First time I heard this song was in my apartment on an Oct. 31 on a cool autumn night. I had my window open taking in the cool breeze. Now everytime I hear this it reminds me of nothing but that Halloween and that cool night atmosphere feeling. Just a little memory of mine for what its worth.
Saw him live in Owings Mills, MD at Painters Mill open theatre in 69 & recorded on My cassette. Still have it. This was after moving from England in 1966.
I'm way too old to be commenting, but there was something happening at that time that made this song relevant.........and it still works in the present times we're living
This was in a movie I watched the other day. I had heard it before but damn that intro hit me so hard that instant. Thought damn that's so funky and sounds unreal. How do I barely know this song.
I believe this is the first one I’m hearing this song in this version or in general, period! I’m in love with it! Now it’s my theme song for this phase of my growing journey called life! Tis’ the season my fellow witches 🖤💚
@@mark1952able Thanks 😊 It's crazy when you come across a song that was from your birth year & it's groovy , it makes a music 🎶 lover more appreciative of the talent musicians have on on your same wave length .
Time stamps for me, practicing this for my music grade! 0:21 When I look out my window, many sights to see And when I look in my window So many different people to be That it’s strange Sure strange You got to pick up every stitch You got to pick up every stitch You got to pick up every stitch Mm-mm-mm Must be the season of the witch Must be the season of the witch, Yeah, Must be the season of the witch 1:29 When I look over my shoulder, what do you think I see? Some other cat looking over his shoulder at me And he’s strange Sure it’s strange You got to pick up every stitch You got to pick up every stitch Yeah Beatniks are out to make it rich Ohh noo, Must be the season of the witch, Must be the season of the witch, Yeah, Must be the season of the witch, 2:56 You got to pick up every stitch The rabbits running in the ditch Beatniks are out to make it rich Ohh noo, Must be the season of the witch, Must be the season of the witch, Must be the season of the witch, When I look.. 3:39 When I look outside my window, what do you think I see? And when I look in my window, So many different people to be It’s strange, Sure it’s strange You got to - pick - up - every stitch, You got to pick up every stitch The rabbit’s running in the ditch ohh noo, Must be the season of the witch, Must be the season of the witch, Yeah, Must be the season of the witch When I look.. When I look..
Do you know if it’s a Hammond organ? I’ve been trying to find out but haven’t found any information about what specific type of organ it was that they used in this song. I’ve only found articles saying that Julie Driscoll’s cover of it used a Hammond organ.
Wasn’t born then but always felt I had a past life in that era before I got here just to get some culture before this body continued the legacy of this journey. Been intrigued by Wicca since I was 8 years old and I’m 38 now still practicing and living life. But this song resonates with me like no other! I haven’t stopped playing it!
This was how the 1960s felt with our young men being sent to die in the Vietnam "war". It was wicked & wrong, just an ego trip on the part of Pres. Lyndon Johnson after the Gulf of Tonkin. I was furious & bewildered by my home of the free & land of the brave.
It was a Johnson’s war. I was there. It was every old white man’s war who sent every young man to fight it because only 18-year-olds who are full of testosterone will go out and take another life without thinking.
This is a huge part of the music scene in my early teens!! Its sound is like listening to my stereo with my head phones on! The only thing missing is a couple scratches in the album!! Thanks so much for uploading!! I also like listening to the Stephen Stills, Al Kooper, Mike Bloomfield, super sessions cover!!!!!!
I would have liked to have heard this song on The Munsters & or The Adams Family or Bewitched. They were totally during the same time when this song was released in 1966.
It couldn’t have appeared in _The Munsters_ or _The Addams Family_ because this song was released in September, and the last episode of _The Munsters_ aired in May, and the last episode of _The Addams Family_ aired in April.
nice song🔝i did not know that it was a donavan song.I first heard it on the super session album by Bloomfield,Kooper and Stills... Strange lyrics...must be the season of the witch🤘
Halloween 🎃 2021, Valhalla Crucible in the backyard, Bears losing to the Miners, Cowboys on the Viking hit list, it's 56° sun shining, Season of the Witch playing with the game coming thru the JBL outdoor speakers. Peace & Love, Skol Vikings! Worried about Billy Kreutzman, he left the show ar Drums, missed the Colorado run with Dead n Company. Say one for Bill the drummer Kreutzmsn. #LongLiveTheDead
some corrections: 1. "Many sights to see" -- not "sites" 2. "That it's strange" -- not "That is strange" 3. "So strange" -- not "Sure it's strange" (first section) 4. No "yeah" after the second "You got to pick up every stitch" (second section) 5. "Mm hmm" -- not "Oh no" (second section) 6. "Sure is strange" -- not "Sure he's strange" (third section) 7. "The rabbit's running in the ditch" -- not "down the ditch" 8. "Beatniks out to make it rich" -- not "Beatniks are out to make it rich" 9. "What do you think I see?" -- not "Many sites to see" (sixth section)
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2019 movie brought me here in 2020. I love the beat & lyrics of this song. It's mesmerizing. Must be the season of the witch. lol... "Season Of The Witch" Lyrics by Donovan When I look out my window Many sights to see And when I look in my window So many different people to be That it's strange So strange You got to pick up every stitch You got to pick up every stitch You got to pick up every stitch Mmmm, must be the season of the witch Must be the season of the witch, yeah Must be the season of the witch When I look over my shoulder What do you think I see? Some other cat lookin' over His shoulder at me And he's strange Sure is strange You got to pick up every stitch You got to pick up every stitch, yeah Beatniks are out to make it rich Oh no, must be the season of the witch Must be the season of the witch, yeah Must be the season of the witch You got to pick up every stitch Two rabbits runnin' in the ditch Beatniks out to make it rich Oh no, must be the season of the witch Must be the season of the witch Must be the season of the witch When I go When I look out my window What do you think I see? And when I look in my window So many different people to be It's strange Sure is strange You got to pick up every stitch You got to pick up every stitch Two rabbits runnin' in the ditch Oh no, must be the season of the witch Must be the season of the witch, yeah Must be the season of the witch When I go When I go
The lyrics on the screen don't match what I hear, which is a bit disturbing for me. For example, at 0:39 I hear "That it's strange, so strange, ..." but the lyrics on the screen show "That is strange, Sure it's strange, ..." Love the song though, and glad someone took the trouble to make a lyric video for it.
I really liked this song when it first came out, but it got "0" airtime. I heard it first from an Album owned by a friend. Most of Donovan was less than stellar (Sunshine Superman, anyone?), but this song was awesome.
I can’t tell if this song is about Halloween or nam? I mean they both are spooky and this song was made during Nam Era. I listen to this song so much and it brings me to Nam even though I wasn’t alive during that time.
Why is it that nobody can seem to transcribe the lyrics correctly even when they're listening to the song? This one has so many errors you should start over.
Lisa Marie Is a weeb It's not always easy to hear the original artist! Esp when it came out in 66! Donovan has all types of groovy hits people don't talk too much about! 🌸
Pardon MY ignorance but who is Lana Del Rey? Im more familiar with Donovan. But I'm not THAT old. I was born a couple years after this song even came out. So its before my time. But I'll have to look up Del Rey unless you wanna give me some info.
These lyrics are a bit butchered and off cue, plz get it right, esp the end of the song: there is no (more) "When I look", it's "Where'd I go", not the same as the verse with "When I look"! That is correct, for the verse earlier, but NOT what is said at the end. NOTE: Some people think it's "When" (as opp to "Where'd") I go", which very well could be too, but bottom line is that this it's a hard one to discern, but only at the very end in my opinion (as said). The tune (seems to me, although I deem it fairly obvious) always has been regarding a general sense of rat-raciness, if you will, to which the writer (Donovan) has lost himself. The atmosphere, the people, the sense of uncertainty, which likely existed in his social setting (esp. his career as a musician), and the things he OBSERVED, are the premise of the song. It gets deeper, but if you want analysis, search an search b/c every human has their own perspective, which the song, incidentally, is about: Perceiving and observing and reporting in a metaphorical language, but that is all music, no?
"Sights to see" rather than "sites to see," I think. They are two different words, with different meanings. After that, what I hear is "That it's strange -- So strange." And ... I hate to criticize (no, I don't), but it seems you weren't very careful about getting it right. Lots of things that are clearly different from what he is singing. I think I would have been stumped on "Beatniks are out to make it rich," so thanks for that.
It is the season of the witch and the strong delusion is their fortune. Dark night blood magic. new gospel. new Jesus. Its the season of the crow. The crow is here. Wake up ......look up your salvation drawth nigh. Death is just the beginning.
