MAP13: Dark Citadel is the thirteenth map of Doom 64. It was designed by Tim Heydelaar and uses the music track "Voices In The Blood".

I think the books are the biographies of all the doomed souls. and sometimes the demons read the books and laugh at the people's pain.

I just love how hell is portrayed in this game. It's still very creepy but it's got a style to it that makes the Demons look cultured and intelligent.

Very true. I love the level of detail and nuance that went into maps like these, enough little nuggets that let your imagination run with ideas on what goes on in hell. A fantastic aesthetic for people that like a little dark fantasy. 👻☠️👹

Well done. It doesn't matter how many times I've played this map; I still manage to get myself slightly lost and run around aimlessly for a while. Also, I've never thought to use the Invincibility Sphere for the dart trap, I just end up taking inevitable damage.

Shhhh Barons🤫 It's a library! Looks like the demons are avid readers like myself, they can't be all bad!😄So glad that they can infight in this one, it'll make it a lot more fun to play and add a extra dimension to the gameplay. Damn, I love this map! Let me tell you what…that dart trap had me stuck for months as a kid. When I finally figured out what to do, this was my favorite map of the game! I loved replaying it to do speedruns, but killing every demon.

Same, this map and map 8. On map 8, it didn't matter how bright I turned up my brightness, I could not see the stairs that popped up out of the nukage at the end of that level. Fell off so many times trying to find them. 😅

Maybe the library is based on the one in The Name of The Rose, in which a labyrinth within the abbey leads to a secret room containing the forbidden, or 'dark' books.

Excellent! The pinkies sure looked very purple. The nightmare imps were pretty cool too. Love the Arachnotron's pointy legs. They looked very mechanical. Great infighting too. Especially between the Caco's and the Baron's. That Unmaker is pretty cool. Great strategies in this one BMD! OCD in the library? Classic! Beautiful night sky too! And that comment, "There's a nice fire. Oh there it is!" Meaning the yellow key. How cool was that!? Well I definitely think that there are a lot contained in those books. Probably the usual dark magic stuff but also probably histories of how evil has influenced mankind. The graphics were beautiful also. Well played.

5:35 "Quivering giblets" are two words I never thought I'd hear together, but they sound like the name of a really intense heavy metal song. 9:30 Whoa! That's a cool room. I bet it was really satisfying to just let the dart trap do most of the dirty work there. 14:53 Neat area also. Who'd have thought the monsters would be so well-read? They oughta be wearing monocles in this level, and I bet some of the books are secret tomes titled along the lines of "How to Upgrade the Strength of Your Fireballs for Dummies"

Oh Dark Citadel, a lot of people's fav D64 map. Cheesing the blue key with that Invuln seems to be a very reliable strat, it's a very painful room. 6:38 *and that's never a good thing*

Probably my favorite map in the game. It is very long, ominous, and creepy. The music for the level is also awesome and I love the starry, empty sky. Just an all-around creepy but awesome atmosphere.

My favorite official map, without a doubt ! The size, architecture, those fights in the courtyard (i would have throw a Cyberdemon battle here !), the starry sky, the music (Voices in the Blood), large areas and tights corridors, this demon library, great prizes in secret areas... Yep, probably my fav map, with Blood Keep, Dead Simple, Go 2 it and Odyssey of Noises.

If you go to the box of bullets in the library the wall will open up and reveal the baron that you missed on your first run. The couple of boxes of bullets on the other side..

The books are demon related. Helpful horn conditioning techniques, neat tricks you can train your pinkies to do, recipes (hell knights make a zombieman vichyssoise that would melt in your mouth).

Lol, I wonder exactly this. I still look at the shitty bookshelf textures in this game, and the original DMC, and frequently wonder what knowledge is in hells tomes. It puts me in a mystical sort of mood and I love it! I think it holds the history of hells legions, esoteric knowledge, and maybe a ledger of the damned. Possibly inferences to other dimensions and the contents of them. Maybe some anatomy and how best to torture the denizens of Sheol. Probably contains a record of metaphysical knowledge and the correlations between the physical world and how it reconciles to the spirit, as above so below...etc.

Once again I have to say, "Doom 64" is just totally under-rated. This game is an awesome Doom Game. And well, the libary. What books are in there? I would think books of Black magic, Satan, the history of hell, rituals, a lot of different ways to sacrifice humans and worship satan itself. Ancient books of history from unknow regions of hell. Atlases of hell with a lot of different maps, satanic temples and stuff like that I would say. Yeah I have a big fantasy :D

5:38 Probably my favorite secret of the bunch cause of the outside and the walls looks great there! 🙂 My guess is the library there isn't all books. There's also p**n for a very stupid reason hahahahaha......I'm such an ass sometimes! 😂 Definitely do love the UnMaker against Baron's which is always a good thing. It's a good map overall. Can't wait til you get to 'Watch Your Step' map. You got about 4/5 videos to get there. I have a funny personal experience with that one 😆 Keep it up BMD. Have you considered playthroughs/walk-throughs on Heretic, Hexen, and the later DOOMs like DOOM3(I definitely could use help on that one lol)

Demons in this game seem to have a very good and healthy habit of reading! Too bad they ruin it by constantly yelling in the library, that's not good! 2:17 in 99.9% of cases of a Doom 64's Arachnotron vs Baron of Hell 1v1, the Arachnotron will always win, that dual plasma turret is simply insane.

The library was made by the uac for humans. I think that I like doom 64 more than doom 2. Some enemies in doom 2 are better than doom 64 like the imps, caco, lost soul, mancubus.

Messing with OCD is never a good thing. My guess is that some of these books are cook books on how to properly prepare giblets. Sort of like a gib book. 😆
