As heartbreaking as this scene was, it was nice to see cliff finally find peace. The touching part is cliff’s primary goal since season 2 has been to be there for Rory and while he doesn’t get to be there physically, his peek into the future showed that the car stays with Rory for his entire life, so in a bittersweet way part of cliff does get to be there for him just like he always wanted.
Very rarely do we get an actual ending to a super hero series and I’m glad it ended on a bittersweet note. Fits for the series. I was in tears seeing this and it goes to show how well written all the characters were.
Same here, been a fan of the show since the very first episode.. Seeing them all go out on their own terms with cliff being the one that broke me was a great final touch, would've been cool if there was 1 more scene at the end where the entire cast did a thank you to everybody who watched the show.. Kinda like what they did after the ending of Supernatural.
@@A-Muse-U Perhaps yeah, the way it was done now is more symbolic. Show starts off with Cliff and his problems and pretty much ends with cliff getting the good (And sad) ending at the same time.. That he redeemed himself, is with his family and got to see his kid grow up in a flash before passing away.. All 3 of them (Cliff/Larry/Rita) ended up getting a happy going or afterlife, even though Rita's death itself was a bit "off".
I felt it was rushed, when they did half of the final season, to scrap plans, and rush the planned ending forward, as the Doom Patrol in the comics are suppose to die in the first run of the comics, I wanted to see this show continue, but all i can is curse David Zaslav for pulling the plug on a beloved show that was one of the most entertaining and will be emulated but never duplicated, the Doom Patrol.
Leaving tons of WTF moments aside, this is hands down, one of DC's best series for me. It's like DC's X-Men with issues. Who knows that Brendan Fraser nailed his role as well as the ex-James Bonds like Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulders.
Man the way he shut off after seeing that everything is going to be okay.. such emotional ending i cannot comprehend it has ended, amazing series! props to DC
@@devindietz7798 dude, he’s dead. The lights of his eyes turning off means he passed away. He says as his final line “it’s okay, I made it home.” He got to do what he was determined to do, reaching his goal and getting a glimpse at his grandsons future he won’t get to be a part of. It’s sad and sucks but he did die
Gosh Robotman is my favorite character on this show what a beautifully poetic ending, didn't expect to cry so hard. I'll miss this show dearly and I'll never forget the impact it had on my life
@@davistark2376 I watched it today and the ending made me cry like a little kid.. The only ending in recent times that managed to do the same thing was the one from supernatural, they both hit me equally hard.
What makes this finale even sadder is that...if you read the doom patrol comics, you shouldnt really be surprised by the fact that cliff, rita and larry died. You should be glad they died in their own terms
@@ksaweryjanowski827I genuinely thought they Went into the dimensión the original negative Spirit came from. I Guess he, Keeg, and Rama becoming a sun together was the show's adaptation of the "Rebis" concept
I cried so hard during the scene. He was easily my favorite character in the show and as a kid Brendan Fraser was and I’m proud to say still is one of my heroes. I’m glad Cliff made it home.
@@devindietz7798 Most likely just hop on to different projects (Movies/shows/acting in plays/doing character voices, etc etc etc)... Either that or not showing up in any form of media for a while with the exception of Brendan since he already does other movies and such.
As a new dad, this hit me so hard. I couldn't believe I was becoming a dad, like Rory. There's nothing more i want than being with my daughter and growing up with her. A chance that Cliff missed but had another chance with his grandson. I'm looking forward to the day that I have a grandchild. The cycle of life is absolutely precious. By the way, my daughter's name is Clara with middle name Jane. This was before I even knew what the show was about, so I found it a hilarious coincidence when I started binge watching a few weeks ago.
These kinds of emotional moments in shows and movies always got me, but phew boy this show came out after I became a parent and it hit me HARD as well.
Tbh that's how I felt with every season after the first one, season 1 was amazing, the rest had a few moments but weren't as great as the 1st,but I did enjoy the ending fits well with the series.
Cliff was able to see his grandson grow up with visions of the future before he passed away. Some were good, but some were bad. Furthermore, Rory repeated the same mistake his dad made with his wife and kid. However, the most important point to remember is that even when the crappiest of things happen to us, especially by our own hand, it doesn’t mean it ends there. We can still make better choices to our best efforts. Including with the people close to us. The people we love. Thus, Rory was able to reconcile with his own daughter and meet his own granddaughter. Just like Cliff did. 😢😭❤
Best superhero series. Started and ended perfectly. We saw Cliff from the moment before he switched on to when he switched off and everything in-between. Every character on this show we know better on a phsyco logical level than any other superhero a few episodes in, what they did with the rest is unheard of.
You know, in a way, Immortus actually beat the doom patrol by killing some of them, but by their own hand and the rest just left. Its crazy and messed up but, this was one of the saddest endings ive ever seen
It sucks cuz if I read the comics they always die in the End and I knew that from the start but damn, just sucks cuz it was my favorite show, I wish they could have gone longer but prolly would have went down hill very fast so I guess it’s good it ended when it did
it's still her back in day when she fell in that time hole all she want is apology from doom patrol and bring her show (music) to the world thank to butt kewk, we don't see DP trying to show the last gore scene which pull the longevity from her neck kewk
My dad died with his grandkids in the back seat. So October 16th 2009 my sister picked up my dad from dialysis and met up with my mom at the laundromat. My sister pulls up to the laundromat and she told my dad I'll be right back and he said okay. My sister goes in the laundromat in my mom comes out immediately gets in the car next to my dad and said how was your day and he just died right there. How my mom described it is as soon as she got in the car his head just turned faced her. He didn't respond and the rest was chaos.
That last line hit me too damn hard, good lord i've replayed it a dozen times already. The best, most bittersweet ending to a SciFi show i've ever seen
Looks like Cyborg gave up being a hero on the streets and spends most of his time teaching that class cause they can save way more lives and he could ever do alone
Alternate universe, so not likely. We can only hope that James Gunn (or someone he hires to direct the next Cyborg character in the DCU) can do so. Though given the fact Damian Wayne is already a character to appear in The Brave and the Bold, it could be possible. Good news is the developer of Doom Patrol is also co working on the the upcoming Waller series for 2024 release, so we will still have his DC hands on that project like he did for Doom Patrol.
If it was me i wish i hadnt he sees the death of his daighter and how afraid she is and rory turns out exactly like cliff did and made all the same mistakes
I get what you mean but what I like is Cliffe saw his grandson grow up, through all the good and the bad, he wasn’t cherry picked the best parts. It’s a messy life but still, he got to see the whole thing.
@@A-Muse-UHe got to SEE his grandson become a grandpa. That's something almost no one could claim to do in real life or Fiction (Even in Time travel stories they Only see the descendant, not the entire process) He also probably took Clara's Death the easiest because, Well he already grieved her for decades, but at least this Time was there to SEE her natural end (probably why he flashed back to when he was a little Girl) And as a bonus, he saw that the car he fixed would remain With them for decades. Letting at least part of him remain With them Even if Only on spirit
This cut so deep for me. I lost my papaw who was in my life for nearly 25 years. My grandma says he was excited to meet me and felt like he won the lottery when I was born. He wanted to be there for the most important times in my life. I now wear his dog tags so he’s always close.
Would it be wrong for me to compare Cliff and Brendan's similarity in how they got lost and were waylaid by their demons, but eventually managed to fight their way back home.
I didn’t ask for this show to end, shit I’m crying right now as I’m watching this scene again while texting and it still brings me to tears. This show was the best to come out of DC in years and it brought so much to me and my parents my Dad especially and now he and I can’t stand seeing Cliff die. I just wished more reactors could have seen it but I guess the only way for them to get paid is watching some of those MCU tv shows. Which some of them in my opinion are not that good. But still I just wished this show would have at least won an Emmy even an Oscar especially Diane Guerrero she deserves it she put up one hell of a performance and let’s not forget about Brendan Fraser’s voice acting and acting that last line really brought me to tears. There will never be another superhero show that will have great writing, acting, or even great chemistry like this show. Thank you Doom Patrol for all the laughter and entertainment you brought to my parents and I.
This episode was already an emotional roller coaster, but by the time the glimpse into Rory‘s future was over I was full on weeping. What a beautiful ending to such a goofy show.
😭 We should have gotten one final "FUCK" out of Cliff and the original 3 members of Doom Patrol are still alive if only there was some way to help them. With they're youth and sanity restored the show could possibly return 🤔
Please no. Everyone has completed their journey, they're all happy and want to rest. Knowing how there's less diehard fans of the show than the number of times Cliff says Fuck, there's no way anyone is returning for fan service, and it's better that way.
Its a bit better. Clara got to be there when her father finally died. Cliff ledt Rory the car. And he cherished the only birthday gift hia grandfather gave him.
Man this is sad, Why doom patrol have to end? Why umbrella academy have to end? Why stargirl have to end? I liked them you know lol just a few more seasons squeeze out the best.
I thought this was a very sad and fitting ending because he does actually get to touch his grandson before he dies but at the same time he sees the fact that the chain is not going to change his grandson is going to do the same thing he did and make the same mistakes which probably also means that his daughter ends up screwing up like she's afraid of I find it to be more sad add realistic with very little beauty in it
This made me so mad. It just basically spat in the face of everything Cliff did over 4 seasons to make a difference in his daughter and grandson's life, only to get the "privilege" of being shown that none of it mattered because his grandson became a screwup dead beat just like him anyway. It made an absolute mockery of his whole character. There was no redemption, no making peace, no ensuring an end to the cycle - these were the whole things that Cliff wanted to achieve to redeem himself and they couldnt even allow for that. I would definitely rather not have known about Rory's future if it was going to be that crap.
I mean that's one way to look at it. Foe me, Cliff see that even though rory ends up making the same mistakes he did. Rory has the chance to make things right like Cliff did. Cliff in the end got everything he wanted, he has friends who cares about him, he reconnected with his daughter. And when he see rory's face when looking at his grand child, he knows he's going to be ok. It's sad he dies but life doesn't always gives satisfaction, life is about making the most of it. And he did......he made it home.
health issue, it would better iif there are robotman v2 but yeah, the show is already sealed dead, no more season, same as titans, etc.. even the series is pretty good
has anybody think this was a little bit *just* a little bit uncalled for ? i mean, rita is dead why keep this with cliff. you'd think eating that damn toe nail was specifically for us to avoid seeing him dying in front of her daughter. ffs let them spend at least 24 hours together.
I think it book ends the show pretty damn well, it started from Cliff's perspective and ends with him. They also made it clear before that Parkinson's was gonna do him in with or without his Longevity
Ritas death was the only death that felt somewhat uncalled for imo since i always thought she was meant to become a full on superhero. Cliff however was always gonna die. He spiritually died in the car crash decades earlier but his purpose for living on was to make sure he didnt leave an irreparably damaged legacy for his family. Once he saw his family thriving (while still using his car no less) he was finally able to give in to the death that was supposed to happen years ago
@@shadowofbosstown Niles already did that in the first episode, as he was behind the crash on the race track and behind the one that actually got Cliff killed.. The parkinson's however wasn't Niles fault if i remember correctly.. But may i ask, why do you care when you already said on here somewhere that you stopped watching the show? Because of how awful this show was? Or am i wrong and did you mean that in a different way?
It gave them back their longevity: some spiritual concept that means you age prematurely without it. It doesn't make you immortal. Cliff was dying prior to giving up his longevity: it's why he was motivated to sacrifice it in the first place. All it did was return him to the status quo, and that's why Immortimus also gave him the crystal at the same time. It was never explicitly stated how long they have together, but it can be inferred they at least got a few weeks or months.
Legitimately, one of the most boring shows trying prime to cram so much per episode. It honestly was a note for me. I found myself sleeping rewatching episode. Fast-forwarding, an episode. Of shovel so boring. There are so many characters. Too many. Are could have taken it serious
It's actually a beautiful show focusing on identity, family, purpose in life, and death that avoids all the terrible superhero cliches. And the mainstream superhero genre is here to stay; even if it loses popularity, it will always remain a type of genre, just like Westerns or musicals or anything else.
