Ooooooh! I never understood the left-side rivets strategy. I thought it was just optimally timed to coincide with grabbing the hammers to get more points, not that it grouped them all up to one side by force! Brilliant, this is going to net me so many points on my PB.
I know this is an old vid, but these are great tips and strategies for a Beginner. A lot of people want to play this game and once they do, they find out how challenging it really is. This video is not about High Scores or Point Pressing. It’s about showing players (Mostly New), how to get through all the Stages. After you can easily get through Stages using these techniques or techniques like these, then you can start going for High Scores. This video will absolutely help you develop a Foundation for DK. After you have that foundation, then go and watch Chien or Weibe High Score tactics. Excellent video, thanks for the upload!
You will get a much higher score if you utilize both hammers. Stay absolutely still until he throws the blue barrel (or until the fireball comes up a ladder), and you will get about 3K just on barrel smashing. Also, you should learn to work the barrels more - if you're under a ladder, they will always come down that ladder, but you can also make them come down a ladder in front or behind you by doing a quick shake of the joystick.
this reminds me of that movie the king of kong I never knew there was so much strategy for this game but I always loved retro games and this make me appreciate it even more
3rd level you jump once as you are running, then jump another time when the blue barrel reaches the back of your feet for some points, no stopping involved. :)
It's all about timing on that one. God, I remember working in a pizza joint when I was 16 and this game was out, we'd have all the DK players close the store, the manager played too, and we'd have DK tournaments all night long. We'd get games that were 850,000 to 835,000... in other words, one game, two guys, could take a LONG time! But that elevator stage you mention is all about position on the top and timing. I need to find a way to get this game - the original - I miss it so much!!!
Dexman, I'll say this, you leave a lot of points on the board. All the bonus things that you should pick up to increase your score, you just ignore them. And on that elevator screen instead of jumping to the rivet you jump to, you can jump to the higher one. But again, on that screen you totally ignore points that are just sitting there. I need to find the table-top version of this game, not the stand-up one, and post a vid. Me and some friends used to routinely score over 600,000 points on .25c
Is there a pattern to the bouncy things on the elevator map? I think all the maps are straightforward except for the bouncy things on the higher level maps.
Thanks for the video! I have trouble with the higher level elevator stages. Once I get to the top, I can't figure out how to time it to make it to the ladder. Any tips?
Once at the top. Run left on a short spring, get to the right elevator.Stand on edge of right elevator. Wait for a long spring (the ones that hit directly in the middle of 1st elevator (yellow block). Then make a run for the ladder. But u have to watch the next spring. If it is another long spring abort & go back. If it's short or medium keep going. U'll make it
Curious to see if this'll work for the DK64 version; I've noticed that the level order is different between the arcade version and the N64 version, but the 4 levels themselves are the same. Otherwise, all I've caught onto is that you can manipulate the RNG by pressing A at the intro screen at different times, but the third level kills me regardless. The order of jumping you brought up might help me a lot; I'll have to practice that. I'm bookmarking this for reference.
I’ve always wondered and I never seen this happened before. But you know the two ladders that’s between the girl and the ape deploying barrels. I’ve always wondered if Mario can climb on those two ladders? Also too in the pie factory level, why is it that you only get on the level where the ape is to finish the level rather than making your way to the girl?
If you play donkey Kong 2 (D2K) it makes you get all the way to the girl on the cement level. They modified it. Btw, it is a rom hack that you plug into a donkey Kong pcb. Krazy fun tho
