just no way. Coincidentally using wep, what 10 years after all routers moved from it to wpa? Sure.

I had no idea you knew this 80-year old couple who has lived in the same house for 34 years and had has the same equipment for the last 10 years. wow - what a small world. Either way, if you actually watched the video, I said that a WiFi that uses WPA2 can still be hacked but its more complicated and takes longer. So you can call whatever you want 🤦‍♂️
