I still wish more people would mention how big an impact the subtraction of KD from their Western Conference opponents made the playoffs much easier for the Warriors. Before the Warriors had to compete with the Thunder and the Spurs who were both incredibly great teams in 2016. In 2017 there was no competition. KD didn't make the Warriors better, but not having to face KD in the playoffs made things easy for the Warriors. They would have won those 2 championships if they had simply paid KD to go play in China or something...

Honestly Dirk was never in those conversations being real , he was injured a few Seasons , Nash and Finley leaving made him step up but at that time he was battling some real Power Fowards , and they mostly got the better of Dirk on some to Most nights but nobody ever really had him in those convos until around 2009-2010 …. Slightly disagree. Kenny Smith was a key part of those two championship teams in Houston. He was not the bus rider but he was definitely helping to keep the bus in order. He knocked down some clutch 3s (42% regular season; 44% in the playoffs) and had some big games during those championship runs.

So important that he got benched for a rookie during 4th quarter play for the most part of those runs. He did have that one big game against Shaquille’s magic. Game 1.
