This is my in-depth review on the Donner DDP-80 Digital piano. Very cool and unique product from Donner; it's almost like an acoustic piano with the basic benefits of a digital added in. I've also done a shorter initial reaction review here: • Donner DDP-80 Digital ...

Thanks for the video. Very educational about digital pianos. (polyphony limitations etc) Never thought about that in speculations about keyboards! I subscribed to your channel even though I don't have a piano and don't know if I ever will really get one but I leaned something about a whole aspect of digital technology in general, so that makes it worthwhile to see your other output. Thanks for the review. I purchased after watching and absolutely love mine. I am trying to find Midi information as well as what cord to purchase for midi to connect like you did in your video using drum beats, etc. Any help on that?
@PianoTone
@PianoTone Год назад
Hi there! For sending MIDI to a device you just need a normal USB cable (like a printer cable) then any adapter needed to connect to your device (like a lightning adapter for iPhone/iPad). For playing with drumbeats though, it’s not a MIDI connection to the iPad; the audio out from the piano is connected to a mixer, and my iPad (which is playing the drumbeats using an app) is also connected to the mixer from the iPads headphone port - then the mixed signal is what you’re hearing. Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe

I couldn't find an honest review on the internet. All of them were sponsored by Donner (they've sent the pianos to the people for free). So here is the unsponsored review of the Donner DDP-80 after buying. I would lie if I said, "this is an amazing instrument for everyone!" That's not true. The only two reasons I decided to buy it are a good-looking flat top and fully weighted keys. I couldn't find any other manufacturers with this flat top. The keyboard. The keys are okay. Fully weighted keyboard, and responding is very well. Also, I liked the material of the keys. It feels cool and looks like it without a shining surface. No nuances here. The sound. Well, I would say it's 6 out of 10. Yamaha p105 sounds better, for sure. The sound of DDP-80 is flat, without enough deepness of the bass, and the high notes are really bright. I would say too much bright. Overall it's playable, but don't expect that it would sound like a real piano. Again, Yamaha is better in that way. And also, even with headphones, the sound is unnatural. Well, in my case, I will use a computer to play it via virtual instruments plug-ins. Also, be aware that there is an annoying high-frequency noise if you leave the piano with plug-in electricity (both in headphones and from the speakers). It's not so loud, but you can find it disappointing if your hearing is well, and sometimes it might be a reason for your headache. So to be sure you are okay, unplug the adapter every time you leave the instrument. Also, the cable and adapter itself are pretty weak. Especially the cable. I think in a year or two after active usage, it will be broken. The other issues. When I received the package, with the first connection, I found that the pedal block wasn't okay. The right pedal produced clicking at the end of the movement. I repaired it easily with the screwdriver and 15 minutes of my time. There was an unplugged spring, so if you have the same issue, just plug it in the right place. Also, I found the unglued corner on the top. So it looks like I need to try and glue it properly. Overall. That's a little bit pitty that the new device from the box has so many things to fix and do, especially for this high price (in my case, I spent ±800 EUR to get it). Would I like to send it back because of all these issues? Of course not. Does it worth 800 EUR? Well, only if you like the design. At the point of the sound, you can take a Yamaha p45 or p125, and it will sound better. But I don't like Yamaha because of all these plastic materials. The quality of the materials - more or less good. I would say it's 7 out of 10. To whom this instrument fit? For beginners, it will be okay because of the keyboard. For professional usage - only if you plan to use it with virtual instruments because the sound is too flat and unbalanced. Am I satisfied with all these things - it's difficult to say.

Hey thanks a bunch for all of that info that's awesome. As I mentioned at the start of my review, Donner did supply me with that piano, but I also did give my honest review. I didn't have any of the issues you mentioned (pedal, issues with the finishing, or any electrical noise) sorry to hear about yours, you're totally right that shouldn't occur with a new instrument, even if it is a less expensive one! Thanks again for providing all of this info for the channel it's much appreciated!

Hi there! The Donner is a nice entry level piano, but emphasis is on entry/beginner level; the Roland FP-30X is going to be a much higher quality (and more expensive as a result). I just actually did a review on the Roland FP-30X here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZqguL8GWsH8.html and the Yamaha P-125 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xWqilIX-0l0.html here if you want some more options from the "next level" manufacturers. Can this ddp80 connect with headphone via Bluetooth?
@PianoTone
@PianoTone Год назад
No (no keyboard can do that). There would be far too much delay/latency. When a keyboard says it "has BlueTooth" it usually means you can stream audio from a device like an iPad into the piano to play along with; and some pianos allow you to transmit MIDI data to a device with BlueTooth, but no keyboard will send audio out with BlueTooth. @@PianoTone i'm probably misunderstanding something... how linear is the touch sensitivity? I understand that the sensitivity levels are locked in, but is it very similar to analog? To clarify, how many different velocities can it sense, soft medium hard, or everything in between?
@PianoTone
@PianoTone 8 месяцев назад
@@superdrykidrobot To be honest I have no idea how granular the touch sensitivity is (how many distinct "levels" there are with distinct samples to reflect how hard you're playing), other than I could play reasonably expressively (hit keys soft, get a softer quieter sample, hit them harder, get a crisper louder sample etc). Hope that helps!

Donner gave a way a lot of these pianos to RU-vid reviewers aka advertisers. The piano sounds pretty bad. Dynamic range is awful. Every note has a harsh attack. It’s definitely a beginner piano, like for your first couple years of piano lessons. You get much more realistic sounding pianos out of cheap apps or plugins. Of course you don’t get the keyboard with built-in speakers. But I think it’s hard to justify this Donner for the sound alone.
@PianoTone
@PianoTone Год назад
Totally agree it is definitely a beginner piano; as far as apps or plugins, alot of piano centric players (especially beginners) aren't likely to be interested in dealing with apps and plugins and will want a simple keyboard with its own sound and speakers. Totally agree. I was able to get this piano for free, and I'm glad I didn't pay for it. Its better than my previous cheap digital piano but not that great. Even through good speakers some of the middle notes solid quite digital and synthetic. Then again I tried a roland fp10 and found it to sound similar. I've been running it through my macbook most of the time with some nice logic vsts
