I always notice how DK’s fur is more clear on Switch, due to the resolution increase of course.

Beautiful art, great music, great level design with so many ideas that build on and combine with each other in interesting ways, level variety, perfect controls, great set of characters that play differently, challenging, lots of quality content, rock solid frame rate. Can't find a fault with it.

What do you guys like about it? Genuinely curious. Because I see your comment echoed by many in the Nintendo community. And I consider myself a fan of platformers. I admit I'm probably not even halfway through the game, but Tropical Freeze just doesn't pull me in like other platformers. I've had it since late 2016, but I've only played it a handful of times. Does it get more interesting the further you go?

thkingupnorth it really is though... and this coming from someone who thinks super mario world is the best game of all time. Tropical freezes level design and soundtrack are so charming, my eyes watered on a couple levels. Its just masterfully made... 200%ing the game was some of the most fun ive had in a platformer

Heck, this game is on the Wii U's Nintendo Selects section for $20. It's getting a bit ridiculous seeing each and every 1st Party Nintendo game priced at $50-60 even when the content isn't always abundant between them.

I was going to buy if it was $50 Canadian. Don't get how Crash Trilogy releases at $40USD, Ratchet and Clank PS4 $40, SotC Remake $40 etc. But this is going to release at full price as a port of a 3 year old game and a "easy mode with a different character" lol. Because Crash games have been sold to 150 million people on PS2, another 80 million people on PS3, and 15 million people on Vita over a span of 2 decades. DKC, on the other hand, has sold to 13 million people on Wii U, just a few years ago. That's why.

Probably further downclocking the GPU to preserve battery life. I assume they found the sub-native resolution to be negligible in such a _sidescrolling_ game. Otherwise, the decision makes no sense whatsoever. The Switch would have no problem running this game at 720p. Breath of the Wild was made entirely for Wii U's hardware and was quickly ported over to the Switch's hardware (and comparably alien architecture) in less than a year. Breath of the Wild runs substantially better in portable mode on Switch than on Wii U (framerate drops night and day less frequent and dramatic on Switch). Breath of the Wild is also far *FAR* more technically demanding than DKC even at 30 FPS.

Walther Penne -_- You do realize the GPU runs around 768 MHz docked, right? Placing the Switch in the dock doesn't magically change the hardware form factor. The current method for heat dissipation is more than enough to keep the system within safe operating temperatures... If stock wasn't enough the Switch launch would comprise north of a 90% failure rate. Yes, it's most likely battery drain, as even if the system was pulling dock frequencies there wouldn't be a risk of thermal failure (unless you blocked the fan). Base clocks for handheld is indeed just north if 300 MHz, but also documented is around 380 MHz for "boost mode". Where you got 500+ MHz eludes me.

LemoByte 648p to 720p is hardly a difference when comparing battery life. Maybe a day 1 patch will increase portable mode to 720p. No idea why they couldn't make portable mode 720p, considering the fact that even portable mode on the Switch is more powerful than the Wii U...

to be fair im not so sure about that, i think the switch in portable mode is a little bit weaker than the wii u

The wii u is more powerful than the switch in handheld mode when it comes to the GPU but not the CPU. Thats why this game has a higher resolution. But other games that were more cpu focused played better on switch than on wii u

trapez77 That doesn't mean anything. 480p is 480p regardless. All downsampling would do is give the look of anti-aliasing. Same thing as 4k to 1080p. Except a native 720p would looked markedly improved. 480p is massively lower in pixel count than 720p. No amount of AA will compensate. It will still be very blurry by comparison.

At least the jump from PS2 to PS3 was great enough that only a resolution upgrade completely changed the way the game looked and felt. And now the jump from PS3 to PS4 again brings a long extra detail and feel. It’s not the same graphics running at the same FPS for $59.99.

They can be even larger than 5 gb and it makes no difference with decent speed. And a full 60 USD game normally takes more than 30 gb, sometimes even 50, so yeah, this game is small for full price in my opinion.

On the other hand, this game, as well as every Nintendo game nowadays, as cool and amazing as it can look and be, lacks the production value that almost any standard PC, PS4, XB1 game with a 60 dollar price tag (cinematics, technology, voices, music, and yes, graphics). That's why this game is overpriced, it's not even in the same league as the new Zelda. Let's face it, if this game wasn't a Nintendo IP and it was released on PC you could find it on Steam at maybe 15 dollars, and even half the price on a Sale. Look at all the amazing Steam games that are even less than 10 bucks. I respect your opinion but I think that my thoughts are perfectly valid. This game really caught my eye as a DK SNES fan, but it's just not worth the price to me.
