I know that Stephanie's work is directed to Black women but this old white woman has been following Stephanie's words for years! That is how I ended up moving to Mexico!!!
Your color means nothing to us. My grandfather was from Scotland, grandmother looked like driving with daisy, and she did not like dark skin people, and hated her mulatto son marrying my beautiful birth MOM.
How wonderful! Stephanie is very intentional about the audience she caters to but anyone can benefit from her wisdom and methods. Glad you took that leap. We hope you're loving Mexico!
After working 35 years I was told January 12 would be my last day…Thank You Jesus 🙏🏾 I was given an amazing severance package which would pay out for 2 years and drop me at the door of retirement! Thank You Jesus!!! New subbie.
My mother taught for 35 years, turned 62 in December, died in April of the new year. Only got 3 ss checks. She taught me a lesson she doesn't even know she taught me. I quit my oppressive job 3 years ago and never looked back.
We agree. Cultivating safe spaces for black women is very important. We hope you will consider this a safe space for you to share and be heard. Thanks for commenting!
Huge EYE OPENER! I NEEEEED to follow this because I am soooo tired of this hamster wheel to nowhere. This CAN’T be life! Thank you for such an amazing show! I will have to dig deeper into this to learn how I can, too, start enjoying my life. 💪🏾
Subscribed! Stephanie is one of my she-roes and one of my possibility models. Super Woman cape gone!…Wearing Numerous Hats as an educator gone!…Black Excellence gone!…Black Girl Magic gone! I have normalized “rest” and ensuring that all societal expectations stay gone out of my life . Thanks ladies, for presenting such an important message to Black women everywhere!🤗🌹
I am a nursing Assistant l work 16 hours most days my l am from the island of Grenada l came to the USA 🇺🇸 and need to go home on vacation l have to ask permission it ache my heart ♥️ 😢😢
The blessing JJ-mn8md is that these ideas are universal. We have been programmed to believe there is only one way to live a fulfilling life- not so much. Thanks for tuning in...
Although we are baby boomers, we (as elders) love hearing from the younger generations. Our mission is to impart wisdom, observations and relatable life experiences in a way that may be out of the norm for women of of era. So glad you enjoyed it sis. Please tell your friends about us! We appreciate you.
❤ I’m currently in Iraq, I’m a Federal Government Employee for over 35 years (to include 4 years of Army Service). Now, I’m on a 10 month deployment, over 5 months into it) I’ve been in the war zones 14 times. As of yesterday, I have started what I call “Operation Time to Return HOME”. My health, mental and spirit is breaking day to day. God has shown me that it’s time to leave this toxic job and environment. I can’t see myself completing the 10 months, I am ready to go home to begin LIFE again with family, friends, travel, rest, exercise, fast, all that I dream of when feeling like I’m imprisoned in the deployment position. I’m 55.5 years old and have 60 years in my current position plan to retire. But, I may do it at 58…. We shall see 🙌🏽🙏🏽 Thank you beautiful ladies for your inspiration ❤❤❤
Thank you for your sacrifice and service, Stephanie! Glad you found this conversation and that it made you think about your next steps. Your mental healthy and wellbeing are most important. Wishing you the best as you finish out the second half of your deployment.
Can the Govt pay for your relocation? Maybe it can be a shorter contract in a softer environment. Guam, Japan, etc. Just an idea to defray costs and keep those 💰💰💰 coming in. Lol
New Subscriber!!🎉 Awesome show ladies.❤ I’ve been following Stephanie also for awhile now and she has inspired me to pack up and go.🛩️ I’m leaving Los Angeles and will begin living abroad in April. 🌏
@@blackboomerbestiesfrombrooklyn thank you. First stop is Bali for a couple months, then Portugal, Spain and a few others to see where I want to call home🥰
This was a wonderful interview with Stephanie. As a boomer myself I am stunned by the information you shared from your reading about the effects of racism on our bodies, minds, and spirits. This is so important. Thank you both!
It is important, Mae, you’re right. That’s why speaking the truth about it is needed. Grateful that you took the time to check out our channel. We post at least once a week so please subscribe and click the notification bell to get the latest.❤️👊🏼❤️
RU-vid suggested this video to me, and it was a good choice because I'm also a Black woman from Brooklyn (originally), I love to travel, and I'm an independent thinker. I help seniors navigate the health insurance maze (for a living), so I know all about the high cost of healthcare in this country. I loved every minute of this interview! And when you mentioned Dr. Uche Blackstock, I told my husband, "Oh my gosh! I used to babysit Uche and her sister Oni when they were 6 years old! :D. What a small world.
So glad RU-vid suggested our channel to a fellow Brooklyn girl! ❤️ Thanks for the work you do within the healthcare field. Wow...what a coincidence! Small world indeed. Hope you'll continue to tune in.
Excellent interview ladies!! I love Stephanie & Rashida and they do to empower, encourage & inform Black women. Just discovered your podcast channel - absolutely love it. I will definitely be back for more.
Oh my God, I thought I was liberated, until I listened to this. This is from someone who writes about women getting back to their former powerful self when we when worshipped goddesses and lived in matrilineal societies.
Stephanie gives you truth reality up to you if you want to do a sabbatical or leave work forever and travel home sitting aboard or in USA. I'm 61 retired in December 2023 from job of 23 years CALL CENTER working from home since the pandemic. It became so exhausting there was nothing i needed wanted from them tired of the calls ears started ringing arms hands swelling stomach ache to wake up to alarm clock to login and work was stressful. The culture changed. Not friendly fun. I don't have to worry about PTO. Now, I don't have to worry if I can travel or be off. Freedom I have part-time job that is easy. You select which event you want to work and show up
We're so happy you found a part time job that was less stressful, Deborah. Freedom is a beautiful thing! Thanks for tuning in. Please consider subscribing.
STOP explaining why, we support Black women!!! This World has separated Black women making Us feel that self-care & self-love is for others Not for Us, unless We are providing the care.
Hi, when you have friends or close people and money, you can do those things. Money & being alone is my struggle. While on UTube you are making money. It helps to know people, I’m old now 66yrs.,work part time & still struggling financially.
This video is giving me the courage to quit at 61. My only hurdle is medical insurance; how are women handling medical insurance while staying in the US?
Yes, Nicolette! Weigh your options and go for it. As for insurance, we're not sure, but Stephanie Perry may have more information on her RU-vid page regarding that.
I love Stephanie! So glad to see this interview. Actually miss not the targeted demo and have never seen this channel before but was so excited to see Stephanie, I clicked!
Glad you found the interview and decided to watch! Hope you'll continue to tune in. Our demo is anyone who enjoys good content, adores their bestie and is open to the wisdom of a couple of free-thinking boomers from Brooklyn! 😉
All rooted in capitalism! Thanks for listening and dropping wisdom. We’re dropping part 2 of this interview with Stephanie on Tuesday. Please subscribe if you haven’t already & hit notify to get a reminder.
I feel you! We are so dedicated to our colleagues and our patients that we feel that we are doing them a disservice by leaving (or even taking extended vacations). But the longer I've been in practice (more than 20 years) I'm learning that I need to put my oxygen mask on first. Good luck my friend
Thank you!! Wow. I started independent practice 2004 and so 20 years here as well! I’m an anesthesiologist and decided to dip my foot in via locums; if I’m out for 3 months it’s difficult to obtain hospital credentialing , so I’m cautious to the point of paralysis. Thank you for being a guide. Out of curiosity, are there any black women who focus on physicians who are doing (coast) FIRE?
Hey colleague! I'm an anesthesiologist too! Have you checked out the recent video we posted about anesthesia fears? Here is the post link- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5fblZqKIdBE.html. I think locums is a great option for us as we can easily dip in and out of work between longer gigs. I wasn't aware of the 3 month restriction though- maybe it would help to be out 2.8 months at a time then (LOL). I'm not familiar with FIRE. What is that?
2.8mos😆. I think FIRE was started by hospitalists decades ago to obtain Financial Independence Retirement Early (F.I.R.E.), it’s now in many segments of society. The younger generations have perfected it. They will save up to 70% of their income for 10+ years as early as possible and by any means necessary. They place their savings into any vehicle that has a compounding interest component. If they start at 30 they are done by 40 etc. I have been following it for a bit (not at 70%) but the best explanation I’ve ever seen was from Our Rich Journey. That family has been insanely successful with it. Really really enjoyed this podcast:-) thank you all for doing it.
Rashida was featured on CNBC and retired with close to $1M dollars. Stephanie goes back and forth to her parent’s house when she feels like it. In many ways they’re selling a dream without providing all the details. (This is an FYI for those that don’t know.) You need to plan financially first. Anything is possible with a plan. It may take a year or several to get there.
Good for them! Actually you (Black women) can get all the details and then some from the ExodUS Summit FB group. They’ve created a community of women who live all over the world & everyone shares info. Some have spreadsheets with minutiae others kinda wing it and the stars align. Thanks for stopping by and sharing with others. #eachoneteachone
Hello. I just turned 40 and I'm on the journey to figuring out how to move abroad. Like many others, I need some help learning about jobs available for people whom live abroad. Is there a video I can be directed to to learn more about that? I'm in my mid career and I have tons of transferable skills, but I just don't know what types of jobs allow you to work overseas full-time. Thank you for these videos!!!
Thanks for watching! Congrats on making the decision to live abroad. We'd suggest following Stephanie Perry's channel for additional tips. Best wishes!
quiting a job to go on vacations sounds great but is not practical ...maybe for the 18 year old but for the family man or person ...is not smart in so many ways !
You’re right, everyone has to weigh their responsibilities. What is also true is sometimes we think we can’t /shouldn’t do things without even exploring what may be possible or what is the “cost” of not doing it (emotional, parental or spousal relationships, health). Just my perspective. Really appreciate you sharing yours ❤️
