As Jamaicans, we were on our honeymoon trip in Montreal passing the stadium by car same time as the race ended and heard the attending crowds erupted with huge congratulatory cheers!
What a beautiful sight with the Donsld Quarry and the two Americans holding hands and celebrating. I'm sooooo proud to be a jamaican. " We little but we tallawah ".
Nice to see the good sportsmanship at the end of the race. Silver medalist Millard Hampton went on to run one of the greatest third legs of all time in the 4x100 relay
There was a shared understanding of the times and where we stood on Black issues. Most wouldn't know the levels to US and JA roles in the Black Liberation movement. People were teaching our history at the time and the music reinforced it. Felt the Energy and respect between both athletes, bless
Whenever a Kenyan or Ethiopian wins, if one from either country wins and the others didn't win any medals, they all still take their flags and make a victory lap. I always notice that about those countries in East Africa. Also, they work together in the long distance races, some people might not even take notice. They help their strongest runner to win( not saying everyone should do it). Just something I notice they do.
I was playing a cricket match in St Ann's Bay at the time. I was keeping wicket and heard a loud shout coming from the players in the pavilion that evening(they were listening to the radio, as the race got underway and ended). I'll always remember the moment.
Wow, it's so interesting seeing the difference between then and even 20 years later. So much less hype and ego. Dude barely celebrated when he won, and the crowd seems pretty calm. Even the way they are running after the race seems more chilled!
in effetti la sua partecipazione rimase dubbia fino al'ultimo, per un problema persistente alla schiena. Un vero peccato, se fosse stato al meglio e con una corsia migliore l'esito della gara sarebbe stato certamente esaltante...
@@seanrichards5626i do not agree. 20.24 is disappointing ( was that great night). Pietro Mennea had run 3 times sub 20.20 in 1976 spring. Of course, his 19.72 in Mexico is not his real value. Even Robertson broke an incredible time that day.
