@@TheOneAndOnlyMasemanFunStuff Yeah. I can tell that was what they were going for. I still prefer 2016’s more gritty and scary designs but Eternal definitely does give off classic DOOM vibes
I think this is definitely true with the revenant. They also act a lot more animated, but you usually do not see them sitting static like that in the game. I am SO GLAD they brought back the classic cyberdemon. Also the new mancubus is better. Doom Eternal feels more like Doom 2 overall. I will never forget playing the earth levels in the original doom 2 and seeing the low-res ruined background texture and feeling chills. If only my 12 year old self could see how stunning and surreal the backdrops are of doom eternal.
I will always prefer the original and Eternal. I like that Eternal went back to the classic designs just with the graphics of today. Blows mind that so many seem to like 2016 more.
Same. 2016 models might be more "realistic" but it didn't feel nearly as "DOOM" as eternal models. Don't even get me started on that god awful 2016 mancubus reimagining
I didn’t realize until now how terrifying the cacodemon and hell knights were in 2016, one not having eyes and the other having no pupil just an eye is scary
The cacodemon from eternal Is Crazy! Like that hyper realistic drawn creepy moments from ren and stimpy..i thing they got more original with 2016 but made the best choice for eternal to go back to the roots
i like the eternal designs more cos of how much more cartoonish they are they look a lot less threatening and considering the doomslayer doesnt feel anywhere near threatened by them it feels like im seeing the world through his eyes
I still wish they gave the HellKnight some kind of horns back. Like a little different from the Baron at least. They are both basically based on mythical Minotaur
Its a matter of taste, but i personally love the Eternal looks more, because they have all the character that the original sprites did 2016 is definitrly trying to fit a more "cohesive" unitifed design, but it takes alot of the charm out, especially on the Soliders, Mancubus, Cyberdemon, ect
The doom eternal models get a bad rap. You guys can’t possibly be saying that in the fast pace action of the game, that the different models are even noticeable let alone meaningfully affect your experience of the game.
Yeah, let's compare previous demon designs with a bunch of pixels from the new trailer... The only demon whose design we clearly saw up close was mancubus'.
I LOVE DOOM. I've played every single game. But all the denons in 2016/Eternal look cute, instead of making me feel uncomfortable or scared. They are all CUTE
Doom classic monsters somewhat looks scary in a psychological way. They look like twisted mutilated deformed humans. My first doom game is The plutonia experiment, I was like 9 years old, the scariest level at that time was MAP11: Hunted.
@MelonieDaniels-mr3qb I say that about resi 4 onwards though 7 brought it back kinda and revelations somewhat...but when it comes to doom and quake just give a run and gun game old school with its puzzles and secrets
Doom 3 was great. Mancubus in that game was amazing, easily the best the series have seen. Imps didn't look the best, but i liked how they used them in that game. One of my favourite games, and while not at initially entertaining or satisfying as the Dooms, it also feels less forgettable. I think i liked it more than eternal. Eternal was a bit of a mess
The second half of Doom 3 it feels so much more like Doom than any of the crap in D16 or Eternal which are just repetitive arena shooters, is just more enjoyable. I actually played D3 a few years ago and was surprised by how much i enjoyed it, in contrast both new Dooms are a chore, the second time i went through D16 to get ready for Eternal i had to force myself to play it because of how boring and repetitive it is.
Les regression, more course correction. Doom 2016 took some of the character designs in a bad direction. Probably the best example being the cyberdemon. The eternal version isn't just better, it's better by leaps and bounds.
They improved all of the designs except for the baron of hell. The 2016 baron is far better looking than eternals with the blades. Why have a baron of hell with blades when you already had the dread knight which has blades? Just my opinion both badass games.
Eternal’s designs are worse than 2016’s as the eternal had a lot more demons per fight than 2016 and needed to perform better. Baron of hell is better tho
Except this is just plain wrong, there's a video that compares closely 2016 and eternal monsters and I think except for the revenant every monster in eternal is way more detailed. Why would they need to make the enemies look worse to make the game perform better when they're adding new gore mechanics for every single enemy to every bullet you fire into them
OoOoO so in Eternal they go for their OLD look but updated. That's cool. 2016 is like "darker". Love them both. Very rare [to me] that a game out does itself within multiple games. Gears of War // DOOM
2016 is easily the best demon design in the series. Eternal went way too cartoonish and a lot of the details feel like they've been flattened or diminished. It's like looking at the difference between Halo 4 and Halo 5...
I love how faithful Doom Eternal is to the original games while expanding on them like crazy. No shade to Doom 2016 but there’s a reason I’ve played significantly more Eternal lol
The cyberdemon got a massive downgrade from 2016 to eternal, but I will say it’s a lot more accurate to the original. 2016’s one is a lot more intimidating.
I hope for Doom the Dark Ages, they go for a more primal look for the demons because the bright colors from Eternal definitely won’t work. 2016 definitely had the better design choices, still baffles me as to why they went an almost cartoon route with Eternal.
Do you think that the mancubus in the new doom dark ages is a combination of the previous mancs like with the more rounder head of the doom 2 mancubus more of demonic technologie and more rotting like 2016 and the doom eternal manc skin tone
Doom Eternal models are still better imo. The game is not THAT serious now, it's more of an original feel Yeah, 2016 models are kinda scarier, but still
If ID still done the classic hell knite i think DOOM would have been more realistic than a bald srong grey armoured human against a imatating horned half human half goat beast
Would be cool to see the comparison with Doom 3 included. It was 11 years after the original Doom and 13 years before Doom 2016, so almost right in the middle. I know people love to hate that game, but I always liked it. It was visually impressive at the time and, although a departure from the arcade nature of the original two Dooms, it was a good game and developed the story/lore.
I like the art style of 2016 better even though Eternal respects the source material better. Everything from the DOOM guy down to the guns. I just like 2016 better, and I don't even play DOOM.
I feel like the actual designs are kind of 50/50, here and there between 2016 and Eternal, but I do very much appreciate how Eternal's demons don't have such over-exaggerated, bouncy, cartoonish idle animations.
The old enemies from the 90s are far more intimidating. These new enemies from 2016 and beyond just dont have it. Completely lost the essence of what makes it doom. They could of followed the old art style more closely. Example: too many rounded edges and surfaces on these new enemies. It makes them look softer and over polished. The hard angles of the metal bar legs of the 90s arachnotron make them much more unsettling. The doom eternal cyber demon definitely looks better than the 2016 cyber demon but still isnt competing with the OG. Its like how the orcs and goblins made with practical effects and prosthetics in lotr look far better than CGI orcs in the hobbit. I am also just not a fan of the overall art style, engine, and graphical style of doom 2016+. It could of been better.
OG Doom and Doom Eternal are both pretty good, but feel cartoony. Doom 2016 is a lot more realistic and gritty, and the models are also more detailed in a lot of respects. I get they likely had to pull back on model detail in Eternal due to performance constraints but there difference’s are there regardless.
