Donald Wilkins, the founder of the Pittsburgh Oratorio Society, speaks with WQEDFM's Jim Cunningham about the history of the ensemble on their 25th anniversary. Don describes his work with teacher Nadia Boulanger and with the former music director of the Pittsburgh Symphony, William Steinberg. Don brought Nadia to Pittsburgh where she made a visit to WQED's studios. Don was the organist and choir master for 42 years at Calvary Episcopal Church in Pittsburgh. He was remembered as someone who "exuded music from every pore" when he died in 2014 at age 89. He was professor emeritas at Carnegie Mellon University, his alma mater. He had studied in France where he met his wife Colette becoming a flawless speaker of French and francophile.
