Well last session for me for the day and yes you guessed it another red flag. So my personal conclusions of the Metzeler compared to the Pirelli
By this session the tyres were well into trackday temps and everything including pressures were as spec.
My conclusion is somewhat disappointing, The first point i would make is my battery died before the restart but my datalogger said the Metzeler managed a 1.46.4 which to be fair is comparable to the SP's which i managed a 1.46.2, i think the way it did this was much harder, as in all these video's from session 3 you can see the bike moving about a lot, now i don't mind this too much but it doesn't help your lap times.
I am still finding the Pirelli SP road tyre much better on the edge of the tyre, it was much less tiring (Yes i get the pun) out of the corner as i could put the power down earlier and it didn't slide and fight so much,
The front also didn't give the confidence of the Pirelli, On straight line braking it was as good as anything but when turning into the apex it was very loose and not confidence inspiring at all.
My personal conclusion is probably more of a question, Is the Metzeler TD an K3 as fitted to the new BMW S1000RR just without the tread pattern? It doesn't feel as good as the Supercorsa SP in the corner or on the power on the edge of the tyre so i'm wondering what is the purpose?
With no tread and no DOT stamp you cannot use it on the road but it has nowhere near the grip of a dedicated track tyre.
Again this is my personal conclusion from tyres i purchased myself to see if the Metzelers would advance my times on track (If i was timing)
My Bike:
2019 GSXR1000
full KTech
uprated brakes without ABS.

I tried a rear metzler TD last year. Not impressed.

Definitely feels like a road tyre with no tread

@@bouncinggsx I think you're right, it is a slick K3. Which isn't a bad thing, it's just not a proper race tyre is it. I think it's purpose is to be enough grip for most on a track day while lasting a long time and not being fussy about track temperature. If you're never going to use it on the road you might as well get a touch extra grip and life than you would from a K3. Rear only smeared, never let go for me. Didn't give me any confidence issues on exit. But I've only got a 115hp RSV. It was on entry and midcorner that I noticed it was a lot less stable than SCs. Like leant over it would squirm a bit where the SC would be planted. I don't have much confidence trail braking anyway and go too slow into corners but I found I was also slower in than on the SCs because of it. Feel like the front carcass is stiffer so maybe they also needed to be pushed harder than I was pushing them. My next day I'm leaving an SC scrub on the front and using one of my Metzelers on the rear. But might just be scrubs both ends after that. Superbike slicks scrubs go for no money really (like £30 a rear with 3mm+) and are sure to give far more grip than a TD or SP.

Same here. I normally use the Dunlop Q4 or Pirelli TD / SC3 on my '21 S1KRR the TC (set to high stability) activation was was minimal to moderate when pushing at my normal Mid to top of A group pace. When I tried a set of Metzeler TD's I noticed the TC set at the same level was activating much much more and at a slower pace. Personally, I think it's a combination of a flatter profile providing less contact patch at higher lean angles compared to the pointier Dunlop / Pirelli TD offerings and Metzeler's use of a less grippy harder compound. Overall I think the siped trackday tires from Dunlop / Pirelli are higher performing tires than the Metz TD.

@@bouncinggsx 100% agreed! Dunlop Q4 / Pirelli TD have better edge grip and profiles for fast track riding

@@Dr.Ken_11 Are you comparing same profiles? To me a 180/60 SC2 rear has the same profile as the 180/60 Metzeler. It's the compound that's different, with the Metzeler using a fast road compound.
