I visited this temple yesterday. Collectively this temple houses the largest number of halls, chedis and statues that I know of outside Bangkok excluding ruined temples. It is almost a museum of architectural design and a classic example of Thailand's religious artistic impression. However what bothers me from my travels all over Thailand is the endless quest to encourage merit making on an industrial scale. Late in the afternoon yesterday they were winding down after a grand ceremony as a prelude to opening the main hall. Under the watchful eye of an official a table was stacked high with banknotes. Such devotion is beyong my comprehension. What this temple lacks is historic relevance but artistic impession and religious ferver it has in abundance.
