Real life Donnie Brasco Joseph D. Pistone, director Mike Newell and writer Paul Attanasio talk about the making of 1997 crime film "Donnie Brasco" with Al Pacino and Johnny Depp.
It was really Sonny Black that said " tell Donnie if it was gonna be anyone, i'm glad it was him" . He was sent for and killed. Lefty went to prison was released and died from cancer not too long after.
It is true a lot of the dialogue was true but not said by the actual person who said it according to the book. Eddie Black, one of the Sonny Black crew in the movie Donnie Brasco..
I can't see Tom Cruise in this part. Maybe Brad Pitt if hair was dark. Pacino made this movie and Depp did a tremendous job but Al is the best there has ever been. Forget about it!
You're RIGHT! Depp simply 100% NAILED THAT ROLE! ...BESIDES... Can you imagine Tom-fucking-Scienthology-Wacko-Cruise trying to present himself as an ITALIAN MOBSTER?? :D ...with that W.A.S.P. - "good-boy"- look?? ...and that "POLISHED" ACCENT of his?? C'MON!!! :D He's as "italian" as I am "Japanese"!! XD :D
This was an excellent story! How could they have, even for a moment, considered casting Tom Cruise for the role of Joseph Pistone? What an inconceivable thought. In fact, I'll go as far as saying that I would never have watched the movie, if that were the case. Period! Depp wore that role like a tailored jacket. He owned it!
I agree. I was annoyed when they added bits about Joe doubting his loyalty and possibly going native. He never forgot what he was there for, and there was never a chance of him betraying his country.
I would like to know if He really beat the Japanese guy or it was added(scripted) in the movie.... Did he slapped his wife in the real life, Did he kept the money from the casino in FL? I read two books of his life but didn't quite loved them because I didn't believe what was written as the truth of what he did undercover. Actually, I feel that the stories in the books were anything but garbage tales. I think (some or most of) what he did is still classified.
I doubt he beat the Japanese guy up. They cant endanger people. They have getaway plans like faking a heart attack or taking pills that make them throw up or faint, ect.
I believe that the beating at the Japanese restaurant was made up. After the first 6 months, according to this documentary, Pistone said that his only contact with his family was via phone. The money was also added in to the movie because I don't recall Pistone mentioning it in the book. If you want to know the truth, don't depend on Hollywood. Buy the book instead. It is like "Midnight Express". Much of the movie was made up bull shit.
They said they showed the Japanese guy getting beat up to show his decent into the life, but it wasn't real. Ruggiero & Sonny Black said he wasn't FBI because an agent would never do some of the stuff Pistone did. So he did something that he ain't admitting to.
