@J R That would be an argument if Wolf3D wasn't the first video game to have any sort of content rating, voluntary or otherwise (PC-13 for Profound Carnage). Mortal Kombat was a much bigger scapegoat for that since they had cartoons, toy lines, and comic books.
@@karpai5427 that’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard. NASA did a study and found right dodging to be 95% less effective... you won’t be getting into esports/speed running with those numbers.
Update: I literally finished Doom II yesterday for like a sixth time using a mod. And recently the Ultimate Doom again via Doom CE/PSX. I’m also halfway through Doom 2016. Yes, it really is, once you get into DOOM, there is no turning back.
Have we played the same Doom II? The design is confusing and the "puzzles" (in the biggest quotation marks) are boring. Yes, it filled the Demon roster to with much needed varity, but look if you look away from the modded levels, this game didn't age well in many parts.
@@chestedarmor5578 I found Doom II satisfying tho, despite the amount of custom maps out there which surpass the level design of the originals. But The Chasm tho...
Fun fact: About 1 out of 10 clips from the 90s that are about computers, are about computers that either eat or zap you into their world. It's so real, it's like you're there!
@Andy joke /jōk/ Learn to pronounce noun a thing that someone says to cause amusement or laughter, especially a story with a funny punchline. "she was in a mood to tell jokes" Just in case you have no idea what a joke is.
@@juancampos9468 Yeah, the campaign was stellar on UV and Nightmare, even more so considering the fact that it's a 2020 FPS title. Even the engine is very nice, responsive and optimized, but I'm more of a classic Doom guy. : > The sheer number of absolute quality megawads running on DOOM2 IWAD is nothing short of amazing though (and you haven't counted the PWADs for the DOOM/TNT/PLUTONIA IWADs). If you have the holy trio of source ports for possible best scenario for each one (Crispy Doom for vanilla and limit-removing / DSDA Doom (PrBoom+ fork) for MBF and Boom compatibility / GZDoom for ZDoom/GZDoom stuff only), you are basically set for life, and the community is still quite active, mappers included. And many campaigns you can play co-op with friends, even on LAN. : > Probably Zandronum is your best choice there.
@@BlitzkriegBryce sometimes your mom just comes into your room and devours you whole while holding a belt for pretty much no reason Y'know, the usual friday afternoon routine
"It's easy to start playing, so it won't let you stop... Doom II, it will consume you". And here we are, still being consumed, not only by this game, but to all the games this specific one led me to.
Weird to hear it called a "fighting game." I mean yeah, technically you're fighting the enemies, but then you may as well call it an RPG too because technically you're playing the role of Doomguy.
I guessing this was at a time before many video games were in clearly defined genres. I mean the term First Person Shooter wouldn't be a thing for another few years.
Mario Kart is a 4X because you explore the track, expand the number of coins you have, exploit the terrain, and exterminate your opponents with turtle shells!
With every other commercial: use adblock to get rid of it. With Doom 2 commercial: click to watch it. I like how this ad is still accurate today - people still get consumed by it 20 and 30 years later. GZDoom/Zandronum still offer multiplayer and people are constantly making new mods.
Not released in Brazil, but dad still got floppies of pirated copies. You gotta do what you gotta do. Now I have all the classic Doom games on Steam, Doom 1 and 2 on the Switch and 2016 on Steam. I'll buy Eternal + the expansions as soon as I can.
It was illegal, that even CD-ROMs containing stuff (maps, etc.) for such game had to have the name censored (“Dxxm II” for example) so that it can be sold in stores, as with the case of most banned games at the time.
Imagine if this was Brutal Doom that was in the commercial in 1994. I bet the United States Senate Committees would get angry back then and would do anything to shut it down because of the involving violence in the game.
The Dems would have shat bricks. It's a good thing we had some Republicans in there for a dose of sanity. Political correctness is cancer, and liberalism is a mental disease.
@@GeistInTheMachine Pretty sure it wasn't a political party thing back then buddy. If the person was old, ignorant, or both, they'd lose their marbles. Sounds to me you're just the kind of guy that LOVES inserting politics into everything.
I love the straight honest commercialy back then. No "this is highly educational and comes in different genders..." Just a simple "IT WILL CONSUME YOU" and that´s all you needed to know.
This is honestly pretty good when it comes to 90's game commercials since it actually shows you the game and tells you what to expect from it. It seems obvious but apparently, it wasn't in the '90s.
That computer demon has to come to the main series! Perhaps it can be explained as an experimental atempt by the UAC cultists to download demons brains onto the internet, but the possesed computers mutated!
the box art absolutely wowed me when I saw it in Costco years ago. I was 9 or 10 and had to have it. Played it without sound for years because I couldn't get it to work
