It's hard to bring the house down in this (great) work, when the final, glittery, cabaletta is omitted. If they cut it because it undermines the seriousness of the opera (which it certainly does), they might have produced it in a respectful production that honors the meaning of the work. The first, and particularly second, act finales are real masterpieces, and the work itself has tremendous nobility.
