I appreciate your work, though I have a couple inquiries Facilitated diffusion includes a channel thus it shouldn't be simple diffusion, it should be either the umbrella term passive transport or the more specific term facilitated diffusion. Secondly, regarding volume replenishment, when dehydrated you feel thirsty and havenmuscle cramps, the cells shrunk in the hypothalamus and muscle cells lost water respectively. Thus you can't only think of the IVF and Interstitial fluid alone when rehydrating, after all if water is lost, some ICF will help the ECF. Unless the patient you mentioned had absolutely normal water volume

Wow, I wish some of the doctors I have dealt with in the past have watched your videos. If they did my family would probably be in much better health. I may have to show this to my family member's doctor, lol. I have some family members whose doctors don't understand dehydration and hypoperfusion, or so it seems. They say just drink more water (which makes it worse due to lack of electrolytes) and they assume it's normal to have low blood pressure, hypo-osmolar blood osmolality, Reynolds like phenomenon, dizziness, fatigue, dry skin, dehydration, and adipsia. Then even when we tell them plain water generally makes symptoms worse, then their answer is well all you need is more water. 😲

@@MedicosisPerfectionalis what's really sad is the 8+ doctors from different medical disciplines, different health systems, and different states who still say drink more water. Even though it is plainly obvious the person is experiencing hypo-osmolality hypo-perfusion. It seems it is just too much to ask to get several liters of fluid to fill the cellular compartment and improve tissue perfusion. What a shame.

One question. When Water flows to the Protein compartment, wouldn't it dilate the Ion concentration thus the Donna's Equation would never be stable and Water would flow to protein compartment until the cell looses all his water and die from lack of wetness or from greediness of the thirsty protein compartment? I feel like Donnan must be stopped

The non protein compartment should be interstitium not cell. Gibbs donnan equilibrium is actually explained btw protein compartment (cell) and non protein compartment interstitium. Am i correct. Plz correct me if am wrong.

Is there something I'm missing? The protein content in the body is higher intercellular than extracellular. So water will want to move inside the cell according to this. However, it's extracellular sodium that prevents this.

Small doubt - plasma volume is around 5L and total body volume 42L. Doesn't that make the ratio 1/8th instead of 1/4th? Since whatever fluid we administer being isosmotic will get equally distributed between ICF and ECF?

okay... firstly, plasma is 3.5L and it represents 5% (3.5/42) of total body water Secondly, Fluid wont move if no one tells it to, its lazy. Fluid moves from plasma to Interstitial fluid due to hydrostatic pressure, but to move to ICF, it would need osmotic pressure. The infused fluid is isotonic which means it has same osmolarity as ICF, so there is no osmotic pressure, so water will not move into the cells or we would all be dead from our cells bursting doofus. I think the first consequence isn't correct. In the picture "after equilibrium", there is no electrical gradient because the electrical sum of ions in both sides is zero. And the only force on sodium is just the chemical gradient which leads to disturbance of equilibrium😕 I think what is showed as equilibrium is wrong
