Smokin rockin song from their 1973 album release "The Captain and Me". Same album that had China Grove and Long Train Runnin. Great early Doobie album.
Without You has always been one of my favorite Doobie Brothers songs. Along with China Grove and Rockin Down the Highway, it is among their hardest rockers. It is also often one of the highlights of a Doobie Brothers live concert. They just blow the building down once this song comes on.
'The Best of The Doobies' was hugely popular when it came out and it was my introduction to this band in back high school and this was an epic closer. It can only be truly appreciated loud! Great to see it getting a 'proper' reaction!
At last I got to see a reaction on this smashing hit! I've always thought that if I had to define what rock music is without using words I'd choose the first seconds of this tour de force. The electrifying sound of the guitar followed by the thundering drums never ceases to amaze me! Thank you Harri! 😄
From the 1973 album, "The Captain and Me", their 3rd album that went 2 times Platinum. Written and sung by Tom Johnston, this melancholy melody and hearfelt delivery resonates with listeners with its emotional impact. Both drummers were playing at the same time in a tribute to The Who. The guitars are blazing, the drums mesmerizing and vocals, though I would like them louder too Harri, just a great performance. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Scott. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I was 15 when Captain and Me was released. Mom got me a single speaker cassette player for Christmas and I got the cassette. I was hooked on the Doobies from that point. Saw them from the 5th row in College in '77.....Now my 15 year old Grandson is playing guitar and the DB are a group of my era he's getting into
That's the real Doobie Brothers -Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, Tiran Porter on Bass, And John Hartman head of the Drum department. This was way before the Michael Mcdonald days.
I think there are two reasons why I watch reaction videos. One, is to feel through the reaction how I felt when I first heard the song. The other reason is to be reminded just how good the song was. I had forgotten how good this song was, so thank you Harri and Scott.
I used to listen to this song on the jukebox back in the day... it was the B-side tune to either "China Grove" or "Long Train Runnin'" if I remember correctly. Their tune "Road Angel" has a very similar vibe.
Finally, someone reacted to this song! It's pure dynamite💥to my ears, no matter how often I hear it. Although it's a shame the live version wasn't available, it was a fine choice, Mr. Scott Walker. I remember seeing the Doobies live in the mid-70s: they rocked the old Montreal forum like crazy, especially when they started playing that number, wow! Oh, and kudos to HarriBest... for not stopping the tune before the end, ha ha 🤣!
You know it, I know it everybody knows it. MAN as I love trashy trashy women. I know I like women a little better on the trash. He said is a confederate railroad
Wow! I had that album back in the day but it has been ages since I listened to it. Hands down, best Doobies song ever IMO. Thanks so much for reminding me about it!
Two drummers! This Hari, Is why my generation bought albums. Bands could be all over the place in just one record. Often my favorite piece was NOT the radio single! You have already reviewed a number of from the same album. "The Captain and Me " and yet there's more from that album to play. "Clear as the driven snow" is my favorite, and "Evil Woman", from an earlier album, " Tolouse Street" for the other end of the spectrum. If you just want to stay with "The Captain and Me " try South City Midnight Lady"--pure romance!
@@daviddragavon7555 A couple of favourite Doobies tracks of mine are rarely mentioned (happens a lot) they are Daughters of the Sea from What We're Once Vices..... and For Someone Special from Takin' It To the Streets.
Neal's Fandango (if a country band could spit bars, this would their song) I am also a fan of 8th Avenue Shuffle. I used to love the short acoustical interludes between tracks. I saw them in Vancouver BC about 1974 at an old wooden bleacher gymnasium a rock toss away from the stadium. Just a few weeks before "The Captain and Me" broke it huge across the continent. Their warmup band was a bluegrass band called Mason Prophet. Audience had a great deal of home made wine 🍷 and, of course Doobie! What a fun night!!!
@@daviddragavon7555 Two great songs you've mentioned there, l think l love the Doobies even more now than l did 'back in the day' True of other bands too. Neal's Fandango one of the best from Stampede without a doubt. 8th Avenue Shuffle too a favourite from Takin' It to the Streets, just great. One of my other favourite Doobies tracks is South of the Border from Cycles album. It's mostly the 'deep cuts' from many artists/bands that l love the most.
The song with no voices it s hard to say it d Doobie Bros. but only the voice you knoe right away it s them ! Yes i agree it s one of the best song guitar wise 😎
Havent grooved to this one for a while, thanx for that. The Captain And Me was my favorite album back in the early 70s. I like both versions of Doobie Brothers old and new. Uplifting gifted men.
No one here gonna mention this man’s amazing shirt? Edit: fun fact this track features two drummers: John Hartman and Keith Knudsen. The spectacular bass playing is the great Tiran Porter
Great track & great reaction,Harri...Thanks! If you dig this, try their songs Road Angel, Down In The Track, and Disciple. They did 'rawk' occasionally. Cheers, T
Band wasn't taken very seriously back in the day. Not sure why -- great songs, singers, musicianship... Their latest album LIBERTE is pretty darn good, too! The Doobies made their mark with fast rock songs. They slowed down a lot when Michael McDonald replaced Tom Johnston, who wrote "Without You" and many of their other AM radio hits.
