"DONE - The Story of the First Transcontinental Railway" was first broadcast to a nationwide audience in May 1969 on the 100th anniversary of the completion of the first transcontinental railroad and the driving of the "Golden Spike". May of 2019 will mark the 150th anniversary of railroad's completion.

Fascinating documentary which itself is of course also historic. Thank you for posting.

Even though there are a few historical errors the documentary is an excellent video.

Interesting video! It looks like it was made some time ago. A lot of those old buildings are gone now. It hurts that so much history gets pushed over for new houses apts and dull same same buildings all over the west.

Barring the obvious (and contemporary) 'politically incorrectness', (and omissions) of the day (i.e. black and Freeman rail-workers), this is a very engaging video. Still, as dated as this production is, I'm impressed that it referenced and went into more detail of the vital importance of the Chinese to bring this project into fruition than I expected. Thanks for the post, Rickey Hughes. Really enjoyed this :)

@michaeldean9338...Wok.eness does not sit well with the narrative of the building of the RR. Any narrative after the 1980's, may include such PC activity. There are recent examples to sully the reputation of our forebear's. Thanks, from an "Original Transcon RR" enthusiast.

This is interesting. However, Grenville Dodge's photo shown at beginning, is of him in his 70's, around 1905'ish. Since there are many photos of Grenville in the years of his earlier fame, this is a rather poor oversight, and the same goes for Durant, and Strobridge's photos...interesting over site back in the late 1960's... However, a pretty good overview of the events, in general. Thanks, and subscribed.😇
