I remember listening to this song before I comprehended the full scope of "psychedelic rock" and assumed everything from the 60s with a color-saturated, art-nouveau cover would sound like Jimi Hendrix. Needless to say, I didn't get it and dropped it quickly. Several years later, I listened to it again for some reason and was electrified.

Perfect drumming by the great Eddie Hoh. He also plays on the Bloomfield Super Session cover from 1968.

Wow this takes me back to 1968 Boston Common the "Summer of Love." I was a hippie too and staying on the common with hundreds and hundreds of us. My God that was a great summer. Oh yeah! It was ah... "Groovey?"

I heard this song in the movie scary stories to tell in the dark , and it's a pretty good song, and when I wake up in the morning, the alarm of this song always goes off.

No idea what the lyrics mean, maybe abstract free association writing. The music and vocals are wonderful. This is from my era. Love Donovan.

Only heard this a few weeks ago for the first time. My generation thought of Donovan as a bit of a nancy boy. How wrong we were! He played with the best musicians around at the time. And RIP Jeff Beck. (I'm 69)

I hadn't heard this song in years... then it's on the Sunday night horror film on TV (yes, I still watch TV) and then on House the next day. Today is Tuesday, I thought I'd go 3 in a row. Love Donovan, love this song.

I'm 72, been listening to this song off and on for over 50 years, never gets old.

Donovan's songs were so progressive. Eclectic mix of folk, pop, funk, psychedelic rock.

Agatha all along brought me here.

In which I reveal my age: I vividly remember when this was released. I bought the album it is on immediately. It was 1966. I have always loved it. Dripping with atmosphere and suggested, hinted at meanings. And such a great sound. I still have the LP I bought at the time, but I haven’t played it in years. This is the first time I have listened to it on RU-vid, and I have to say it amazes me! It must have been remastered or remixed at some point because I’m hearing all kinds of things in it, various instruments that jump out at me, that I never noticed before, or at least never paid much attention to. Now they slap me in the face! It is almost like hearing a new song, but with the comfortable familiarity of one you’ve known and loved for decades. I’ve just listened to it three times in a row, and I’m about to go for a fourth. Thank you!

Finally is October 1st, officially is the season of the witch. 🎃

Man! This guy never got enough recognition. WAY ahead of his time.

I had a girlfriend around this time (1967) that had long beautiful auburn hair and when we would hung out in her room, she was always crocheting something. She was very fast, and her stitches were perfectly formed & spaced. So, one day I asked her, how do you do that? "Come here and I'll show you". Long story short...I was all thumbs, I couldn't get it right at all and I remember her looking at me, saying, "you've got to pickup every stitch" otherwise it gets to be a mess. I think Donovan must have had a similar experience and just started rhyming lines that went with this statement.

Let's be honest, this song didn't come up in our recommendations. We searched for it.

This track oozes so much atmosphere. As important as the chords are, the slinkily arhythmic guitar and bass lines are what give this song its paranoid swagger. The way the downbeat gets subsumed by backbeat and syncopation in the verses is awesome and adds a lot to the track’s uneasy groove. “Sure is strange” indeed

I ment Donavon and his family who owned a tree house BB in Negril Jamicam 1972-1973 It was nice really did not know how much he was in the music industry. Right after I met, Steven Stills, and Young. Living in those days was pretty wonderful,, Great Stories.
