One of the few Don Williams songs that I generally dislike. Not only does the song itself not appeal, the hard-driving beat is not Don's traditional method - and that may be why so many people like it. But I much prefer his smoother, more-typical songs like 'Come Early Morning' or my real favoerite, 'Lord Have Mercy On A Country Boy,' which tells the story of my life better than just about any song I've ever hears from major star.
Really fun song...always gets me pumped. But I have to agree with B Williams, its a little out of the wheelhouse for Don W., although he does a great job. I prefer Jason Boland's version, he gives it that Red Dirt rock vibe that really makes the song come alive. Luckenbach yesterday and Tulsa today...you must be channeling into your inner Texoman...and I'm lovin it! :-)
In my younger days, I spent some time as a country DJ, and I remember this was one of the songs that got a lot of air time and requests. Can't hardly go wrong with Don Williams!
marking time right with you, LOL !! I was doing the same thing !! Really enjoy Don Williams music, He's one of those that doesn't come to mind to listen to , until some one plays it , but when you listen, you always enjoy it. Good Mornin Don ! Happy Sat. to you , Take care
Don, you are the man of many hats! I usually wear a ballcap all the time. Good review Don. Mandolin vibe. On the studio version you also hear fiddle & underground pedal steel more prominently.
The best Don Williams song is Ill be Here in the Morning. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZCuPLSN9PBA.html Heres the song so you don't review the wrong one this time!
Another big memory from the 70s thanks . Great song . You should try Lord I hope this day is good and your my best friend by Don Williams another good couple songs from Don .
That used to play every night in the E-club when I was in the Marine Corps. Danny Flowers wrote it and he didn’t regularly go to Oklahoma until he was singing, he’s from Floydada, TX
1969....a group of us in a station wagon stopped in Tulsa and sold plasma to finance the remainder of our journey to san francisco and Haight Asbury....we were dead broke when we crossed the Bay Bridge....never been back to Tulsa
