For me, there'll never be anything to top Gift from a Flower to a Garden. I have it in my car right now and when I start the engine, the music goes on. That was Xmas of 1967, a few months after Sargent Pepper. Ahhh, what great music in my lifetime. Wouldnt trade those years for anything. Finally saw Donovan in a small club in Miami Beach in 1993. Sat right in front of the 2 foot high stage and sang along to every song. Also got his autograph AND his guitar pick (plectrum). Still have them. =) "flower power !" .
If you guys could see me right now... I'm fanboying so hard... This gives my soul peace... I can't...can't believe he released so much music... Yet he is so so underrated... My goodness, I wish more people my age would know him (I'm 18, 2020)
Sunshine Superman recorded in 1965 - only the title track was recorded in '65, on the very last day of December to be exact. The rest of the album was recorded in January-February 1966
I feel like taking him aside and saying: "Hey dude, you're Donovan! You are the only dude on the planet who can claim that. You don't need to convince us. Your music already has! We believe already."
I have all but one … the kids’ sings one. A Donovan album was my first ever record purchase. Cared for a neighbour’s dog for a week to earn the cash. Decades ago! But I’ve still got them. 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
How multi talented Donovan is ! I have many of his albums.I wish he had a Brother Sun Sister Moon soundtrack album - such glorious music. He has made an acoustic BSSM album ! Sutras is a great album too.
A huge talent . I wish he had described each album a bit more . His first live album was expanded into a two record set in recent years . Some songs sounded better without the commercial settings of Mickie Most . I cherish the 3 times I saw him in concert .
I have ALL of these albums accept for the last one shown, "Donovan Rising." Also have albums released after this video was made. The Donovan "Live in Japan" was harder to find. Had seen it at different times on EBay but always got outbid. Never did see it at any record shops in the Los Angeles area. Finally did win it on Ebay. Think I had to pay about $85.00 for it to a seller in Japan. A lot of money (for me) to spend for a record but splurged this one and only time.
Thanx Donovan. I have never seen a copy of " HMS Donovan" 2LP. I have " Home Sickness" which Jeff Beck scholars say Jeff Beck plays guitar on. I have half of your 60s discs and love it still !! THANK YOU
Glad to see Donovan is still with us and looking great! His voice (both as a singer and a writer) is unique, and his original songs are infused with a pleasantly hallucinatory aura that bespeaks their origins in the 60s.
I have most of these albums. I missed one or two so I found this helpful. I think we often forget Donovan is a solo songwriter musician and compare him to "bands" where several members share the load.
Mine too. My 10 year old grandson loves “Intergalactic Laxative” but it’s boy humour. I played it for him, so guilty as charged, created a Donovan fan for my daughter to enjoy. She’s one too of course. Cosmic Wheels, the song, not the album, is running in my head as I write. 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
I've collected all of Donovan's albums....I have 3 copies of A Gift From A Flower To A Garden.,2 are sealed and 1 open...I always wondered if that was the very first 'boxed set'
He has a few albums that were never officially released too, they were just recorded and eventually leaked online. Of course he wouldnt mention those here though
He got his 80s all wrong, it went backwards it went neutronica, love is only feeling, and then lady of the stars. And he skipped over the 90s, or something lol idk hes Donovan he can choose when he released whatever he realeases
often get the sense that donovan has been perped at some point, but maybe hes not a targeted individual just the sum effect of too many acid tripping fans trying to make him a significant part of their lives and vice versa
