Listening to this brought tears to my eyes. I use to play Donkey Kong Country with my mother when I was little and this was her favorite song. She'd play that first underwater level over and over, just to hear that tune. Thank you so much for uploading, you are an inspiration.

Strong disagree. That honor belongs firmly with Forest Interlude, but Stickerbrush Symphony is also really good.

Ben Wenger What I meant was, it was written for the game’s water stage. But then the only water stages were terrifying, so they didn’t know what to do with it. Ended up on the stickerbush level.

I have no words. I honestly don't. This captures the surreality, the light hazy feel of those levels that had wonderfully calming music just so they had an easier time killing you. The gentle tones and soft melody all the way through is the sort of thing I could sleep or meditate to, and it deserves an accolade of 'better than the original.' Beautiful work, truly stunning. I can't throw my money at the screen fast enough.

Check the left hand Ab octaves in Verdegrand's performance (v=33hinzjRJ34), for example at 0:57. There is no low Ab to be played so he actually plays a natural A! Once you know it, it's easy to hear, but still surprisingly subtle.

This is unbelievable. I remember this game like it was yesterday! I always thought this music was so beautiful---the underwater levels were somehow both relaxing yet exciting. This is even better than the original. Thank you!

Wow i know its been a long time since this video lol 8 years and the last hits have been a year ago but man this melody was the best thing on the snes ive ever heard. Not only that but country was the best thing on the snes and blew my tiny mind away with Rares milestone in 3d graphics. And with the sound track of this Japanese artist wow. To me it blew away mario, starfox link and all the big hits of the time. But honestly i must have played coral capers like 1000 times just to hear this rift. Amazing!!!

Does anyone have Kyle's rendition transcribed? Both versions are excellent, but I think Kyle's more elegant than Verdegrand's version. And I would loooove to have the sheets for this one.

Kyle, I've been learning songs through synthesia. I can read sheet notes aswell, but it takes alot more effort to decipher the notes to letters as in a, d, g, f. What would you recommand me? to keep learning through synthesia until I can play blindly, or learn through Sheets? Greetings, Jonathan

This was my favorite song of the DKC series. I bought the trilogy soundtrack from Nintendo Power for this and other great ambient tracks from the games. I'm glad there are others who appreciate its simple beauty.

Going through your SNES game collection to find music? Lol. Well they bring back a lot of beautiful memories that's for sure. However I couldn't recall this track... and I've spend hundreds of hours on the Donkey Kong Country-series. For me, the most memorable track from Donkey Kong Country series was Jib Jig (DKC2). Anyway... nicely played. I love to hear more covers from games, and I know you made quite a bit of them already. You earned my subscribe on Banjo Kazooie cover long time ago :-)

By calling it his own arrangement, he has more creative freedom; I don't think he was obligated or even expected to do the run imo.

I disagree. V's version achieves a more epic ambiance whereas Kyle's is more low-key. In ignoring the run, we miss out on a flashy--though wonderful--part of the song; in return, however, Kyle emphasizes the grace--even sorrow!--of the melody. Kyle's version is just as emotionally complete; it's just a different spin! That's my 2 cents anyhow.

I played piano since I was years old. My parents made me take lessons until 3rd grade. I stopped playing and only recently started again. I forgot how to read music and I can't afford a good piano. I am stuck with the piano I had been using since I was 5 (I'm 20 now). Also it is only a 76 key piano (I think. It has less keys than a normal one).

Kyle, as beautiful as this song is and as wonderful a job you did playing it, i have to disagree on the full blast reverb. If there was some dampening in the mid-hi register or a subtle filter for the mid-hi's i think it would be better than it is now.

this is such a great song! when i played this game i used to take my sweet time on these levels just to listen to the music. if im honest, i like verdegrand's version better (maybe because it's more true to the original?), but this one is different and also very nice and relaxing! :) i think also at 1:34, i would have liked the right hand to stay an octave lower, but that's just me. i just bought a digital piano...maybe i can learn this and try it that way. great upload!
