Donna Summer - State of Independence (7" Single) LYRICS SHM "Donna Summer" 1982 Track 14 of 16 Written by Vangelis & Jon Anderson Produced by Quincy Jones Remixed by Boilerhouse
How to make a wonderful song : * Come up with a catchy melody and timeless harmonies that do not follow "the norms" * Mesh mind-boggling lyrics Mix and shake et voilà ! Thank you Jon & Vangelis ;-)
Part of the happiest time of my life; I'd just passed my Driving test and had my first car, my independence; going for a drive and listening to the radio (what we used to call cruising back then); and songs like this playing. Awesome times.
A very beautiful cover of Jon Anderson's song he wrote with Vangelis. I have a hard time deciding which version I like better, Todmobile with Jon himself singing or this one. So I listen to both, often. Donna takes a little poetic license by adding scripture but, considering Jon created the lyrics on the spot as he was singing it the first time, the spiritual origins are pretty clear. There are quite a few covers and I hope the whole world will be singing it soon! I'm certain Jon would be pleased!
Amazing cover! In my opinion much better than the J&V version (although i am a fan of J&V) but I think Donna just nails it RIP Donna Summer you beautiful lady and amazing singer ;-(
AS FABULOUS NOW AS IT WAS WHEN FIRST RELEASED. LONG MAY YOU SING DONNA ….YOUR VOICE & THIS SONG GIVES ME THE WILL TO CARRY ON ❤ & I DEDICATE IT TO PATRICK…SO VERY MUCH MISSED 😢
'His truth will abound the land'.. which is as follows, there is a higher love and there is a lower love, human nature. There is no point in having them in conflict or trying to deny one over the other but it is important to realise that politicians play on the lower nature, human nature, the need for jobs, security, fear of outsiders in order to win themselves votes, what they don't tell you is how many jobs are created at the expense of the environment or how much heartache and pain is inflicted on those they scapegoat (see Donald Trump scapegoating Muslims) when in actual fact we could all have an economy based on replenishing the planet, restoring it to its former glory where food is plentiful for everybody and travel to foreign lands is amicable and hospitable. The truth is concealed in our very own languaGE, make wise and proper use of ones intelliGEnce, inGEnuity, knowledGE to prevent things like hunGEr, damaGE to the environment, stop dropping garbaGE on the street and in the ocean, be proud of the planet, make it a beautiful place to visit now and for all future GEnerations. This message goes to the very heart of peoples souls, who are we, why are we here, what is our purpose, how can life and living be fulfilling. GEsu, Italian for Christ , the Christ messaGE, Christ consciousness..state of independence and autonomy, the higher love.
I am from Denmark. My language is Danish. English is a foreign language to me. I often wondered what the song was about, if it was a "lovsang"/a song about Christianity? In very simple words, what would you say it's about?
@@L9G896 I would say it is both, a love song and about the coming of Christ and of Christ consciousness , state of Independence, not being controlled by authoritarian rulers. politicians, dictators .
As usual, a Christian reads too much into a song and thinks it's all about them and their pointless religion. "Jon Anderson, who wrote this song with Vangelis, told Songfacts the meaning behind the lyrics (and what the word "Oroladian" is all about) in a 2013 interview. "The concept of the song is the state of independence that we are growing into," he said. "And Oroladian was the sort of mythical person that opened the remembering gate. It's a poem by a famous English poet, The Remembering Gate. We start to remember our truth, we start to remember our reality. So each line is very, very positive. It's a worldwide collection of each line. It was the idea that it's easier to discern truth and life as a game. It's not as complicated as we make it in the West. The Caribbean sense of freedom derives from the meditative state. Meditation, something to do with the Caribbean, is African, very Ethiopian, essentially. The music from Ethiopia created reggae, calypso, all these kind of rhythms. Ska. It all comes from Ethiopia. I was really aware in my head about all that, so I was trying to do this worldwide oneness again, and that's what the song is about. "State of Independence" is all about how the truth will come." The poem Jon refers to is On Passing the New Menin Gate by Siegfried Sassoon." Source: www.songfacts.com/facts/donna-summer/state-of-independence

@@johnpoulter you are hopelessly delusional if you associate The CONald with anything religious...except his perfect fit to the description of the ANTICHRIST. HE FITS ALL OF THOSE. HE’s FOOLED MANY FOOLS..as the scripture says. I’m just waiting for that HEAD WOUND. GUESS you cult victims will think he’s god then too! So sick you are!
