Donald Tusk has been sworn in as Poland's new prime minister, ending 8 years of nationalist rule. He has taken office nearly two months after a national election that was won by a coalition of parties ranging from left-wing to moderate conservative. Tusk is the former president of the European Council, and his return to power is seen as a step forward for Polish democracy. He has vowed to restore the country's position in the EU, and is a strong backer of Ukraine.

It has been said that Poland is more Catholic than the Pope. The Catholic Church in Poland has played a major role in Polish politics since Christianity came to this Slavic nation. Being Polish is being Catholic and to many inseparable. The Catholic Church in Poland was the strength of the people against communism, during the many years of dominance of communism in Poland, the Catholic Church stood strong as the defender of every Polish citizen and many credit this alliance between the people of Poland and the Catholic Church as the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe. I'm certain that there will be a lot of "friction'' between the more liberal Tusk and the Catholic hierarchy in Poland.

A country should have the ability to decide who can come and live in that country, and disallow those arriving without prior permission. All political parties must understand that immigration is a big issue that many people, even the moderate left, want addressed. If it is not addressed people will look to the far right for action.

@@razor15593The coalitions seems to be going strong and they're certainly acting as if they're of a single mind when it comes to returning the rule of law and democratic principles to the Republic of Poland. The speed of real positive change has been astonishing given just the couple days that passed. Two of the biggest political groups are on very friendly terms indeed, their leaders are personal friends too, and their basic worldviews and policies are similar in more ways than one.

Thats good, it was getting tiresome to constantly having to listen to the PiS's vitriol 😮‍💨🙄... I mean, okay, aside from maybe Russia and Brussels from time to time, Germany is your favourite clutch and enemy in politics, I get that. But these constant attacks, high and low blows, just get really old and annoying after a while. I hope Poland will stay far away from this criminal country. I really like the people of Israel, I've been in Tel Aviv for a while, but the politics are horrible. This is such great news! A Free & democratic Poland is a free and democratic Europe. 😍 Incredible that the voter turnout in the recent Polish election was higher than the 1st free elections after communism in 1989.
